Unanswered Prayer (4th of 4)

My guess is that many of us have seen the same thing. Looking back, our Father in heaven has given us enough daily provisions to show his faithfulness, enough dramatic answers to our prayers to show his ability to respond– and enough “silence” to test our trust.

We’re probably also learning together that God cannot be intimidated or manipulated. He doesn’t seem to be afraid of our anger or overcome by our tears. And maybe even more importantly, he is never as silent as we may think. Even when when we are tempted to think that he must have a heart of stone… he is saying, “Be still and know that I am God” (Ps 46:10).

And when we wonder, “what’s the use”, the one who died for us, urges us always to pray– and not to faint (Luke 18:1).

I’m thinking that our Father may be more honored by our willingness to wait on him, than by our momentary delight with his answers…

One of my favorite scripture I have next to my computer is “Be still and know that I am GOD.’ PS. 46:10. How can anyone say God does not answer prayers? If we will just be still enough to listen to the whisper of HIS voice. What an awesome GOD we serve!

  2. As I am says:

I struggle with unanswered prayer, I sometimes feel that God hears me loud and clear when I pray for others but doesn’t hear me when I pray for myself.
I feel really bad about admitting this somehow I feel that it makes me less Christian.

This is one of the reasons for reading the Psalms. Listen for instance to the 13th Psalm of David who cries, “O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and hear me, O LORD my God; Enlighten my eyes, Lest I sleep the sleep of death; Lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed against him”; Lest those who trouble me rejoice when I am moved. But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.I will sing to the LORD, Because He has dealt bountifully with me.”

This is the kind of honesty and “normal experience” we’ve been talking about in this series of posts on answered prayers.
