Am Wondering and Eye-Q

One of the things I’d like to do with this blog is to think together, not only about the things that are on my mind, but on your’s as well. I’d especially like to come together around ideas that tend to divide us to see if — together– we can find some honest and friendly common ground.

So I thought I’d put up this post as a place to leave a note when you come across something you’d like to see us think about together.

(If this doesn’t interest you- please skip down to the “Eye-Q Test” below)

I’m going to assume that we share a desire to try to look at some of the wonderful, difficult– and sometimes laughable– issues of life through the window and wisdom of the Bible. I can’t promise you that I’ll be able to get to your issue right away. If it doesn’t show up after awhile– it may be safe to conclude that I don’t have a clue about what to say about it…

For now– here’s a fun “IQ test” that you may or may not have seen. I think it’s interesting. See if it works for you:

Eye-IQ Test

Count every ‘ F ‘ in the following text:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE
SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTI
FIC STUDY COMBINED WITH
THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS…

(SEE BELOW)

How many did you find?

………………….3?

Look again…….. There should be 6 .

Read it again !

If you didn’t find 6, go back and try to find the 6 F’s before you scroll down.

The reason you may have missed some is below.

Sometimes the brain doesn’t process ‘OF’.

If that didn’t work, here’s another one I got in one of those viral e-mails (viral –not as in virus)

More Brain Stuff From Cambridge University

I cdnuolt blveiee taht I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was rdanieg.

Amzanig huh? yaeh and I awlyas tghuhot slpeling was ipmorantt! if you can raed tihs psas it on !!

So, am wondering- if that’s the case-if our minds are made so much alike– to miss or to find something so common–what are they made to miss or find when it comes to issues of the heart? Over time, I hope we will continue to discover together what we might not have found alone.

By the way, how would you rate below– the two brain teasers above (smile).

I would like to know about relying on teachers or preachers and people not reading the Word for themselves, when in scriptures there is such revival when God’s Word is read?

I am wondering if it is safe or unwise for mature Christians to link up with a local church even if they are not doctrinally sound on issues not involving salvation (i.e women Pastors, if women should wear pants to church)?
Do you feel that God would lead us into these situations to be “salt and light”, or are these types of congregations to be avoided?

Each person is a unique creation of God. Therefore, one individual will see something that another does not. Because of these differences, how can we be certain of what the Bible says? Does it become only the matter of personal opinion? Your thoughts please, thanks.

OK, I’ll take your challenge to share what I’ve been thinking.
I am a devout Christian. I love Christ and have no doubt that the Bible is the word of God given to man.
I also believe scientist have prooven that the universe is 13.7 billion years old and we evolved from a more primative form of life.
God’s relationship with man apparently started @ 6,000 years ago, give or take a couple thousand years. That is nothing, compared to the billions of years of life before that time.
How can I have these strong, seemingly contradictatory beliefs?
Sure, scientists deal with the material world and Christians deal with God’s relationship with man, but at this point in time they exist simultaneously.
Either scientists have it wrong (which I don’t believe because the scientific method is sound) or God has deceived scientists (which I don’t believe because God does not deceive).
The deceiver (Satan) is not involved here, either, because God is the one that set up the universe the way it is in the first place.
And I am not satisfied with the answer that God will work it all out. It feels like I am missing something crucial that is understandable but I haven’t put it together yet.
Thanks for providing this forum and the encouragement to share niggling thoughts that dangle in our minds.

Two issues that seem to divide more than any others are people’s idea about the kind of music that should be used in worship and people’s viewpoint on the gift of tongues. What do you think about tackling those two? Be careful, your column could burst into flames over the heat that they can cause. On the other hand, a spiritual advance could be made if we could find some common ground.

Good Morning everyone, Mart i must admit i am one of those that the F in of did not connect, also understanding the brain stuff would probably never been understood by me unless you pointed out the importantance of first and last letters.
Concerning the importance of everyone that is a child of God being on common ground, especially those of us being involved in this wonderful blog, taking the space to give my opinion of this topic would not be good, but a couple of things i believe the Holy Spirit has helped me with that are vital to me, one is God says i must live by FAITH, not should, can, or could.
i believe living by faith is done by finding out what God desires for me to do, or to stop doing, and ask the Holy Spirit to accomplish this through me.
Another big thing is a matter of opinion, and i believe every thing in life is a matter of opinion, thereby i have been able to stay on common ground with everyone, even those that are not God’s children, because even though i know most of us believe we are never wrong, i have found i have been wrong, but whether i know i am right or not, i can continue to love the person that i disagree with, and desire the very best for them, and really be concerned, and be able to pray for that person, and not hate them simply because they do not agree with me.
Being able to stay on common ground with everyone i believe is very important for the health, and well being of a person.
I no not believe Anger is a trait of God, nor a way of life for me.
Agape Love will always care for the other person no matter what, and i believe will always keep us on common ground.

The Eye-Q Test was cool! There is nothing that my mind is wondering about right now…maybe because I ‘Know-it-all’…just kidding…but I’m looking forward to some really sumptuous discussions- that will help me to learn more and dig deeper into His word!

Have you ever seen the movie You Me and Dupree? I have thought that I have been “waiting for the mother ship to call” all my life. This week I discovered that the mother ship (our Lord) called me when I was four years old and I have been “blowing out seven types of smoke every since.” For 44 years I have missed the obvious, I have missed the f in of. Great example.
