The Variety of Nature and Spirituality

Maybe the variety of nature can help us laugh at ourselves, and grow in our appreciation for one another… while still taking life seriously.

Scientists estimate that the number of species on earth ranges somewhere between 5 and 30 million, with about 8 million different kinds of bugs.

Could there be a parallel between what our God has done in the wonder of creation, and the countless individual expressions of his workmanship in us (Eph 2:10)?

Look at how different we all are. Consider the way his word filters through each of our lives like sunlight through a prism. Then look at the countless ways each of us attempts to apply something as basic as the principle of love to the individual circumstances and relationships of our lives.

On one hand we might think that we know what such love looks like. After all, the Apostle Paul tells us. He says that the love of God is patient and kind, while not being jealous, boastful, or proud. In addition he writes that this love never loses faith, never demands its way, and never gives up (1Cor 13 NLT).

But knowing these marks of love does not tell us what they will end up looking like when passed through the personality of our own lives. So much of living by the wisdom of the Bible involves judging for ourselves how to apply the timeless, unchanging principles of God.

Even though the Scriptures call us all of us to the same virtues, nowhere do we have a picture of what loving patience, hope, and kindness are to look like in any given situation.

For example, after being hurt by another, we might intuitively sense what a Christ-like response would be and act on it– or we may consciously weigh the options before us. The choices of application can multiply. We may find ourselves weighing whether loving patience will wait and do nothing, ignore the wrong, gently confront, or creatively look for a way to return good for evil? There’s no way to avoid using our own judgment as we in turn trust the Lord to help us.

Regardless of the process, it is difficult if not impossible to avoid the messy, sometimes humorous, sometimes heartbreaking ways in which we each try to determine what love and patience look and sound like in our ever-changing, individual, and shared experiences.

If our ability to “be right” wasn’t so secure in Christ, seems to me that the call to love God, and one another, would be so daunting… that we’d be far less able to laugh at ourselves… and with one another… while reflecting on the many ways we all “see through a glass darkly”– not only the future– but ourselves and one another as well.

What does love and patience look like in my life? The mirror image of myself is that most of the time I fail to be the person I want to be.
These past 10 years have shown me an entire new level of patience. One that isn’t finished in me. I am challanged daily to find a way to be more patient with people. And yes to be patient with God.
Whereas people can exersize the limits of my patience, the biggest and most difficult exercize of waiting comes in waiting for God to deliver on His promises. To a point of anger at times.
Humor is a big distraction for us, we use it all day long. Sometimes in the midst of extreamly unpleasent circumstances, all we can do is laugh together. And cry alone.
One thing I have learned at observing creatures is that they are good at being what they are.
We sometimes try to be too many different things and not very good at any of them.

I think you’re right, Mart! The sense of secured salvation does enable us to look back and laugh at ourselves. I’m betting that it is safe to assume most of us grew up with a close enough friend who risked getting into trouble along side us as we discovered life. I’m even more certain that each friend in every pair had on more than one occasion suggested something that both friends, later, mutually agreed on the outright stupidity of. There was a certain bond of comfortability about being yourself which you shared with this person.
I think what we often forget is that we all have this companionship with God. This is also a constant companionship as stated in Provebs 18:24, ” A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” I know that I often fail to see my friend when I am struggling for independence; however, at some point, I need to realize that he is also agonizing with me every step of the way when I make a wrong decision and must, afterward, reap what I’ve sown.
I can remember how less embarassing it was to tell my parents that I didn’t know why I did what I did instead of explaining the whole stupid thought process I went through. With God, I can be confident that he is aware of my rationalization. He is easy to see when the issue is cut and dried, yet, I need to squint in order to find him when it comes to letting go of things that are not beneficial to me and, in fact, prohibit me from asserting my independence!

In continuing with the title of todays Topic, yes Birds of a feather do flock together. For safety and family.

We come together here because we all profess a love for Christ and are sharing ourselves with each other in that walk and growth with God. Which gives us common ground to stand on. However…

We are also very different and see and understand at varying degrees. Which makes us as diverse as all of the species around us.

When I blog here, I try to share my lifes struggles and victories with Christ as my way of showing Christ at work in me. A living testimony to God and His patience with me.

I find myself tested many times, here, by an attitude I will only describe as a personality clash. So how do I deal with it? Ignore it, attempt to correct it, fight back? So I go to Christ for the answer. It would seem he used all three answers at various times.

Love first, and in trying to comply with the Holy Spirit’s teaching found in 1 Corinthians 13. I always find myself silenced in any responce to being attacked personaly here on this blog.

I know I am not God and that there is a lot I have to learn about Christ and what he wants of me. So I will try to be like the somg bird and sing his praises after the storm and not be like the peacock and strut around showing off it’s colors.

As for the personality clash that seems to be a persistent thorn in my side. I will quote Julius Caesar.” Even a wolf must suffer his fleas.”

A once popular song came to mind as I read your post today,I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner .I was not part of that era of music but heard that song one day just recently as I was trying to tune in my ipod. The words so caught my attention as they were words I had said to God in prayer. I came home and of course looked on you tube to see who sang the song. I have many times asked God to show me what love is by His definition and how to show love to others in the way that would most honor Him. I want to know God in such an intimate way as to have full understanding of what love and patience’s look like and sound like in His eyes. The wonder of creation for me is in all of God’s creations and so am thinking there may well be a parallel.

Steve There is great comfort in knowing one day our love for God and each other will be perfected. Our sharing of our experiences are for me a great way of sharing God’s love working in each of us individually .I so enjoy your testimonies

daisy ,We live in a part of Texas where the only plant life we have are Cedar trees and Scrub Oak trees. There is beauty to be found in them but I so miss the beauty of God’s other creation’s I have been exposed to in my journey of life. Each Spring we are so blessed here as the Blue Bonnets bloom and the whole landscape comes alive with these beautiful blue flowers. Each year we take our grandchildren and now great grandchildren to play and to take pictures of this once a year wonder of God’s creation. We don’t worship the flowers but are thankful that God puts this beauty here for us every year. The Blue Bonnets are a wonderful opportunity to open dialogue with others about the Creator. In the end isn’t that what it is all about using the tools God gives us to enable us to share His Word?

  6. SFDBWV says:

Thank you gr8, I love that song, and sing at it many times. One lil story before I have to go… I was tieing Matts shoes one afternoon before leaving for a trip. I as I often do was singing as I worked. Matt patted me on top my head and said to Glenna, “I think it’s nice dad thinks he can sing.”

So it’s one of my hopes that when God perfects our love he also perfects my singing.

    Steve

  7. Mart De Haan says:

You gave us a smile Steve. Hope we can do the same many times over for you and others.

  8. poohpity says:

I know one thing we will always have struggles but gosh it sure is nice to share those struggles with someone who will listen and not try and fix. My mom always has something to tell me that I need to change or fix and she attributes these lessons to her being the fourth person of the trinity. I really get mad then I think of how gently the Lord changes us and ask Him for patience with her because I will never be able to get her to understand how that behavior pushes me away. I do not like to be around people who always have a pat answer, I do enjoy however sharing struggles in an environment where I feel others are struggling to and realizing that we are all in the process of becoming like our Savior. Those processes are different for each individual but we have the same goal in mind.

Thinking that one may know how to get there better than another is a pride issue because we are all cut from a different mold and only God knows how each individual needs to be taught. Just like in nature each animal or plant or bug God knows what each one needs to thrive when we step in there to do what we think is best it usually messes things up.

I think we have sort of lost our reliance on the God alone concept and think we know better. Nothing new that has been around since the beginning. Oh no there it is again the broken DVD concept. :)

Today for the first time on this blog I am thinking of saying nothing about the subject of “birds, species and spirituality”… because what I wanted to share is very different from what the others have said. Steve, you are so right “Birds of a feather flock together”- they sing and speak alike and sadly, I happen to have different feathers. Sorry, if my words made you feel like being personally attacked. It was unintentional. Your words “showing disrespect to the creator” were sensed as a personal attack by me. Yes, we all do have different personalities…you get silenced and I do just the opposite:)…but by now you should know this…that I have nothing but love and respect for you and your comments. rdrcomp, if you really “love variety and the kingdom should show enough “spice of life” then you should not pick on others who may not be the same flavor as you. (aside: this is not to accuse… but to let you know with utmost love and respect that I have for you- in the previous blog, you started it all). gr8grannyjacobs, your grand and gr8grand kids must be rising up every morning to call you blessed. Yes, there is beauty to be found in God’s creation. Gardening is my passionate hobby. And to unwind after a long weeks work, I also love going places during the weekends to see different landscapes- their flora and fauna. However, I must tell you that… one glimpse of what lies beyond the physical is nothing compared to what we see here now. This is merely the shadow but that is the real. It cannot be described in human words as it completely blows our minds away! It is my sincere prayer that someday we’ll all be able to sit together with “oneness of mind” i.e. the mind of Christ… to enjoy the matchless beauty of that which is perfect and real!
    dep7547, Welcome back!
Mart and friends, honestly I don’t know where I went wrong with my words. Admit that one of my posts may have appeared as sarcastic but I was smiling all the time while writing those words. Would love to get a critical feedback with specific pointers…so I do not repeat the same mistakes again. If not, I’ll understand that I am not exactly first-class blog material:( you are all simply great and it was a wonderful experience interacting with you on the “Been thinking about blog”. Thank You!

  10. BruceC says:

I struggle through life daily; trying to be “perfected” in love and fall short very often. Sometimes I find myself short-tempered and less patient than I know the Lord would have me. But I won’t give up and with His help I will grow. The love we show can be expressed in many different ways; and sometimes wrongly. My MIL loves my wife’s sister as a Mom should; but she has spoiled her rotten and at almost fifty all she needs to do is whine the right way and Mom opens the purse. Sadly her children are learning this and the quasi-ex-husband is literally off the hook and free as a bird. Someday when Mom is no longer here she will be in for a rude awakening as the rest of the family will not fork over money to her. As far as others in the family the treatment is nowhere near the same. I think the love she shows is twisted out of balance. We love my wife’s sister and pray for her; but most of the time she gets “tough” love otherwise it would be an approval of her lifestyle. Love can be separated from accepting what is wrong. The love you would show(compassionate) for a sick person or one down on their is different than than the love of committment for a wife or child. Yes, love has many faces and many ways to be expressed. We can love a person but at the same time not love what they do. And just trying to do that can be a test of growth in patience!

  11. poohpity says:

I know for one that I blog in response to the post by Mart. I find somethings that others post as critical and unfeeling but that again is up to the Lord to point out that behavior to whoever that is. It seems that some also love being put into the victim role and then again it is for the Lord to show that to them.

I enjoy the thoughts that are given to us from Mart to think about. I do not hold Mart on a pedestal but do enjoy seeing the love of the Lord in his comments and thoughts. I also enjoy seeing so many men especially those who have been in the military have such a desire to be Christ like.

I am not at war against any of my fellow believers but at times I do feel the need to confront a thought that doesn’t go along with what the bible teaches. I hope to never put down a person for being themselves even if I do not agree with them. Since I first read this Been Thinking About I have so enjoyed the articles that have been written and find them to bring Glory to God even when our posts sometimes do not bring Glory to Him. I have to delete a lot of the things I really think because it is just not appropriate to say them and I do not want to cause harm in anyone because I know the harm that is caused by words.

It is nice to share our life stories and experiences here on the blog. Sometimes advice is given and appreciated and sometimes just having someone to listen to you is even more appreciated. We all have very similar problems….expecially being born again….nothing Jesus Himself has not experienced. It’s nice to know though that I am not alone. I read todays blog responses and I hear myself. I feel the same way. I’m so glad you all have spoken today. thanks

  13. daisymarygoldr says:

rdrcomp, whether its here or in the wonder of creation blog, I, really do appreciate and enjoy reading all your posts. Your thoughts always reflect a good, healthy and loving heart of Christ. You are right- speaking “Christianese” (BTW, learned this term here at RBC) does not mean Spiritual rather it means speaking the language of Christ’s love. True, the love of Christ never gives up but today it is putting me under intense pressure to let go and yield. Sorry, if my comments made you feel different or wrong:(

  14. gr8grannyjacobs says:

daisy I don’t know if this will make it on to the blog as it is kind of off subject. We’ll see. I was so overwhelmed with love for you today as I read your post. I saw such a sensitivity in your words and so want to share that with you. See sometimes it’s hard to see the smile in words but somehow I can see you grinning from ear to ear as you posted. It was wonderful to hear you admit that you do smile. Two smiles today you and Steve.

The very first time I left a Blog on this site was on the topic: “Israel’s Sh’ma and Monotheism”

after reading through the blogs I posted mine, and ended with this remark:

    Romans838 Says:
..My point of writing all this is that God desires for us to be one with him… and not arguing about trinity… for me… its no longer trinity cos there was always a reserved space for man from the beginning.

then I saw this message from Laurielee:

    Laurielee Says:
…Romans838 :) (LOVE that one!) I guess I didn’t think about the dialogue here as ‘arguing’, but ‘reasoning together’. “As iron sharpens iron”…

honestly after reading his/here comment I had to go back to read all the blogs over again this time more slowly… and I found out that Laurielee was 100% right… and he/she was able to correct my opinion in a loving way and I took it without even saying thnk u. thanks laurielee.

I come here every time to learn and reflect… from Marts experince, and every other person’s experiences in their unique way of expressing themselves while sharing my own view and exprience in the best way I can.

today’s topic is very interesting the “variety of nature and spirituality” God made us different… he had a reason for doing so. And I believe by being untque life is made more beautiful(Variety is the spice of Life).

so if everyone here blogs alike what is there to learn? if everyone has the same experience whats there to share?
if everyone is here is just the same in every way I believe even God will be bored of looking at us :) and we we should remember as we express ourselves in our uniqueness, The Love of God should be our motivating factor.

we should remember that despite our varying nature and spirituality, every christian is one and the same at the very core that is we have Christ There.

I will leave with Ephesians 4:1-7(NLT):

1 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. 4 For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. 5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 and one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all.
7 However, he has given each one of us a special gift[a] through the generosity of Christ.

  16. Mart De Haan says:

Once again I find your thoughtfulness toward one another such a good example of how to work through the bumps that are so unavoidable in any honest relationship. Thanks for modeling together what I tried so poorly to express early this morning. Have tried several times to rewrite the original post…

  17. daisymarygoldr says:

    gr8grannyjacobs, you are such a love-ly blessing:)

Mart, at times like this I really feel sorry for you- when as the author of this blog you are placed in one such an unpredictable, awkward predicament… to pacify your bickering guests and restore peace and normalcy within the group. I think your initial piece was just as good as the several rewrites with additional pictures:) They effectively communicate the message of fostering the love of Christ to maintain “oneness” within the body… regardless of the variety. I know how difficult it is to handle these delicate issues with utmost care. You have modeled with wisdom by allowing the Holy Spirit to move through you and all of us who then helped us work through the bumps. What a spiritual lesson- Thank you!

  18. sjd says:

I find it funny at times how I am before I push the key that sends my comments off. Sometimes it feels like I am back as a teenager making that first phone call to a girl I am sure will probably say no to me. After pushing the key I sometimes think I should have just remained silent. Yet, as I sense in others, there is a desire that comes only from God Himself, that draws you and I into conversations that are meant to spur one another on to love and good deeds. Good deeds that will glorify our Father in Heaven. I am very thankful for each of you, as God is using you in my life. I pray that each will continue to be available to what Christ wants to say and do through you. As we are available to Him, I believe that our expression of love will become more alike as Christ is the One that is seen. Sure, there will still be the variety of our personalities, but the overwhelming remembrance will be that of our Lord.

Years ago one of my professors spoke on a particular movement within “Christianity”. It was a movement that was not popular with who he was speaking to. I was very impressed and moved by his loving treatment of this movement. His main points spoke of what we could learn of God and our experience of Him from this “different” denomination. What might we be missing in our living this life of faith? This had a major impact on my thinking. I now fellowship in a “nondenominational” Church and we are attempting to worship together agreeing on the foundations of our faith in Christ alone, by faith alone, by grace alone, yet willing to differ on less “foundational” points.

Sometimes I wish we all believed exactly the same, because there are many times that it can become very strained as some of my convictions and others can be so different. But I have found more and more through the years that in our differences we can grow so together in our love for the Lord, as we seek Him together in the Word. I am finding that the unity that we have been given in Christ needs to be preserved, not attempted to gain.(Ephesians 4:3) I so value the unity that we have in Christ on this blog site, and each of your contributions to this blog! That is the truth. Sure, sometimes I may not agree with all that is said, but there may be times(correction-there are times) when my thoughts need to be taken captive, and reformed.

    Ephesians 4:1-6 (NASB95)
1 Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,
2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love,
3 being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
    4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.

“If our ability to “be right”….”
    Your story saddens my Heart,
It appears that for the vast majority of those of us who desire to be His disciples, the miracle of His gospel has been lost.
Replaced by a works based, earned through consecration, reward theology. Read my Bible, devote my mornings, modify my behavior, mange my sin and over time, little by little, so long as I stay in the process, God will give me what I need to be HIs friend.
Jesus does not offers us “abilities”, He offers transformation.
Through our absolute surrender and death to our “selfs” He conforms us into His Image.
We cannot love so long as we are controlled by a sinful nature. Death to sin and the impartation of His righteousness through the filling of the Spirit of Christ renews our minds and gives us the Heart of Christ from which flows the very love of God.
This is an act of God not the process of christian development. We cannot learn enough or strive enough to gain this, it is the narrow road to Life that few find but all long for.
I am thankful for this ministry.
    Carry on.

  22. dep7547 says:

sjd, you left with much to think about! I’m guessing that is the main idea here. I have the same reaction sometimes when I submit comments. That is why I like to just check out what is being discussed every couple of days. I’m not an expert on many of the topics, but that does not mean I don’t have an opinion to express on them.
I do not believe that God intended us to be clones of himself (themselves) but for each of us to share a common access to him in our own, unique routes. As each person’s heart has been led to differing degrees of passion on a diversity of subjects, we are going to experience opinions that may disagree, or even agree for a variety of reasons–the important thing to remember is that God is not authoring confusion here: He is found in each of the hearts that he gathers here every day, allowing us to take more pieces of his flesh and blood from each other–as we, hopefully, walk away from this feast knowing more about him!

  23. gr8grannyjacobs says:

Do you think the disciples were any different than us? They must have had many conversations and differences of opinion just as we do and yet the One who held them together is the same One who holds us together. Ordinary people sharing the love of God as best we know how. I sincerely find uniqueness in each one of you and feel God’s love through each one of you. How great the love of God.

  24. Laurielee says:

Sometimes in trying to show our love for others, it doesn’t turn out the way we’d hoped…it is a misplaced action or misunderstood. When I make mistakes, I try to look at the situation and pray, “Lord teach me in this.” Lessons in humility are not necessarily as negative as they sound, but joy can actually come from them. Wisdom can come from realizing that we really aren’t all that bright sometimes. May the Father smile on you all today!

sjd, I can really relate to the things you say, but you say them so much better!

  25. SFDBWV says:

I am reminded of 1 Corinthians 12, especialy vs 14: For the body is not one member, but many.

Thinking about matters this morning led me to consider the many ways God speaks to us. Over the historical accounting of the Bible. Through his written Word. Through His prophets. Audibly. In the still small voice heard in our hearts.

Since the Day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit Himself speaks through us His Church. To encourage one another, to edify each other. To bring us closer to Him and to each other as well.

Anytime any wisdom is expressed by me or recognized as such. It is not me but the Spirit in me that bears witness of Himself. I am glad I can’t turn it off or on. This is God’s control.

This same power is in each of us, and I recognize the voice of my Shepherd in many of the statements each of you make.

I often am humbled by some and encouraged others. It is a priviledge to be here amongst such dedicated believers.

For me posting is easy and simple. I just am myself. Open and honest. But I do try to be sensitive to others feelings as well.

We are all different, and all the same. I am beginning to see the Trinity explained in us. One body many parts.

  26. mtman says:

I am new to this blog and I posted one for the first time yesterday on ‘Smart Dog’. It appears that the same folks post thoughts regularly and are getting to know each other. It is hard for me to pass up this opportunity to comment on the diversity of nature and spirituality. No need to repost what I wrote yesterday but it seems to me that we humans with our absolute differences take ourselves far to serious. Our 3 dogs which we truly love and live in close proximity to teach us much about nature, and I think the Lord put them here to remind us more of how we should be. They are socially oriented and give up self for the benefit of the pack/family. They are our example of what Mart says is loving patience, hope, and kindness and what it should look like. Where we live we are surrounded by nature of all sorts. We live with the deer, bear, elk, birds, mountain lions, coyotes, wolves and various other animals. I can tell you they are all different within species too. I have interacted with bear, deer and others and they are not all aggressive and some will interact with humans to a limited degree. Some species like mountain lions are more aggressive but not all species. Wild animals seem to know if you are a threat to them and I don’t present to them a victim either but one of mutual respect. It is best to utilize common sense with wild animals. We have chickadee’s that will come and get me when they are out of feed. I have had deer follow me around while I would talk to them. If you have never had a bear sit down a few feet from you while you talk to it you wouldn’t understand. Of all the animals however we learn the most from our three dogs. They display the same attributes that our bible says we should have but we seem to find difficult to achieve. It seems to me that we have the ability to make things complicated that God perhaps didn’t intend for us to. Living where we do we have learned traits from the animals, birds, and such. I have not witnessed any of the animals being self centered, selfish, or rugged individuals. Animals seem more in tune with their instincts than we sophiscated and highly educated humans are. They also seem a lot more content in their environment. It seems that they know what God expects of them and we on the ohther hand spend our lifetimes looking for that mission from God. What this is leading to is that maybe we spend to much time trying to be something we are not and need to accept what we are and not complicate things as badly as we do. Maybe when Jesus took the child to his knee and told his deciples when you do it to the least of these you do it to me, we should be more like that child and not confuse ourselves with intellectual sprirtual thinking. Maybe we can learn some basic good behavior from our pets. As you can tell I’m not a deep thinker and I think that nature can bring us closer to spirituality if we just admit we can learn from species lower on the list than ourselves. We humans have a way of making things difficult that probably shouldn’t be. Anyway that is what I think and I can tell you that wild animals are not always aggressive to humans but do know and appreciate mutual respect. When a totally wild buck will walk up to you and let you rub its nose it knows you don’t intend it harm and its instincts seem to me to be more accurate than all our rationalizing and deep thinking. Maybe we would be closer to God if we were like that child on Jesus’ knee.

When my youngest son was six years old I was rushing them around to get ready for school and me for work. I kept saying hurry up and really stressing out. That little one looked at me and said, “Mom what if we were turtles”. Over all these years I will never forget that. We get in such a rush to be right or to hurry and wait wherever we go, we miss the most wonderful times, people, and animals in life that really are an expression of God’s love for us. In that we also have no time to really listen to each other. The humorous part is God gave us two ears and only one mouth what does that teach us. He also told us over everything else the most important thing is love.

The more I grow in my faith, the more amazing his creation is to me. I have enjoyed reading the comments. The size of his creation, humbles me and to realize the size of his love, humbles me more.

Welcome to all the newbies! After reading some very good comments above, these are my thoughts which are being expressed with every ounce of Christ’s love and respect that I can humanly muster at this point…and gr8grannyjacobs, just in case you were wondering, yes I am smiling and sjd, wanted to let you know that I followed your advice to think a lo—t before writing this…

“The size of his creation humbles me and to realize the size of his love, humbles me more.”- Robert Slone. You have said it best! I was thinking about Adam in Eden with all of creation at his disposal. There was the entire nature including the “souls” (according to some of us) of all the different species of plants, bugs and animals with whom Adam could have enjoyed a wonderful soul-satisfying relationship.

God saw and felt that it was not enough to satisfy the longing of man’s soul. Hence He decided and made Eve- the perfect “soul mate” for Adam. Christ is the last Adam and we, the Church are being prepared to enter into an eternal relationship with Him. The enormity of this spiritual truth is very humbling to me.

Contentment is the key to happiness. mtman, you are right…All of creation is content in their environment. With the security of Christ’s love we should also be contented with whatever each one of us has been called to do. Yes, gr8grannyjacobs, the disciples were disputing among themselves. Peter displayed his insecurity when Jesus indicated by what kind of death he would glorify God. Instead of quietly following Him Peter turned around and inquired about the future of John- the beloved disciple of Jesus.

Jesus simply reaffirms the call of his discipleship: “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me” (John 21:22). Every one has been equipped differently in the body and if we remain contented with the secure love of Christ to wholly focus on our individual roles, there will be the no disunity among us. Just my thoughts….

daisymarigoldr I am glad you thought a long time before writing.:) It was worth the wait.:)! If we are truly content in Christ’s love, it does make all the difference in my ability to risk loving others, being “different” for His glory, realizing each in their own way are able to contribute.

“If our ability to “be right” wasn’t so secure in Christ, seems to me that the call to love God, and one another, would be so daunting…”

The above statement was eluding me for a while. Maybe it still is. I think I am taking a little different take on it

What about this, the fact that if Christ is truly my life, that I no longer live, but Christ lives in me, that “my” ability to “be right” is always there as I yield to Him. The “less of me and more of Him” again! Paul tells us that
“6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him…
    Colossians 3:6

We come to Christ in faith, knowing that there is nothing we can do to gain our salvation, Christ doing it all. We also need to continue to live by faith, realizing that there is nothing we can do in this life of eternal value apart from Christ doing it. As I yield my body to Him as instruments of righteousness, Christ is able to love those around me. I have the security of not only knowing that He will never leave me nor forsake me, but also that He will perform whatever He wants through me. No need for performance to gain salvation, nor to live out this life. Thanks narrowminded for your It is truly GRACE. Sounds mystical to me, and hard to understand, yet the Life of Christ in me is the mystery which was hidden for ages.

    I have always loved mysteries.

ubert and uncertain, I am praying for you.

I meant to say, thanks narrowminded for your emphasis that it is not about our performance, or striving.

  33. narrowminded says:

I have found that it is only when I am at rest does He work in me. The times when I try to be like Him is when I am least like Him.
Seek the face of Jesus and you’ll never again have to settle for finding Him in His creation or story.
    Carry on.

I am not sure what love looks like but I know I feel love for each of you here. I learn so much as we share in God’s love and His word .I appreciate each of you.

narrowminded:Only when I am at rest in Him, those words have so much meaning as that is the time we are the most surrendered to His will. The more surrendered the more we see of Him and the less of self.

daisy Like sjd I to enjoyed each thought you posted. I can’t help but think God was smiling also.

1 John 4:7-12; 7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son[a] into the world that we might live through him. 10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for[b] our sins. 11Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

    Happy Valentines Day

mtman, I would have to say that anyone conversing with a bear a few feet away from herself/himself would be thinking deeply! Thank you, for bringing back some fond memories as a youth growing up in a semi-rural, north-eastern Indiana town. I have felt trapped in my urban environment for thirty years now and have hope as my only prospect of getting out of it.
Please, don’t misunderstand: As God has so ordained my life, I would not change a minute of it! I’ve had to learn many hard lessons along the way–one thing is for sure his shepherding instincts have always led me back to the right road. To be honest, a person can get way ahead of Jesus’ plan even as that person begins to personalize Jesus’ plan. Yes, we need to be as the child you speak of (more often than anyone would care to admit)however, God also encourages us throughout scripture to seek knowledge as we grow to understand that wisdom is found only in him.

Thank you all for your kind comments and support. We do live in a very unique place and in the 12 years we have lived here we have had many encounters with a variety of wild animals. It has been through them that we have gained some valuable knowledge and insight. Mankind has come a long way in technology and understanding “thanks be to God.” I was thinking this morning how wonderful it would have been to have e-mail and blogs to keep in touch with loved ones that have moved on to be with the Lord. As a working person then with a family to raise we were unable to keep in touch by telephone as often we should have. Now it is to late but with the technology today that would greatly have benefitted us then, had it been available. Some of the knowledge we have gained living as we do is that our thinking sometimes takes us away from the Lord and not near him. The animals including our three dogs are not complicated at all and yet He provides for them, the birds of the air and knows every hair of our head. He provides for us all today just as He did in past generations. Our technology and knowledge can bring us closer to Him or it can entrench us in the world. Living simply as we do and having the animals with their simple lives has taught us much. I think this blog provided by Mart De Hann is a good example of having technology for the good. We try to keep our lives here simple and less complicated and feel closer to the Lord by doing so. We see many uses for technology that could bring us close to the Lord but are not used for good. How sad that is….
    Happy Valentines Day.
