Smart Dog

When you get a chance I wish you’d watch this brief YouTube clip called “Smart Dog” and then see if it helps to illustrate the following perspective on the Bible. And if you’re wondering whether the dog’s “intelligence” is faked, here’s an in the studio before a live audience angle that is more convincing.

Seems to me that “Smart Dog” illustrates the wonder and joy God wants to share with us when he asks us for “obedience.” When the Old and New Testaments urge us to “obey” God, the first meaning of the original Hebrew and Greek words is often “to listen” or “to give attention to.” For instance, the Hebrew word that frequently shows up as “obey” in English Bibles is translated “hear” in the famous, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!” (Deuteronomy 6:4).

In the New Testament, the Greek word translated “obey” means to be persuaded. According to Vine’s Dictionary, the emphasis is not on submission to authority, but on action resulting from being convinced by reason and truth. Letting ourselves be persuaded by the truth is the idea the author of Hebrews is communicating when he says, “Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls” (Hebrews 13:17).

How could the shift from authority-based thinking affect our response to God? Would it make a difference if, instead of saying, “Obey Me,” Jesus said, “Listen to Me. For your sake, I want your attention. I don’t just want your dutiful compliance. I want you to love Me because I love you.”

What would a life and theology of listening look like? To hear more rather than less of God, what if we asked Him to help us hear more than our moral obligation to Him? What if we stopped talking long enough to hear Him whisper, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). What if, while trying to get His help and favor, we began to listen, really listen, to one another, to our spiritual and political enemies, and even to our own hearts? Would we be more likely to hear Jesus say, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27)?

Even though Jesus has every right to demand our immediate and unqualified obedience, He approaches us gently, appealing not only to our will but to our minds and hearts. In the last chapters of the Bible, He is still saying to His stubborn and distracted family, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20).

In this light could it be helpful to remember that while the YouTube clip might be more accurately labeled “Obedient Dog”  the label “Smart Dog” reminds us of “what’s in it for us” when, in effect, God says, “Be still” and “listen to me.”

I have seen this video before. It is very impressive.Once again I am shamed at my lack of obedience to God when compared to the well trained dog.

I have always imagined that Adam had a dog as his companion before Eve. It would seem that dogs are very connected to man.

Remember seeing several stories about dogs being able to sense an epileptic seizure, as much as 30 minutes before they occure , for their “masters”.

I realy want that kind of closeness with God. To be able to anticipate his thoughts, to be right there hanging on every word. another reminder that I have a long way to go in being what I want to be for my Lord.

Yesterday started off 8 below and reached a high of 2 degrees. This morning it is 20 below zero.

  2. SFDBWV says:

When I was a boy growing up.Before the noise of constant TV or other distractions. I use to watch my dog as all would be quiet. He would suddenly raise up his head and stare out into nothingness and even growl sometimes. I see and hear nothing, but he did.

The old people use to tell me that dogs can see into the spirit world. I don’t know. But they sure can see things I don’t, even danger before it shows up.

  3. Mart De Haan says:

    Good thoughts, Steve,
But the 20 below sounds dangerous. Be careful. It’s snowing here, and has climbed to 4 degrees.

  4. wretch-like-me says:

I have long been impressed with the idea that God wants the ultimate best for us and the ‘rules’ He gives us are not just a list of ‘do this’ or ‘dont do this’ but a secret code to happiness. It’s like having the pass key to a luxury suite of happiness. To put it another way, being ‘filled with the Spirit’ is the best ‘high’ you can experience without the ‘crash’ at the end.

That’s what I look forward to in heaven.

Steve, I have wondered what the initials you log on with stand for… Have you shared that earlier?

Temps are more moderate, here. low-25 hi-31 no new snow

  5. refump says:

I love the explanation of what obey means that you have given. Doesn’t 1 Cor.13 speak to this? We can be doing a lot of the “right things” but if it is not motivated by our love for our Savior & Lord it is nothing. Matt. 7:24-26 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ The relationship that I want with Christ is the one that brings me to obedience out of my love for Him because He first loved me, not because I feel guilty or because it seems to please others or portrays me as a “good person” in the sight of men. I have struggled with obedience my whole Christian life. I have come to the conclusion that I must spend much time with Him in order to come to that point of being His “sheep that hear His voice, and He knows me, and I follow Him”

  6. gr8grannyjacobs says:

In my desire to know more about the Jewish beliefs, I have read many views written by different authors. I also had the opportunity to meet and speak with a Rabbi. We were living in Germany at the time and he was a visiting Rabbi from Israel. There seems to be a consistent pattern in one fundamental belief in which they all ascribe. The way they understand the Ten Commandments. They always use the word hear or listen in place of obey. If you will follow these commandments I have given you it will be good for you.Do these things for I have written them for you to give you abundant life.( I wish I could explain better what I am trying to state, Maybe God will translate for me). Their’s is a gentle approach. Sometimes I think we use the commandments as a weapon to make others conform. I believe God gave them to us out of His love for us. If we like the Dog would listen how much better our lives would be. The Rabbi I got to know a little about truly seemed to understand about God but Jesus being God’s Son was a subject he avoided. I often think of him and how he helped me to see the gentleness in God. I always pray God will open his heart to hear.

  7. poohpity says:

    Mart,

I can see how those definitions are more fitting since it is repeatedly written that God just wants us to want Him more than anything. The rebel in me bristles when obedience is mentioned until I offer my wisdom to my children and they look at me like I do not have a clue. They say let me find out myself when all I want to do is keep them from suffering the consequences of their behavior. So I just go and hit my head against the wall instead of giving my pearls of wisdom, lol.

  8. SFDBWV says:

Wretch-like-me, In answering your question about my sign in name, I will be guilty of a saying I sometimes use when I want to make a point. “It is immediately obvious to the most untrained of observers.”

SFD are my initials and BWV is the town and state where I live.

gr8, I use to listen to Zola Levit. He was a Messianic Jew who still has a ministry. Though he died a few years ago from cancer. I enjoyed listening to his weaving the OT with the NT. Especialy his explanation of the Passover meal.

I also have Volume 1 and 2 “The Holidays of God” from none other than Mart DeHann and Jimmy DeYoung of Discovery House Publishers. They help me understand a great deal about OT traditions.

I especially like the shape of the encampment around the tabernacle being in the shape of a cross as seen from above. During the wilderness wanderings of the Nation of Israel.

All, have you ever noticed how most dogs live only to please their masters? Ever seen that look in a dogs eyes while awaiting a simple pat on the head? Or how quickly they want to make up when given a rebuke?
Yes there is a lot to learn from the love between a dog and it’s master.

  9. poohpity says:

My sign in name is actually my dogs name. Pooh Pity Sing a two year old’s reinvention of Poor Pretty Thing. The more the dog hangs around it’s master it just instinctively knows by signals what to do. My dog responds to hand signals and one word prompts to follow instruction but we have worked together for a few years.

  10. drkennyg says:

yes it is true that I am more likely to respond to “hear” or “listen” than I am to “obey” but God means the same with three sayings “hear, listen, obey”. When I think of listen I am very likely to remember Psalm 46 ” … be still and know that I am God”. When I hear “obey” I think more of a rebuke which is often what’s goin’ on but “hear me” or “listen to me” makes me more in tune with what my Master wants of me.

BTW in Los Angeles it’s in the 70s

  11. mjday11 says:

The nature of a dog seems to be to please his owner. Three years ago, when my wife left us, my son Marty got me a Border Collie pup from the pound. She’s devoted to me – follows me everywhere, waits patiently outside the grocery store while I shop, never gets upset with me or holds a grudge. If anyone is within twenty feet of the house, she is quick to let me know.

One day I fell down the basement stairs. Sitting on the bottom step in pain, she came down, sat next to me and put her paw on my shoulder. No need for words.

On the other hand, she does have her limitations. I learned not to leave her alone for a minute in the kitchen with my ham sandwich.

There must be a lesson I can learn from such a simple example of a dog’s devotion to her master.

  12. ytalk says:

Learning God’s words and His definitions verses mine, is for me, like God turning on lights to the rooms of His Holy Bible. It’s a knew awakening, gift and blessing from Him! I come as a child seeking His teachings, wisdom and will for me. I strive to trust Him, often failing, knowing that He will not abandon me for my weaknesses/failures but make it simpler for me to understand His Love for me.

  13. gr8grannyjacobs says:

SFDBWV I knew you lived in either WVA or VA from a past post. Always wanted to ask you which, but wasn’t doing the blog at that time just reading. I remember that because all my people are from VA or WVA. I was the first born out of country so to speak.(OHIO) I lived in both states on and off thru life.It is so beautiful there. Each vacation I go there to see my siblings. I watched Zola Levitt thru his lifetime. I really enjoyed him. I am also familiar with Holidays of God

ytalk Am glad you joined us again. Come as a child touched my heart.

You all said so beautifully exactly what I was trying to say. God does translate.

  14. poohpity says:

    mjday11,
LOL ! The spiritual implication of the ham sandwich is she has no conscience. lol :) But I bet the lesson is learned unlike me I can not leave pizza or anything within nose reach and still have not learned my lesson. Although mine does have a conscience she hides under the table after my stupidity so I’m bad.

  15. scottn says:

Hey Mart, enjoyed the smart dog and your blog entry. But next time can you include Ephesians 6 : 1 I know my kids would love the video.

  16. infiniti07 says:

God demonstrated His love for us in that Christ died for our sins. The kind of obedience that God desires from us is to know and be persuaded by the truth that God loves us and wants the best for us. In return He wants us to love Him, persuaded by the truth. We recognize this by taking responsibility for our relationship with Him by listening intently. Our relationship with others flourishes when we put their needs first in the relationship.
God created us in his own image and gave us the ability to think and reason for ourselves. How great is God that He as the Creator of the universe meets us at our level and invites us to fellowship with Him!

  17. plumbape says:

Yes, man’s best friend. The reverse spelling of dog is a compelling fact to wonder about also. I watched a man with a seeing eye dog once and thought how wonderful an illustration of Jesus and man. The man is blindly led by the trained dogs eyes but yet the blind man is still the master. The master feeds and waters the servant dog so which one is greater? Seems like an ideal match made in heaven, does it not? Does the dog worry about messing up by going for the masters food the day before or the blind man worry that the dog may not stop him at the red light because the dog disobeyed the day before with the food?
Thanks all for the thoughts and prayer about the father in law. He is resting now waiting for the rest of the family to come home for the new world celebration.

  18. poohpity says:

    infiniti07,
That one sentence, “Our relationship with others flourishes when we put their needs first in the relationship”. Can you imagine what a world would be like if we did that not just the world but just one relationship at a time. In a self serve world choosing to other serve. Wow! :)

    plumbape,

Glad all went well with your father-n-law’s home going. Sure did miss you. :)

  19. daisymarygoldr says:

Cool video and smart dog indeed! He not only “listened” but “faithfully” “followed” and “obeyed” His master’s instructions… Jesus says “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it…” (Luke 6:46-47)

Personally, for me listening to God’s word is not very difficult. Doing what He is asking me to do is tough….especially if it is against my intuition or defies all my logical reasoning or if it meant doing something I did not like. Whenever I disobeyed or tried to run away…like Jonah… the consequence…was anything but fun:( and His love… was not gentle! So, at this point of my life, I have learned my lessons well…to always listen and obey….even if He slays me, yet I will trust Him and obey… though my human heart will always struggle to rebel, but His love compels me to obey

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says…”(James 1:22)

  20. poohpity says:

When a dog has a brutal master it either tucks it’s tail between it’s legs or is prone to turn around and bite anyone it comes in contact with. On the other hand a gentle master wins the trust and love of the animal. The animal learns it will be taken care and then is lead easily and is more likely to follow out of love and not fear. When my dog is taught a new trick we use repetition and reward and she learns very quickly and wants to learn more when we use fear she puts her tail between her legs and hides. I wonder if that isn’t also how we learn.

  21. sitsathisfeet says:

From the song I will trust and obey, for there is no other way. I knew there was a reason we always sing those songs!

  22. gr8grannyjacobs says:

A gentle father. The greatest compliment a child can give. It doesn’t mean he didn’t teach me to obey, it doesn’t mean he let my wrongs go unpunished. He was steadfast and taught me the way I should go. He corrected and was always forgiving. That is the way I see my heavenly Father except He is perfect in His steadfastness and gentleness in ways the best earthly father can never be. The same application can be made to a puppy, a gentle steadfast master will have a more obedient puppy because the puppy responds to his masters love and gentleness, while still being firm in his expectations.

  24. rokdude5 says:

A close friend of mine paid me a great compliment – He said that I remind him of Peanuts’ Snoopy.

Though I do have my ugly moments, I know that our Master knows whats best for us. It isnt easy hearing and heeding to “No…for I have something better in mind.” This is difficult for me when I realized “the something better” will benefit someone else instead of me like a promotion.

It still boggles my mind and my heart that though Jesus asked for the cup to be passed, He obeyed His Father and took a “demotion” so the rest of us can be promoted.

  25. poohpity says:

    Watch our Cardinals fly!!:)

  26. kaliko88 says:

Thank you for the good laugh and the intriguing lesson. I’d never heard those definitions of ‘obey’. I’m going to have to think on those for a while.

  27. plumbape says:

I’m going for the Cardinals to since the Colts are out. They look good!!

CAT SAYS: OH, HOW GOOD HE/SHE IS WITH ME, I MUST BE A GOD…
IF WE ARE CATS, WE WON’T OBEY GOD, HE WONT NEVER BE OUR LORD.
OR, ISN’T TRUE THAT BY THE MORNING WE MAY SAY…OH, IT IS TOO EARLY TO READ… LATTER… (AND LATTER)OH IT IS TOO LATE TO READ, BETTER WHEN I CAME BACK…(AT NIGHT)OH, IT IS TOO LATE AND I’M TIRED MAYBE….(YAWN)..ZZZZ

OK, IF WE ARE READING HERE, IT’S BECAUSE WE CARE, BUT, WE KNOW CATS, AND SO WE CAN BE CATS AGAIN, THINKING WE ARE OUR OWN, FEELING LIKE GODS…

  30. gr8grannyjacobs says:

Father, I see from the text before me today that You want me to implore people to come to You, not intimidate them. Make me a firm but loving witness – one who can disagree without being disagreeable. In Christ’s Name I ask it. Amen.

Someone sent this to me today via e-mail. Thought I would share.

pooh Happy for your cardnials :)

  33. SFDBWV says:

soloyo, I loved your comments about the differences between dogs and cats, Very Very true!!! Also I am glad it is warmer were you are than here in the mountains of West Virginia.

“IF” I were a football fan I would be rooting for the Steelers. But I haven’t had much intrest for a long time. I guess the era of the Steel Curtain and Terry Bradshaw was when I was a fan. We get Pittsburg TV here so they are kinda like a local team. Pittsburg is about 2 hours away.

Lotta good coal miners Peg, I’m glad to hear one of us made good.

  34. soloyo says:

OH THANK ‘U PLUMBAPE, JUST AFTER I LEFT BLOG, I WENT TO WATCH TV, ON TIME TO SEE STEELERS WINING! SINCE I WAS 13 YO WHEN THEY WERE WOW! THEY ARE STILL MY WOW! SO, I WAS JUMPING AND JUMPING ALONE IN MY BEDROOM…YES YES YES!
UPS! PLEASE DON’T SAY ANYTHING TO MY FRIEND POOH…SHE’S WITH CARDINALS ISN’T IT? X)

YESTARDAY WE WENT TO CHURCH AND HEAR ABOUT TO OBEY GOD, OBOUT WHO GOD PUT IN FRONT TO TELL US HIS WORDS, AND HE, MY PASTOR, TOLD US HIS SECRET: II TIMOTHY 3:16-17. THAT’S WHAY, HE SAID, I CAN ADVISE YOU WHEN YOU COME FOR, ITS NOT BECAUSE I HAVE A CRYSTAL BALL AT HOME, IT’S ‘CAUSE I KEEP HIS WORD AND WHEN YOU’RE TALKING I PRAY GOD FOR WISDOM AND HE BRIGS TO MY MIND THAT WHAT IS ALREADY MEMORIZED. SO THAT, WHO KEEPS GOD’S WORD IS WHO REALLY LOVES HIM, AND SO, WE ARE STARTING TO OBEY WHEN WE MEMO. I BEG GOD ALL OF US MEMO TODAY, PLEASE SHARE ONE VERSE BY MEMORY AT LEAST EACH DAY, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

  35. soloyo says:

THERE, WHEN YOU READ OBOUT, MUST READ ABOUT. HE HE, WELL SORRY ME IT IS NOT MY NATAL LANGUAGE, AND SO MY FINGERS ARE COLD…

  36. poohpity says:

Oh yes, I am for the Cardinals and they are going fly over the Steelers. My prayer is for each team to play their best and for the best team to win.

Today is MLK day so I hope everyone has a dream and I hope it comes true by peaceful means. Mr. King wanted their to be a united people for America just as Christ wants a united people for His Kingdom. So we all can cheer for the same team on that one.

  37. SFDBWV says:

Well said Deborah. I am the most guilty of being a dreamer. It has caused me a lot of frustration. But I would rather dream and hope than to become bitter and cold.

I still look for the best in people, and though sometimes disapointed I am also sometimes rewarded.

I often wonder how it will be when our eyes and hearts are finally opened and we are able to one in Christ the way we want to be. Will we still have those little independent streaks or will we be more patient?

I want so many things. I want to see sickness gone and no more crippled people. All made whole again. I want to see love rule everyones heart. No more broken hearts.

I guess if I am going to dare to dream I may as well dream big.

  38. daisymarygoldr says:

poohpity, praying for your hip-surgery on Tuesday…you are one brave one and I am sure God will gently see you through this one too! …and you are right, the dog tucks it’s tail between it’s legs or is prone to turn around and bite or hides when we use fear.

The feel of God’s disciplining rod that I experienced for the first time ever, was as a 13-yr-old… must admit that it stunned me into shocking silence! Was too young to react with anger or retaliate with aggression…and there was no bitterness against Him or the others. Was old enough to “know” that my Heavenly Master is not brutal…He is both severe and tender (Lam 3:32) “True, He wounds, but He also dresses the wound; the same hand that hurts you, heals you.” Job 5:17 So, I realized my wrong and readily repented for my willful disobedience.

His training rod taught me to fear the living God…not the suspicious, cringing kind of unhealthy fear… to run and hide from Him…but the fear of the Lord which is the beginning of understanding, knowledge and wisdom…to understand life and its meaninglessness without God!

Now, it’s a whole different story…I desire for Him to correct and rebuke and scold and chastise…so I may run the race with discipline and achieve the ultimate reward!

“So don’t feel sorry for yourselves…At the time, discipline isn’t much fun. It always feels like it’s going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it’s the “well-trained” who find themselves mature in their relationship with God.” Hebrews 12: 4-11

  39. gr8grannyjacobs says:

Proverbs 9:10 My life verse. I knew a young man once who had great trouble with the word fear in the Bible. Then one day a wise man told him to replace the word love for fear each time he read it in the Bible. The wise man knew that as the young man grew in the knowledge of the Lord he himself would begin to understand the word fear when used in reference to our Lord.Love always wins for God is Love.

  40. daisymarygoldr says:

“…It’s the child He loves that He disciplines; the child He embraces, He also corrects…”

“gr8grannyjacobs,My dear child:) don’t shrug off God’s discipline,… don’t be crushed by it either. Or have you forgotten how good parents treat children, and that God regards you as his children? God is educating you; that’s why you must never drop out. He’s treating you as dear children. This trouble you’re in isn’t punishment; it’s training, the normal experience of children. Only irresponsible parents leave children to fend for themselves. Would you prefer an irresponsible God? We respect our own parents for training and not spoiling us, so why not embrace God’s training so we can truly live? While we were children, our parents did what seemed best to them. But God is doing what is best for us, training us to live God’s holy best.”

  41. gr8grannyjacobs says:

daisy I agree with you. I am just saying that just like a child with it’s parents the love came first. If you paddle a child and have no love for that child what will the child learn? Love then discipline must be the way it all works.I am not shrugging off God’s discipline as I have experienced that discipline myself. I also know God loved me through it all. Anyway isn’t that exactly what I said in the other blog that remorse is God’s way of showing us His discipline? We would have no remorse if we didn’t realize we were out of God’s will. Of course you have to have a heart for God to have Godly remorse or like you said, one would respond like Judas did. Love you daisy

  42. gr8grannyjacobs says:

pooh, You are in my prayers always. Have asked the Lord to bless you with a special touch of His presence. You know what I mean, one of those awesome encounters we have with God. About your Cardinals. For you I hope they win but I would sure enjoy Pittsburgh getting another ring. I am a fan from the Bradshaw era.

  43. sitsathisfeet says:

Read ODB today and was thinking about our blog and MLK. It came to mind blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the sons of God. Was also thinking about our new president and how we need to pray for him, whether our political persuasion is for him or not. We must pray for our nation… If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2Chron. 7:14-15) So really it all starts with us, in obedience.

  44. gr8grannyjacobs says:

Sitsathisfeet, A fairly well known preacher quoted that very verse on television. I was so happy to hear our nation being called to repent and very hurt when he was highly condemned. The sad part was the condemnation came from the professed Christians as much as from nonbelievers .I agree that should be our prayer out of our love for our Lord displayed in an act of obedience.

    SOLOYO:
Your contrast between dogs and cats is both humorous and revealing… much appreciated. May I request your indulgence. I look forward to your posts; however, It is difficult for me to read them because of the upper case letters. Can you forgive my weakness and use lower case, por favor? PS. I will be cruising the West Coast of Mexico next month and look forward to experiencing your warmer climate.

    Pooh:
Will continue to remember you in surgery tomorrow. May His angels greet and comfort you as you sleep thru the procedure. I pray for the Doctors and Nurses that will attend to you, as well. May your time in hospital be a powerful witness to those around you. God bless you with power to bring Joy and Hope to others because of your presence in recovery!

    Final thought:
I am learning to obey. I am happiest when that comes easy and clearly. I confess that my ‘strong will’ is most times a hindrance and usually my greatest fault. My prayer to See God More Clearly…To Love Him More Dearly… To Follow Him More Nearly…(Music echoes in my head)… Day by Day by Day by Day!

  46. poohpity says:

Thank you for the prayers. I am feeling a little fear because of past mistakes doctors have made on my legs but we have the Great Physician to care for us and I am clinging to Him.

I believe God gentle corrects us because we serve the consequences of our behavior which all in it’s self is hard and then restores us to Himself. We tend to look at God through the experiences of our earthly fathers and sometimes their behavior was to severe and distant. An earthly experience with a father like us they do not understand the future and what would benefit each person for nurturing and growth like God does. Only He knows about each hair on our heads and I do not believe He has in mind to break us I think He does more of a shaping into the likeness of Christ.

  47. gr8grannyjacobs says:

wretch-like-me Thank you and I agree. I knew there was comfort in His rod so His rod has to be filled with love:) I am so glad you showed me and daisy that verse.

gr8grannyjacobs, yes, you are absolutely right…love always has to come first….we love Him because He first loved us! Which parent will not have love for their child of their womb? If parents truly loved their children… like Christ loved, will they rip their children and tear them apart… to satisfy their selfish infidelity? If parents genuinely loved their children will they abandon the ship with their children in it, to pursue their lustful indulgence in adulterous affairs? If parents really loved their children will they spare the paddle to deliver them to the destruction of pre-marital sex, sexually-transmitted diseases, drugs, alcohol, gang or criminal activity? Which sincerely loving parent will have a peaceful night’s sleep while their children are languishing in jails for the rest of their lives? gr8grannyjacobs, if you have experienced God’s love through His discipline, you will also teach others to love what He loves and hate what He hates…He hates anything that destroys His loving children….and His love will go to any extent to protect His children from eternal destruction. With much respect I Love you too…

wretch-like-me, the 23rd Psalm is my own life-story…

poohpity, you are also always right, His loving hands break… not to destroy… but to shape and build!

Daisy, You have no idea how much I have thought about our conversations:) I can’t find anywhere in the Bible that God did not act in love toward those who loved Him. Even David knew God’s wrath or punishment would be just. 2 Samuel 24 You do keep me in a deeper study of God’s word. This is a good thing. I never want to think I know all the answers. I don’t even know all the questions.

  51. poohpity says:

    DMG,

I do not feel broken by the Lord. The brokenness comes from a life living in the world. I do not want anyone to break me I have already been broken I need to be healed.

  52. pegramsdell says:

Jesus came to heal. Physically and Spiritually.
“By His wounds we are healed”. Also, He died on the cross to heal our brokenness from Our Father by our sin.
Jesus is our Healer. He mends our bodies and our hearts. He knows what we are going through and He understands.
He’s been there and done that. And He is still doing it in us right now. In the Name of Jesus our Lord, I declare that you are healed Deborah. And also, that you will have peace in your heart and mind.

  53. daisymarygoldr says:

Gr8grannyjacobs, just like you my conversations with you are also on my mind 24/7:) The only human being that I was closest to… in my entire life so far was my own granny….last Friday, the 16th was her death anniversary…it was really hard for me…she was a gr8 woman of God and is resting in a better place… but I do miss her terribly…she knew all the answers… and so, I think you also know all the answers….otherwise you wouldn’t be a gr8granny:)

“I can’t find anywhere in the Bible that God did not act in love toward those who loved Him.”- didn’t get that…not sure if I said that…sorry, if my comment was not clear…

  54. daisymarygoldr says:

poohpity, to me your posts and thoughts reflect healing…because you are precious in His sight…as gr8grannyjacobs always assures you…all you have to do is accept His healing by faith to live a healed life! And as for me…I’ve been broken by the Lord…and do anticipate more of His breaking…to be used by Him…that brokenness, therefore is a blessing for me!

The world teaches us that brokenness is bad but God has a different take on brokenness. Here is something to think about…
    a broken and contrite spirit,
Soil is broken before it is sown
Christ’s body which is broken for us.
Frankincense is broken, crushed and burned
    Broken bottle of Frankincense

  55. poohpity says:

Christ’s body was not broken or it would have not fulfilled the prophesy about it. The point I was trying to make got lost somewhere so I will just let it stay there. There is nothing wrong with being broken but it is not God who does it.

  56. daisymarygoldr says:

poohpity, you are right, His bones were not broken…guess it refers to the nail piercing wounds and bruises that broke His flesh and bled Him to death “…Jesus, on the night of His betrayal, took bread. Having given thanks, He broke it and said, This is my body, broken for you…” (1 Cor 11:25). Never mind the point:)… take care and you are in my prayers.

  57. poohpity says:

1 Cor 11:23-25; 23For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

  58. daisymarygoldr says:

poohpity, Its KJV only! no, just kidding:)…hope everything went well with your surgery… love n’ prayers…

We live in the mountains of S. Colorado with our three dogs, whom are rescue dogs. In the winter we have lots of together time and closeness with out dogs in our small cabin. It seems to me that our dogs are social animals much like people were intended to be. They are far more in tune with their natural selves and people have evolved above that which may not be a good thing. They forgive quickly and let it go which is what we are expected to do. It seems to me that they obey out of love and respect which is how we should be in our relationship with the Lord. They are attuned to our every emotion and feeling and they watch us very closely. That is also how we should be with the Lord. They love us unconditionally and that is what we are called do with others and the Lord. Seems to me that they are wiser and smarter than people are in many respects. That does make them smart in my opinion and they seem to be put here to help us see more of how we should be. Our dogs are a true blessing to us and I thank the Lord for their presence in our lives and the many lessons they teach each day. I don’t think the Lord wants us to be so busy with “things” that we fail to commune with him and learn from his creation. Dogs put into action what we know down deep within ourselves and should apply in our own lives. We have as humans a responsibility to our dogs but a far greater one to our Lord who entrusted them to us.
