Earth Days and After

duckseHave had a lot of conversations over the years with Dean about whether “earth care” should be one of our priorities.

We’ve always shared a love of the outdoors, even though he’s always been the teacher whenever we are out in the field or woods.

I’ll admit that I used to argue that this earth is timed to self-destruct and that followers of Christ need to be far more concerned with things that last than those that will pass away.

I’d talk about what Paul said about worshiping the creation more than the Creator.

But Dean would quote the first part of the chapter where Paul talks about the way God uses the natural world to point to the wonder of his own existence and character.Then he’d talk about Psalm 19 that describes how God not only speaks to us through his written word, but through creation itself.

hawkjpege1 We’d also talk about the way those who had lost interest in the God of the Bible seemed to be the ones who were far more interested in caring for the earth than those of us who say we worship the One who created the world and every good thing in it.

I’ll admit that Dean has had a big influence on me. Even though I’ve always been taken with the way God settled his debate with Job by asking him questions about nature, the weather, and a long list of amazing animals, birds, and creatures of the sea, it has taken Dean’s steady prodding to see how inconsistent it is for us to not cultivate the ongoing connection between Christ and his creation (John 1:1-3).

deerjpgeIf I remember right, I think it was Dean who asked me something like, “Just because we believe we’re going to die someday (if Christ doesn’t come first) doesn’t mean we honor Christ by trashing our body does it?”

I think that may have been one of the 10 or so thoughts that caused me to think that maybe sharing a “wonder of and care for creation” is a most appropriate way honor our Creator/Savior and build bridges to those who think that saving spaceship earth is our only hope.

Mart, the pictures I sent are of a clear cut area along rt 90 near the Tucker& Grant county lines in West Virginia.

Very near the head spring of the Potomac River. In the background on the ridge tops you can see the new wind mills that are taking over our viewscape.

steve11These windmills also kill a large number of bats and birds.

The very wind mills seen are called the Mountaineer Site. The bat kill the first year was recorded as well over 4 thousand.

The US Wildlife Service has told me that the company no longer reports Avain kills.

The clear cut forest belongs to the Western Pocohontus Land Company a subsidiary of CSX Railroad. Just a few miles from here is the Blackwater State Park and Canaan Valley State Park I hope this helps. Steve

    I think about what God says about the earth. He gives the earth a rest every 7 years and every 50th year. I realize it was to teach His children that even the food they plant and sow is all from Him. But the rest allowed the earth to replenish itself. The earth even suffers when we sin and “groans”. The dessert blossoms like the rose when God’s people return home. Israel is one of the largest exporters of Rose from a formerly very deserty place in Sharon, Israel.

    And the Lord God took the man, and put him in the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.If God took time to create this beauitful earth for us to enjoy I would think he would want us to respect what he has done and tend to it.Those pictures you posted from your walk in the country were breath taking.I have never been in the poor countries were there is litterally garbage just heaped everywhere.But I have seen pictures of it.Now just picture your walk that you just posted filled with stenched filled garbage.In stead of the nice birds and deer.There would be rats and vultures and disease.Which would you rather have?I also think of it this way.If you gave your son or daughter a beauitful gift.How would you feel if they just went out and were disresectful and distroyed what you gave them.I would think you would be very hurt.

    Man has failed at most everything concerning the love and care of his environment.
    I have noticed that in nature, we are the odd creatures. We don’t fit in as a part of the cycle of life and death in harmony with the earth.
    We disturb and change the environment around us constantly. Rarely for the conveinience of the natural surroundings. We are the great consumers of all we see.
    It is another lie to believe we can control the environment as political people would have us think. We continue to grow and expand. The environment is in our way. we will not return to a farming only world anytime soon.

    I tend to look at creation from the dual perspective of before and after the fall. In spite of the way geology and paleontology is presented to our children. If viewed from the Bible record it has a very different view and story.

    The world before the flood was a very radicaly different place. The study of that world is found in the fossil record. The only world we know is the world after the flood. Where dinosaurs have become birds and death comes quicker for all creation.

    I want to also say here that as an observer of nature, nature is a cruel and heartless environment. Death is everywhere. Each creature feeding off the other. The law of the jungle prevails. The bigger and more agressive the creature the more successful it is in all it undertakes. Wether it be feeding or breeding.

    If man were without conscience and restrained by God and simply another animal. This earth, this world would indeed be hell.

    Since later childhood/teens, my solitary rambles by day or night in city ravines and country hillsides and woodlands and lakeshores brought me both a kind of undefined yearning and a sense of peace… perhaps simplistically, when I came to Christ in my early 40’s, memories of those long walks and dreamings songs served as affirmation that no, I had not been alone, that yes something – Someone – was waiting for me to find them… and as a new believer until recently, God’s surprise “grace droplets” often centred on some tiny aspect of “nature”… today, I am more and more flummoxed by the unnerving contrast between human misery and our violence against one another often set in the midst of quiet or majestic beauty….
    Personal musings, no theological conclusions here, just gratefulness for what beauty I can discern – whether in music, nature, or the human soul and spirit. Thanks for taking the time to let me share :) and MGB, day by day, step by step, breath by breath

    What happened to being able to click on a picture to enlarge it in order to see it better? Haven’t been able to do that in awhile. Love the pics, but would like to see more detail by enlarging.

    Bob, you know I too enjoy our great outdoors. I feed the critters and love to study their behavior. I may feel safer in the wild than on a city street also. But depending where in nature I would be in booth cases I would probably feel safer with a gun.

    I wanted only to emphasize that we should not get so enamored with nature that we forget it is a wild place. Poisonous snakes, desease carring insects,major preditors that can overpower a man. And a rule of conduct that we can observe but never realy be a part of without disrupting it.

    I just spent 2 weeks with voluteers and a few community service participants cleaning up a half mile of highway from our cemetery in to town. We gathered 2 small dump truck loads of garbage bags and over fifty tires. The issue being further agrivating as we did the same last year at this time.

    I am going to send Mart a picture of a scene not far from here, that speaks volumes of the subject of caring for our environment.

    I haven’t read all posts yet but the error I see in Mart’s post is that God created this good earth and everything in and upon it. He left it in our care and it is a matter of stewardship, now earth worship. Even though I live with wild animals I do not worship them or my surroundings. I marvel at what God has created and recognize that it my responsibility to care for it. To do anything else would be like trashing God’s front yard. Since we don’t know when our Lord is returning shouldn’t we do our best to care for what has been entrusted to us and not waste it or allow it to become a slum. I think it is a matter of stewardship and earth worship has nothing to do with it. To follow Mart’s reasoning would be to trash our environment and then leave it to God to clean up our mess. Like saying to God, you created it and sorry that we trashed it, but since it’s yours anyway you clean it up. That is disrespect, not worship. Just my opinion.

    I can’t wait to get outside every day! The natural world is so different than the “people” world in a way I don’t know the words to express. I read in one of my garden books that one of the nice things about herbs is there’s a scent or flavor for everyone! God in the OT talked about the things of the earth all the time…I love the parable of the sower – we are God’s garden (field). We do have to take care of the earth…what He has given us, He expects stewardship or caretaking, like the ten talents, the vineyards, the inheritance (other parables). It seems to me most of our earth problems come from living too close together, the waste and pollution as well as not understanding natural cycles…trying to control nature. One of the sadder things I’ve experienced was very early one morning, I was working on a street construction crew and the morning briefing was about awareness of endangered species in the area-the kangaroo rat. As he was talking, I looked down and saw a very weak, crumpled mouse-like rodent. I picked it up, it wasn’t much bigger than a walnut, maybe an infant. The speech went on as this tiny thing was dying. The side of the street we were on was where we had parked cars, equipment and dumped base for the project. No one else noticed the rodent…but God says He cares about all these things…so why not us? Talking about nature seems to also open up a common field of conversation with just about anyone…a ripe opportunity to share the Good News too! I do a lot of sustainable type gardening, etc.. It enhances that peace Jesus gives us! I love my RBC neighbors! Thankyou for letting me comment. Loretta

    Bob, you are right we can learn to be careful while out taking walks etc. And yes animals only do what is natural to them. Though there is plenty of rebelious action in the animal kingdom. The young males will rebel against the old fellow often and he has to be able to defend his domain or lose it.

    I really enjoy feeding the deer. But they kick and bite each other and bully their way into the feeder. More than once I have watched raptors swoop in and kill and eat birds at the feeder.

    Civilization…now that’s a word that is mostly an oxymoron. We are more often not very civil to each other. But unlike our animal friends we have the free will to be.

    God gave man rules to live by and Jesus gave us the commandment to “love” oneanother. Not so in nature.

    Bob: I agree and did not mean to imply that we Christians worship the outdoors. I know Christians don’t do that but they do revere and appreciate all God has created for them to enjoy. I live in the wild 24/7 and no one respects and loves nature more than I do. I did not want to give that impression at all and am sorry if I did. There are those however who do worship nature.
    I do fully agree with Steve that this earth is a cruel and dangerous place. I see it on a regular basis. From the insects that devour each other right on up the food chain to the mountain lions/bear eating deer and elk and smaller animals. Then you get to the top of the food chain and find (or see in the news) how man preys on man and children and their cherished pets, and how our behavior is so much worse than that of the animals in the wild. It reveals much about us. That is their way of life but we are suppose to be above that. I have had wild deer eat from my hand. I have stood a few feet away and had a wild bear sit down and listen to me while I talked to him. (I like to tell them all about our Lord) I could go on with many examples but in the wild – if you pay attention and study it – animals are quite predictable. Steve is right, there is a well established pattern in the wild, but not so with us at the top of the food chain. If you know what that pattern is you can be totally safe in that environment but there is no safety walking through a Walmart parking lot with human predators.
    I live in the mountains and I see God in each creature. From the occasional bird that flies into our window and knocks itself out until I revive it in my hand, to the deer that eats from my hand. Every bird that sings has his own song that God gave him/her to sing. Where I live I have God’s handiwork all around me and can never ignore it. I am blessed enough to live in the mountains every day and I know how much you enjoy taking your bible into the mountains to be close to God. Sometimes in the total silence you simply feel the Lord right there with you. Other times it just takes your breath away. Often I find myself overwhelmed with his creation. I can tell you experience the same feelings in the mountains. Some people prefer a lake, desert, stream. park, but for me I love the mountains. Bob, I would like for you to be able to experience for yourself what I experience routinely.
    We can’t assume that the earth and all that is in it will take care of itself. We are charged by none other than the Lord himself to be good stewards of what we have been entrusted with. When I am no longer on this earth I want to leave my little area for someone else to experience and hope that it will draw them closer to our Lord too. You can’t live here long without realizing this didn’t happen by chance.

    I think the Native Americans had a piece of the puzzle like all other people of the world and one day we will be able to share and there maybe more GOOD found when we all come together.

    The Native Americans believed that The Creator (Father) gave us this earth to provide everything we needed for our care so in turn we needed to care for the source. Where a tree was cut down one was replaced and so on but instead of learning from them the people who settled here took from them and replaced their beliefs. Thank God when we now go into a new place we learn and share.

    I believe God has given a part to every race we have to be open to learn and in America I do not think we have learned from those who were here before us.

    I have witnessed that a herd of deer follow a natural pattern. Wolves have their pecking order, deer have the same pecking order.
    To make my point let me tell you about a doe we named Daisy. Not our Daisy that posts here but after a good friend Daisy who was room mates with my mom in the nursing home.
    We have known Daisy deer for 10 years now. She brought her twins around while I was cleaning up outside. She would follow me around as long as I would talk to her. (hours) She kicks and bullies her way into the feeding bin just like you describe. It is part of the natural order within the herd. I am telling you this because Daisy is the only wild animal that I truly respect and love without exception. Her twins are the ones who came back years later and walked up and took food from my hand as fully grown adult bucks. Daisy is the one when a fawn broke her leg and her mother would not take care of her took her in as her own and raised her. She protected her from the other deer and allowed her to eat with her. The only other deer I have ever seen her share with is one of her daughters; maybe the one that broke its leg. Another time a doe was killed and Daisy took her fawn in and raised it to adulthood. Any of the other does could have but didn’t and Daisy did.
    If any deer in that herd she is in is faced with danger she is the one to protect them. Two years ago she came back and had mountain lion claw marks that raked both sides of her from her neck to belly. I know Daisy well enough to know that mountain lion is a little worse for that encounter. When I put out food for them she eats first. Any others try to crowd in and they find out fast that Daisy is ‘always’ first. It is an ongoing learning process for them. They feed in order. Daisy is one tough old gal and I find that pretty true with all three Daisy’s that I know or have known. I only tell you this so you will know that deer have a pecking order too. (also don’t ever mess with any gal named Daisy)
    In addition so that our Daisy deer will have her story memorialized because she is in her twilight years now. I don’t know from year to year if she will come around again. When she doesn’t I know I will have lost a real friend.
    She is the herd leader because of her LOVE, not her strength. She will sacrifice herself for the rest of the herd; she will defend them to death and she will love, teach and nurture them to no end. That is what I mean when I say that living with God’s wild animals is a learning experience second to none. A deer herd has it own natural pecking order just like other species. I do all I can to protect Daisy and her environment. This is an absolute true story and I witnessed a major part of her life in the 10+ years I have known Daisy.

    Luk 12:27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not,(Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.) they spin not;(but it is God that giveth the increase, He must increase, but I [must] decrease) and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed(Dressed) like one of these.

    In verse Luk 12:27, Christ gives a great example of how the lilies depend totally on God’s power to feed them, they don’t worry about anything, and yet they are dressed with more glory than Solomon, for they totally depend on their Creator to give them life…Here is Christ’s answer to those with so little faith>>>Luk 12:28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more [will he clothe] you, O ye of little faith…We should not worry about what our bodies need, nor let us doubt our heavenly Father, For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things…Luk 12:31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

    Nice picture of the deer, which brought to my mind verses Psa 42:1-2.

    Psa 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

    Our attitude should be to “long” after and to be thirsty after the living waters that descend from the river of the throne of him that lives forever, and from the throne of the Lamb.

    SFDBWV: My mother a few years ago while talking with her about the things of God, she told me that she had a very vivid dream of Jesus coming in great glory with his angels, though she passed away just last year in this month, she accepted Jesus in her heart as her Savior.

    Black bears are curious and have terrible sight. There is danger in the wild, but not nearly the danger in cities. I hope someday you will get to experience what I do on a regular basis.

    I ask for forgiveness because I have a question and it is off topic. I just heard on a Christian news program that the courts are trying to stop people of homosexual persuasion from adopting children. I am so upset because I totally believe that a sin is a sin but to not allow children to be in a home to be loved is wrong. Why would we just not say anybody who sins is not allowed to adopt a child. It seems to me that people who want to open their home to a child who has nobody except those homes where there is abuse is all right. Is this wrong and do I need to adjust my thoughts? Help me understand!

    Bob I knew you meant rebellion against God, I guess I didn’t want others who don’t live among the critters to think that all of natures animals are like Disney characters.
    One of my many aggravations with birds are the Starlings. They will attack smaller birds already in a nest and steal the nest and kick out the other birds eggs. They will also get into any opening they can to nest. I have had to get them out of my gutters more than once. But you are so very right they know very well how to be a starling

    Watching the natural and wild things aroud me is a subject with no end. I like to look into the dark night sky and if lucky see a shooting star. However if a meteor fell on my house I probably wouldn’t think it so pretty.

    mtman Bruce, We too, have a couple of protective doe’s that come into the feeder. They always have their fawns with them and most often one they have adopted. We also have an old bully doe that tries to run off every other deer. There are a couple of yearlings that run to me when I come out to feed like a pet. I try not to encourage that, as not everyone is as friendly to them as I.

    The few bears that come in this close to town are usualy tagged trouble makers that the State of Maryland has removed from the State Parks and relocated to this area, accross the river from us. Of course the bear don’t know about state lines but does remember that where people are food is close at hand. So they come to rob and plunder. They usually scare off easlily enough.

    One of the people exagerated stories I will tell is about the cemetery. Several years ago it was reported to me that some witches cult must have been up in the cemetery trying to dig up some dead bodies. After a closer examination of the story it had been a black bear that knocked over a couple stones and was digging for grubs underneath them. Of course the witches story got around the gossip circles better than the truth.

    Bob. I want you to understand, I understand fully your position. With animals you know where you stand. They usually will always behave the same, however God intended for them too. Though in our future the lion will lie down with the lamb.
    With people it is different. But I still have a love for people. However, like Jesus did, we also need to get away from the crowd and go into the wilderness for peace.

    I love to run in the evening after work. I go to a park not far from here. It’s a clay trail and there are a lot of birds, squirrels….and sometimes a cat or two. Anyway, it’s so peaceful to walk/run for an hour outside everyday. I really appreciate God more when I’m out there.

    Boy oh boy, this is a good one. So many ways that my love of the outdoors and the wonder and beauty of nature(God’s creation) can be misconstrued by those who don’t know Him. I can stand in absolute awe of a 3000 year old redwood and its’ grandeur, or I can be just as fascinated by the workings of an ant colony, but in both instances it’s not so much the created thing I marvel at but the wisdom and power and majesty and glory of the Creator that spoke this world into existence. And that fills me with a reverential awe of the Word. As the psalmist sings the praises of God in #19 and how these things we see with our eyes are testimony to His greatness, and can maybe even give us some sort of concept of who God is….it’s not until David begins to recount the ways God truly reveals Himself to us in the second half that he begins to understand and know. It brings him to his knees. I can see how there’s this somewhat distorted view held by the diehard environmentalist that if we can save the world we can save ourself, but I truly believe that that’s just another ploy that the god of this world uses to keep focus on self. Kind of like “if I can save that–it can save me” I guess. We shouldn’t just go rippin’ and tearin’ through the place like there ain’t no tomorrow, but we shouldn’t be overly protective at the expense of humanity either. On a somewhat strange note I’m gonna recount some old 70’s stuff. Might I? Those were the early days of greenpeace and tree-huggers and no-nukes kinda guys, and you’d see those bumperstickers all the time. “save the whales,etc.” A good friend of mine was the world champion of sarcasm and cynical, so he had a custom-made bumpersticker that was “NUKE THE WHALES”. Still brings me to tears. Of laughter. I take the stance of wise stewardship. God has blessed us with the things we need and it’s somewhat of a crime to not be skillful in our practice. But I also believe that on the other side of the coin is that the destruction of the place is a prerogative and privilege that God reserves for Himself. We can turn this place into a wasteland if we’re not cautious, but before we blow the place to smithereens Lord Jesus intervenes. It saddens me to know how deceived the world is when it comes to all their ’causes’. Really only one “cause” that’s worth taking up. Spread the gospel. Back to BTA. I was a hunter/fisher until a few years ago, but not having given them up for ecological reasons(too-o expensive), and have been the outdoor type all my life. Lived alone on mountaintops for months at a time, and would go for weeks without uttering a sound. Just me and the creation and I loved it. At those times it wasn’t so much that I felt closer to God or that I saw God in creation, it was more so that I had time and opportunity to let my mental activity slow down and quiet. And that was where I could commune with the Father.Ps46:10. Being a child of God and a joint-heir with the Lord Jesus Christ requires me to take everything into consideration in light of the Word of God, and that requires diligent study, and understanding and discernment, and that brings me to a place where I can never just look at lifes’ stuff from a casual, on-the-outside glance. And something that can seem worthy of my attentions isn’t always what it appears to be, so I meditate and pray on these things and by living trust and faith in the Lord Jesus I can rest assured that I’ll be okay. Prov 3:5-8 has been a landmark decision for a long time. Hey gang, isn’t it great to be born again? GT

    I just loved everyones stories about the deer and bears.I live in the Adriondack mountains.I use to take care of an elderly woman a coulpe of years ago.She wanted me to feed the deer at her house.At first I was scared to death that they would come and attack me for the food.They would just run into the woods a little ways and watch me. As soon as I headed back towards the house they would come out and start fighting over the food.I felt sorry for the little ones they would never get much to eat by the time the other ones were done. they did fight over the food just like you said.the poor things were so hungry they would try and eat the bird seed out of the bird feeder.I finally got use to them and they were getting use to me.It finally got to the point when they saw my truck pull in the driveway they would come out of the wooods towards the house and me looking for food.one time driving on the back roads I saw a black bear and her cubs crossing the road.another time I saw a duck with her babies following her across a busy highway.That time I had to pray for there saftey because I don’t know if they were going to make it across that busy road.I have also seen fox a couple of times.But my favorite was a family of raccoons.In all the yeas I have lived here I have only seen the raccons that one time.I just love living in the country.I grew up in New Jersey.AS a kid I was always in the park across the street for us.The concrete jungle is not for me.I need trees grass birds and flowers.

    PoohPity, I just don’t know how to answer your guestion.I agree that children need a good loving home.But I do not beleive that to bring a child into that kind of enviorement is to healty for the children.Most children who need homes come from broken families already.I can’t see where living with a homosexual couple could really offer them with what they need.The divorce rate is so high now that there are so many single parent homes.It would seem the rate of homosexual couples staying together for any length of time would be even higher.The bible also says to train up a child in the ways he should go and when he is older he shall not depart from it.There are no God fearing homosexuals that I know of other wise they wouldn’t be in that life style.I remember reading John mcternins book Gods final warning to America.In it he was telling the percentage of violent deaths among the homosexual community.I wish I still had the book to look it up.I remember my cousin Peggy married a homosexual.They ended up divorced and my sister told me years later he ended up dead.They found him with 32 stab wounds.I want all children to have a good home also but like I said I don’t know if this would be right.

    Mtman, love your thinking and honesty. I do believe in your first post that you have misinterrupted brother Mart. I am not sure how you think that he was advocating trash the planet and let God clean it up…? Sometimes when we get off topic or misunderstand what was meant it is intriguing to read the follow up comments to the misrepresenting comment, lol. Maybe I’m wrong, did I miss something.?

    Does anyone have a clue as to what’s actually happening? Here we are on the threshold of annihilation and people are worried about kangaroo foxes? Somewhere along the way we got our priorities mixed up. But seriously folks, it’s always been like this. To one degree or another. When Jesus said He saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning where do you think he fell to? The world that we see in front of our eyes has been created by God, but the power in control behind the visible is not Him. His will is being worked out but if you closely examine His Word you’ll see that there’s somebody up to no good all the time. The apostle Paul gives us a summary in Ephesians 6:12 concerning what we’re up against, and reiterates in IICor 10:5. If all that was wrong was that we live too close together or pollute too much or don’t understand(?) the natural cycles, or anything other than what it really is it will only get worse. Man, there’s 6.5 billion people on this marble and they’re all jockeyin’ for the best spot. It seems apparent that we haven’t learned that much about takin’ care of the place. So what do we do? Each and every single last solitary person has to do their part. We can’t blame someone else because to the other guy that sees it the way we do we’re the someone else in his eyes. It would take a monumental united effort on the part of us all to restore even a hundredth of the what needs to be fixed. Do we stick our heads in the sand and think gov’t is going to legislate a fix-it program that all of a sudden miraculously everybody’s gonna abide by. Prob’ly not. These things require sacrifice to come to any worthwhile fruition, and it seems to me that it’s so much easier to just lay back and la-di-da it till the cows come home and that will be that. OR We can take the time to evaluate the damage that we(I) do in the little slice of earth that might be ours and actually do something progressive to bring about the change. I mean I can only be a good steward over the thing that’s been entrusted to me. I’m not gonna fall into that trap of thinkin’ “what’s the use?”. I’m just gonna make that determination to do the thing that can only be done by me and stick to my guns no matter what from here on out. It’s what I’ve been doin’ since then and when, and I don’t believe I’ll stop now. To be ecologically/environmentally/economically frugal and consistent is something that a world of “gotta have mine/more” is finding out is a hard thing to do when you ain’t never done it. What now?? Have we as humanity let it get past the point of no return? I hate to sound pessimistic because I’m the quintessential optimist when it comes to “we can do this, guys”, but we need to pool our resources. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” IICor1:3,4 ‘Night y’all GT

    poohpity: The Bible is not an authority unto itself. It is the “Manufacturers Operating and Maintenance Instructions” and “Warranty” that is provided to us for the care and maintenance and successful operation of our bodies, including our minds.

    The authority lies with God who created us and gave us the Bible as instructions and as a recorded example of what happens when we do “right” by his standards (and receive blessings and eternal life) or do “wrong” by his standards (and receive cursings and eternal death) (See Deu. 30:15, 19).

    All specific mention of homosexuality in scripture shows it to be condemned by God. The first is the account of Sodom and Gommorah, (from which it became known as “sodomy”) and in this account it is the only “sin” mentioned. (Gen. 18:20, 19:1-13,).

    It is specifically condemned in Lev. 18:22, “You shall not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is an abomination.” This is in the middle of a list of sexual sins including incest, adultery, fornication, bestiality, and child sacrifice by burning them alive, verses 6-30.
    The penalty was death, Lev. 20:13.

    It is condemned in Deu. 23:17-18, (the “price of a dog, in the context of “the hire of a whore”, refers to male prostitution).
    It is also mentioned as “wickedness” in Judges 19:16-25. It is called “sodomy” in 1 Kings 14:24 and is referred to as an “abomination”. Asa is declared righteous for “taking away the sodomites out of the land” (killing them or driving them out) and for putting an end to idolatry, 1 Kings 15:11-12. Lesbians appear to be included in the term “sodomites” as seen in 2 Kings 23:3-7.

    Paul, a prominent teacher of Christianity, shows that both homosexuality and lesbianism were still condemned after Christ’s death and resurrection, Rom. 1:22-32. He also mentions it in a list of sins in 1 Tim. 1:10.

    Those who do not repent of these sins shall not inherit the kingdom or eternal life. “Know you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous , nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Cor. 6:9-10.

    Laney, I went back and read the posts, thanks. I too have had a life of profound dreams of prophesy. They have had a great influence on me. Some I have not understood until after the events concerning them came to pass. Others I am still awaiting, thoes concern the end.

    Claudia, we are not too far from oneanother. I have been on a couple committees to help clean up the Chesapeake Bay. The states did everything backward. instead of starting at the head of the Potomac they came here last. King Coal will not lose out to a clean Bay.

    What I do is have a file of web-size photos, so that when I “save for Web” they all go to one place. I go to the “file” menu for it. When you seek to save it, it says it is too large and asks if you want to continue. I hit yes, and then it brings up the photo very large, so you see only a part of it. Then you go over to the far right where you see a box with the label “New Size.” For a horizontal, I typically save at 1000 pixels in the width box. 800 for a vertical. The height sets automatically . Then click on OK. It should take you then to your file where you can save it. I usually give the picture a caption there.

    Once that is done, when you are in your post edit visual mode and select “add image” it takes you to the standard box where you will need to find the photo from the browser. Then you go in your browser to that Web photo file and select the photo you want from it. From there you “insert in post.” Then save it. At that point it will be too large for your post; so you click on the picture and hit the edit button that pops up. Once there you select its position (none, left, right, or center) and then hit the “Advanced” menu at the top of the photo. At the bottom of that screen you put a 0 in the border size. That will then make the photo edge the border instead of putting a border box around it. Then in the horizontal box put in 8 or 10, to give you the space you need on the left and right of the photo in relationship to the type. A little trick I do then is to click beside the “horizontal” box and on the pixel box immediately above you see that it shows the pixel size you just put in. So if you entered 8, you will see “8px by 8px” The first 8 is the left side. The second 8 is the right side. So if I have the photo on the left, I just replace the first 8 with a zero so that when you finish, the pic is flush left. Of course if you have a photo on the right-hand side, you want it flush right. So just change the second 8 to a 0. That will make if flush right when you go down to the bottom and update.

    When you update, you will be back in your post edit mode. Now you can change the size of the photo just by clicking on it and grabbing a corner box and shrink it to the size you think is about right and then save and preview the post. In the preview mode you can see if the proportions are still not right and can then go back and make more adjustments of photo size. You can even grab the photo after you click on it and drag it up or down a bit to position it. If that’s how you normally put your pics in, you know that it is sort of tricky, because what it looks like in the edit mode is different from what it looks like in the preview mode. That’s where I usually spend the most layout time.

    Hows that for an easy explanation?! Believe me, it is much easier to show you; so if this does not compute very well, I can show you when you get back. Or if you want, you can give me a call, and I can walk you through it. [end of Dean’s explanation…

    Mart the pictures I sent are of a clear cut area along rt 90 near the Tucker& Grant county lines in West Virginia. Very near the head spring of the Potomac River. In the background on the ridge tops you can see the new wind mills that are taking over our viewscape. These windmills also kill a large number of bats and birds. The very wind mills seen are called the Mountaineer Site. The bat kill the first year was recorded as well over 4 thousand. The US Wildlife Service has told me that the company no longer reports Avain kills.
    The clear cut forest belongs to the Western Pocohontus Land Company a subsidiary of CSX Railroad.
    Just a few miles from here is the Blackwater State Park and Canaan Valley State Park

    Plumbape: You are right that what I wrote is pointing the wrong finger, especially at Mart. His opening comment regarding how he used to think unfortunately is the way many still think today. That is the earth can take care of itself. Our planet has some self healing qualities for sure but that should not relieve our responsibility to do our share.
    There are more today who think like Mart used to think about trashing the earth; and third world countries and China come to mind. Mart had Dean to put him on the right path but most don’t want to hear anything that would challenge them to be good stewarts of what we have been entrusted with. When I see our resources being exploited like they are – especially water, it tends to trigger my hot button. Its not that folks tend to worship natural things because that isn’t the entire problem. Its the exploitation and wastefullness of what God put here for us to enjoy that is upsetting. More the mindset than anything else. I wasn’t picking on Mart as much as the frustration of trying for years to get people to be better stewards of what we have and constantly hitting a stone wall.

    PoohPity, Beleive me I have thought of bringing some child or children into my home.I really wish I could.But since my husbands death I had to sell my home and move into a small apt in a three family house.Ionly have two bedrooms and the extra one I need for my 82 year old mother.I even thought well I can give the other bedroom to a child I’ll sleep on the couch.But unfortunately my health isn’t the best.I wouldn’t want to move to a bigger place because I have my daughter and granddaughter living up stairs from me.There were a couple of times I needed them to help take care of me.Some of my friends have said your mother should be in a nursing home you have all you could do to take care of your self let alone her.But right now she is with me and I know she would never want to go in a nursing home.So for right now I pray and ask God to give me health and strength to be able to continue to take care of her.I try the best I can With the Lords help.I have all I can do to take care of myself and my mother there is no way I could keep up with the needs of a Child.I ‘am also sure if I tryed to take one in they would say I wasn’t a suitable candiadate. to have one.

    Claudia, Thankyou for sharing about the wild life in yor area.I,m so glad you mentioned to click on Dean Ohlmans blog.I didn’t know that was there to read.I clicked on and read some of the stories they were wonderful.I love plants,animals and all nature.Since my health has declined I can no longer go for nice long walks in the woods.I also don’t have the space for a garden of vegetables or flowers.But my God is so faithful he knows I have really been missing all of that.Now he has led me to this site so I can get to see and enjoy all of nature through the eyes of another.I will be visiting there often.Thanks Mart and Claudia for tellin me about this site.But mostly thankyou Lord for leading me to BTA.He has also blessed me with alittle stream in the back of my house were I have seen a family of ducks last year.My neighbor called me the other day to tell me to come out in the yard there were turkeys.But by the time I got out there the stray cat that he was feeding over the winter chased them away.He also said he seen a deer out there last week.

I know there will be no crying or weaping in heaven but if you are an exploiter now how could you not feel sorrow when you have a new earth to compare?

    MTMAN, Don’t admire my positive attitude.You would not be saying that on the days that I have had a crying pity party for myself.Thank God when satan tries to pull that on me I don’t let it last long.Or else I try to stop it altogether.I can’t change the past or make my life any better than what it is now so I have to learn to be content with what I have.I try to find some joy in the little things in life.Even if its just watching a bird fly past my window or a squirrel running across the driveway with a nut in his mouth.I still wonder where he found that nut.The hard part was trying to fill my days with something to do.I’am glad thatI decided to get a computer and have my granddaughter teach me the basic elements of using it.It was the best thing I did to help fill my time and get to meet everyone here.

    Thank you for sharing a part of yourself with us. I just have to say for me, I do not have the desire to do foster care or adoption. Raising children is not my cup of tea and am looking forward to my 20 year old getting out on his own as soon as possible. The reason I asked was because some have been given the gift and the desire to bring children into their homes and raise them. They also have the money to provide for them. I guess I fully believe God can use anyone He wants and anyway He wants to get His will accomplished. I trust God’s heart that to leave a child without anyone is worse.

    I did not mean to go off topic I just had to vent. I have posted on Dean’s blog before but I also said that just like GT mentioned we each have our own responsibility to pickup after ourselves but when that takes over neglecting the care of people it really rubs me the wrong way.

    Oddly enough, those few words were written by someone that had no idea what it would be like along about now. The author was a rock ‘n roller from the 60’s, Jim Morrison of The Doors,and even though I was a fan of the band back then, once born again my entire outlook on everything that that genre represents became repulsive to me. But that doesn’t discount the fact that his observation was perceptive. We see all too well how the industrial/military complex that calls the shot has torn the place apart in their lust for power, money, and prestige. At the expense of everyone but themselves. But tell me somethin’ I ain’t never heard before and don’t know nothin’ about. Then you might be able to hold my ear for a minute. You know(maybe you don’t), I was born in the morning…but not this morning. I thoroughly enjoyed Mart’s BTA, and I agree with Dean and his’ views concerning the conservation of our natural resources. But can a public outcry be heard by those who sit in those boardrooms and make decisions based entirely on shareholder profits and outlandish bonuses? Does the everyday guy have a voice that can be heard above the scream of the earth in the ears of those whose hearing is tuned-in only to the sound of silver&gold. Those of us who honor and worship the Living God are up against a formidable foe, indeed. Money, power, greed, fame, beauty, lust, and most clever..pride. We can be deceived by so many subtle devices that are parading under the banners of a hundred seemingly worthwhile causes. Let us be alert and vigilant in the decisions to jump on this bandwagon or that. We as Christians should exercise whatever gift we have in a way that brings honor and praise to the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us be careful in our choices. GT

    BeeGee: Good post and what comes to my mind is the longest journey starts with a single step. Money greed,fame, beauty, lust and power can overwhelm us if we allow them to but we don’t have to allow that. I am a good stewart of my small plot of ground. If a company does something I don’t think is appropriate with the environement I tell them so and if I use their product I stop using it. If we all do our little part then the second step becomes easier, and the third etc. I don’t ever take a stand without praying first.
    I remember when K-Mart had child porn in its Walden stores and refused to remove it. People stopped going to K-Mart and they ended up going out of business. We Christians unfortunately would rather pick at nits than get together to stand for something – like being good stewarts of our planet. I really like your posts. Your logic follows a well grounded Christian pattern. Thank you…..

    Laney, The first dream I remember was when I was about 7 years old or so.
    Everywhere people were being swallowed up by holes that appeared in the ground underneath them. The hole opened they went down into them and the hole disappeared.
    My mother and father were swallowed up. Then just as a hole appeared under me, I could see it was a funnel shape and I kept kicking and trying not to slip down into it’s depth….Then suddenly the hole disappeared.

    All the holes that had swallowed people opened up and released all the people who had been swallowed into them…..The sun came out like it does right after a spring rain and every thing was fresh and new.

    I will be 62 this year, I still remember that dream as if it were last night….Make of it as you will, Maybe just a dream, maybe a little encouragement, maybe God was speaking.

    I can tell you from first hand experience as a Forster Parent… It ain’t easy and unless you are at the top of your game physically and mentally things can go very wrong very quickly!

    I am an outdoors lover… Didn’t start that way but a man, the son of an elderly neighbor, once saw it fit to help me out when I was a troubled youth. He started out having me help him cut grass at his folks place. Eventually, he taught me how to hunt and enjoy the outdoors. This man had a profound effect in my life and had he not taken the time with me Lord only knows what would have become of me.

    I like the idea that he taught me “wherever you go… when you leave, leave it a little better than when you came.”

    MTMAN, what can I say it’s the joy of the Lord.
    Poopity I know what you mean about venting.When I see all the children especially in the third world countries living on the streets without anyone to care for them plus all the other harrows some of them face it just breaks my heart.I wish I could help them all.I do my part by praying for them and leaving them in my fathers care.I go to bed at night just thanking him for all he has given me.Food and shelter a nice warm bed to crawl into at night.I know some day I to can be in that situtation if he allows it.I hope I will be able to cope with it and not moan and complain.

    OGRamps That is why I know I would not be able to do foster care.Even if my health was good those kids would definately take advantage of me.Especially where disicipline was needed I’m to much of a softey.

Jesus was the sun that had come out making the people fresh and new.They were cleased in the blood and given a new nature.

    SFDBWV, I just remembered a vision I had one time in church.One of the men Spoke up on the importance of praying for the lost.As soon as he said that I had a vision of the lost.The vision was in shades of black and gray coloring.There was a concrete wall and behind this wall were people that I don’t even have all the words to describe.They looked like the holocust victims.I could feel there hopelessness and dispair.On the other side of the wall were people with little hammers chipping away at this wall to break the wall and help the people escape.I to to this day remember that vision and all the others I have received.After that vision it really encouraged me to keep praying for the lost.

    Steve how horrible the devastation that these wind mills caused.We have some up here also .I always thought they were a good alternate for power.But not after what you just told us about all the birds and bats being killed.I can now understand more and more how the book of revelation talks about famines and pestilence.We have genetically engineered food.We are also killing off all the bees.There will be no fresh water to drink.No fish in the streams rivers and oceans.Even if there were no wars or bombs to destroy the planet.Jesus would still need to come back just to fix the mess man has made of destroying the earth.

    Claudia, it will take 20 to 30 years before there is a forest in the area of the pictures. It is about 3 to 4 miles from where I stood to take the pictures to the horizon. There is not a tree left standing over 5 inches.
    This is a result of greed, with no thought of consiquence.
    Windmills may sound like a good “green” way of producing electricity. But not up here on ridgetops. They are just plain ugly and kill birds and bats every day. To add to their disruptive presense, several acres of forest has to be cleared for each windmill and roadways and power lines have to be cleared to them as well.
    Ronald Reagan said “if not us who, if not now when?” when speaking of other matters. I can say the same about responsible management of our environment. We have got to do better.

    Steve, I know this is off topic but am putting it here so you’re likely to see it. I haven’t read the blog for a couple days as it’s my last couple weeks of school for the summer and I’m busy. I just read the post about Matt’s dream and had to tell you something… I’m getting the feeling (as it’s a FEELING, I could be wrong)but it seems odd that Matt had that dream and I’m having my dreams again…they just started a couple nights ago. I was just falling asleep, or was asleep, and I thought Jesus was here, I mean in the flesh! I’ve never felt the feeling before that I had! It was so intense, and I felt so unworthy of being in His presence! I haven’t had the dreams for about 9 years. (The surgery incident I told you about was different.) When I had this dream the other night, it brought back IN FORCE, one I had 9 years ago; I was in the foyer of a church, with two big wooden doors with iron rings on them that led to the sanctuary. I opened the doors, and from the pulpit came Jesus riding on a white horse, getting larger as He came closer. I realized that He was going into the world, and I ducked as He came closer so I wouldn’t be hit by the hooves as He jumped over me. No need to worry when I knew I wouldn’t be hurt. Crazy, huh? It’s ok if you think it’s an overactive imagination…but I’m wondering if there is more and more of this happening to others.

    pooh, your questions about parenting… I understand what you’re getting at, but have been doing alot of thought about this subject recently, with the recent law change in Iowa. The thing I keep coming back to is that the thing kids want most is to be like other kids. How would the child feel with 2 mommies or 2 daddies showing up for school conferences? Even when a child is quite small, they need to be TAUGHT that some families are different, because a child seems to know instinctively that there should be one parent of each gender. Though we adults keep selfish ownership of our own “happiness”, most times the children lose out. Many families break up because one of the parents feel that they have a right to be happy, which means that they want to leave to seek this happiness out. Just because a child IS in a circumstance with a single parent, doesn’t mean that they are not loved or raised well. A child learns what is acceptable from their parents. Growing up, it’s what they “know”. As I’ve said before, I came from an unbelieving family. As I grew up, I was very confused…I knew that there was a right and wrong, but I didn’t know what it looked like. The only thing I knew for sure was good was the Bible, so I read it to find out. I made many mistakes in my life because I did not know how to make good decisions. Though I’m not proud of it, several years ago, when my sisters and brothers were going in and out of jail, drugs, and losing their children, I blurted out at my mother, “Why didn’t you teach us the difference between wrong and right?” Many people who naturally have children are prone to bad behaviors, but they are born into the situation. Are we right in putting children into a situation in which we know ahead of time that the situation is wrong? They say that you can tell alot about a country by the way they treat their children…what does ours say about us?

    Relating to the subject of the environment, I heard a quote, “Take only pictures, leave only footprints.”

    mtman, we have our own version of your “Daisy” and we affectionately call her Limpy. Two years ago she came in with a very obvious limp from an injury in her front left leg. We don’t know if it is an old, healed over hunting injury or if she may have been hit by a vehicle. You can see a lump above her leg where it seems to be out of it’s socket or something. The limp is so obvious when she is walking, but when she runs it’s an entirely different story. You’d never know she had anything wrong with her.

    We’ve lived here nearly 34 years and never had a doe bring ber fawns to our yard until last summer when Limpy brought her TRIPLETS! Another doe brought twins & another a single offspring.

    Before Limpy gave birth, she was huge. One day she was licking at the salt block with her side towards us. I saw a couple of golf ball sized lumps moving around under her skin & knew, immediately that those were little hooves & felt that she would be giving birth very shortly. She showed up three days later in a down-sized version. About 5-6 weeks later was when she showed up with her triplets.

    During the last deer hunting season, hubby wanted to shoot her, worried that she would not survive winter. I wouldn’t allow it, but secretly worried about coyotes getting her when the snow got deeper. I was so relieved when she showed up again several weeks ago. She’s going to be a mom again!

    AARRGGHH! Going to be offline again for possibly a week or more. Laptop came back from repairs a bit over a week ago, but in the course of using it, found that a couple things are not still right. So, it’s going back in while I have a 3 month warranty on the newly completed repairs. It’s scheduled for pickup tomorrow (actually today, since it’s after midnight! Just didn’t want anyone concerned over my absence.

    laurielee, I believe God speaks to us often in our dreams. I heard a fellow say once that the difference between regular dreams and supernatural ones are the fact that we remember them so vividly, that they stay with us.
    Even nightmares can be from God. I was blessed when I finaly understood that God had sent a demon spirit to torment Saul. God had sent it God could stop it.Saul never repented of his sin and so died in them.
    I suffered a nightmare for well over seven years. Someday I may go into the detail of it for everyone but not today. The end result was my returning to God, my “reward” was my son Matthew.
    I believe there is nothing God won’t do in order to nudge us into submission and bring us to salvation. Dreams are a way of awakening something wrong in our life or sometimes a glimps of what lay ahead.
    The point is to always give God full control of our lives and then accept bad times as well as good. But always keeping our eyes upon Him, God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

    Wanted to say that the care for our environment is like all else. It is an individual responsibilty.
    Many of the bad choices we have to live with are a result of the control being in the hands of others. When a corporation only thinks of profit and not of consequence, their decisions can cause the suffering of others…We are no different.

    The reason mtman and I get so frustrated being active conservationists, is because the issue is not under our control. All we can do is to try and bring attention to the matter and hope good sense will win out. The problem is that money wins more often than not in environmental issues.

    I mentioned earlier, that we cleaned up a portion of highway close to our community. This is something we can do. Even if it amounts to cleaning up after other thoughtless people. The result is that we do something in order to create a better environment for everyone to enjoy.

    Plant a flower, plant a tree, put out a bird feeder. Take time to watch nature around you wherever your are. Most cities have an abundence of bird wildlife. You can find a peace in your heart while allowing yourself to enjoy the natural life around you. I find also God speaking to me when I can quiet my spirit.

    Steve: You put it so eloquently and clear. Thank you so much. I think more than just us are conservationists but the problem is so over whelming, which is why we celebrate little victories. Today we celebrate earth day with the emphasis on day. We should celebrate our environement every day and not just once a year. Wake up each morning and thank God for this wonderful planet he has provided for us to live upon.
    I’m sitting here looking at a photo of place I prospect for gold each summer on the Arkansas River, while I type this. It is beautiful with the water rushing over the boulders and rocks and the trees along the river and mountain peaks in the background. Unfortunately I know the water is not safe to drink, the gold is coated with mercury and the fish have it in them as well. Not to mention the arsenic and other polutants in the water. All due to careless mining up river. Our government attempts to do right but in the end they just mess it up. Earth day should be every day but if everyone did what you describe one day a year it would still be a better place.
    I don’t know much about dreams but other than where they are recorded in the bible. I suspect there is something to them but it is far from me to figure out what that is. I find your sharing of dreams facinating.

    MTMAN, Your comment about our governments attempt to do right but in the end they just mess it up.Man is always going to mess things up.No matter what good we try to do it some how just seems to back fire on us.Even in the medical field.I went to the dentist yesterday while there we talked about the murcurey in the fillings.My teeth got filled they wont rot for a while but at what cost to the rest of my body because of the murcurey.Also pennicillian.It’s good for infections but you have to be careful even with that.It can cause problems.I guess what I’m trying to say is it will always be this way in this sin filled world.Thats why we need Jesus to come back.There is a cd that I have one of the songs is Come let us go up to the mountain.Nations will be flowing to zion when they see the house of the Lord running to his peaceful kingdom shouting they will lay down their swords.Come let’s go up to the mountain come let’s go up to the house of the Lord come let’s go up to the mountainHe will teach us his ways.Wash us with the spirit of burning let your beauitful fruit shine forth then everyone who is left in zion will be called holy foreever more.Arise and shake the earth so mighttily send your glory all across the land then everything that is proud and lofty will bow down before the Son of man.Over all the glory there will be a covering.     laney, you made me think of something… Though man’s ways are woefully inadequate and he is incapable of perfection in anything he undertakes, the Father can bring good from everything to His glory. We look around at the current state of the world and end up being downcast in spirit, BUT the state of the world makes His ways and His eternal life for us look that much better! When everything is going well, people are less apt to say, “Come, Lord Jesus.” Thank the Lord that we have “a future and a hope”!!!

    laney: Gosh, talking to the dentist is kind of like good news and bad news. The good news is when your teeth fall out from the mercury they will be healthy but you need the mercury to keep them that way.
    You are right that it will probably always be this way. That is why we celebrate little victories when we can. I have to admit they don’t come often enough. I guess my concern is why do we have to do this to ourselves. It is preventable.
    Our area is a beautiful mountain area and I found out that our association is spraying a herbicide along our roads and in our meadows that is a known toxic compound containing dioxin. Dioxin according to the EPA is the worst and most dangerous toxin known to mankind. It was called Agent Orange when used in Viet Nam. In short it causes cancer and it is VERY fatal to pets and children. I wanted them to post where it is sprayed so we could avoid those areas and they flatly refused to post them. We can’t walk our dogs down the road for fear of getting into it. I have gone to the EPA, State Ag. Dept. and the Govenors office and no one seems overly concerned. Both the EPA and USDA have provided me studies that show it is seriously toxic. It is linked to many forms of cancer including breast cancer. This is unfortunately the mentality that spurs us environmentatlists on. They are exposing us and our pets to a known toxic substance (many gallons of it per year) and it only requires a little commons sense to protect us from it. It will and can kill us.
    I guess while I know that your song is true and how it will be one day it still triggers something within me to allow people to put us in danger and casually look the other way. Their reply to me was the entire area is already toxic! You get into it and die that is your problem!
    I can’t help how I am and I will probably go right on fighting for what is right and just even though I continue to hit my head against a brick wall time and again. I know when my time comes to be with the Lord the fight won’t be won on the environment and I’ll be worn out and exausted but I’ll still be in there fighting until my last breath. That is just the way the Lord hardwired me.
    Incidentally this stuff they spray can be absorbed through the skin, breathed in as airborne dust and ingested orally as in dogs licking paws. It has a scientific documented history of being a major toxic compound. To allow them to expose us to something that will kill us in time and not do something about it is just not in me. There are powerful groups all over N. America fighting against this toxin and we all are losing or barely holding our own against major chemical companies. How can people faced with the facts do something like this is my problem and my question? As you can tell we love our dogs and I just can’t expose them to this chemical that will kill them if they get exposed up to 4 times a year.

    We can ask for forgiveness for not being good stewards of what we have been given and how we treat each other. The earth and all that is in it is God’s and He is in control and this same God wants us to spend time with Him daily by reading His word, talking with Him and being thankful for what we do have and He will guide us as He has in the past to care for this earth and all that is in it.

    We also have to be aware of the heavens and all the trash that is floating around out there. Today His mercies are new and we have another chance to start again. Today is a gift that is why it is called the present and we have a choice as to how we are going to live it.

    MTman,It is hard to beleive that now a days when the government is talking so much about global warming and saving the planet that they have the nerve to turn around and use these dangerous chemicals along your road ways.Next after they spray they will say oops sorry now we have to raise your taxes.We made a big mistake and now we have to clean it up.If you Or I did something likke this we would be fined and probably be put in jail for a couple of years.I remember hearing about agent orange.There are two men that I know of that were in viet nam.They are pretty sick now because of that chemical.I thought they banned it.How are they getting away still using it.Keep doing what your doing to fight it.I will keep you in my prayers.The dogs will definately not be able to graze on the wild strawberies anymore.Is there anyone higher you can go to and complain? Are yor neighbors also helping you in this effort?

    Rick123 Thankyou for your post It brought tears to my eyes.I can’t wait for his return.But I know I have to be patient because there are still people that need to surrender there lives to Christ.Last night I read an article from Nathan E jones.He writes on end time prophecy.He was writing about all the news that is going on and how bible prophecy is being fullfilled at a fast and furious pace.He said it is simple over whelming and yet the ever increasing pace of end time events is itself a fullfillment of bible prophecy.During one of Jesus most detailed descriptions of what the world would experience before his imminent return Jesus stated in matthew24:8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.Birth pains increase with intenisty until he returns.At the overwhelming pace of end time events these days, the birth is about to occur.

    When I was a little tyke(3-5) I was short-sighted. Born and raised in a somewhat small town,and lived on a friendly street where everyone knew each other. To me, there was no other place in the world. I was unaware that there was any other place besides the house I lived in and the yard I played in. Although there were people that lived in all the houses on our street, I only knew them in the context of them coming to our house. I lived in a child’s world. When I started kindergarten I became aware that there were other children and families that lived in my little world and even though I didn’t know where they lived, I began to understand the nature of this place. My worldview was enlarged to include places and people that were invisible to me except when they were in my presence. I could think about them as though they were with me and I could share their existence without them actually being there, and that was a wonder that I didn’t quite understand. After all, I was 5 years old. Things more or less remained that way for the next few years even though older sisters and brothers took me places that were unknown to me up until then. They took me around the town I lived in and I was fascinated at the things I saw. But in a childs’ way there was no other place in the world but our town. I had heard my parents talk of where they were from(Texas), and how they had moved to California years ago(’36), but I had no idea that these places were a part of the world I lived in. They were somewhere else in my childs’ mind. Mind you, we’re talking about the 1950’s and we didn’t even have a TV yet. In school I would hear about the president or some other USA concern, but it didn’t really register that this world is a big place. I remember hearing about Kruschev in Russia in maybe ’57or8 and being suddenly aware that there were things that went on in this world that were not fun and games. Like a child thinks. In 3rd grade we began to study history and geography, and my little world became much larger. Even though I was still a little boy I could envision the world in its true light. A big place with lots and lots of people. It was at 9or10 that I began to take interest in other peoples and other places, and the world began to take on its’ true perspective. I was still just as fascinated and filled with wonder at God’s creation, but I began to be a user of his resources and not just an admirer. At 12 I began to hunt and fish, so I became a consumer of His provision. Being young, I was reckless and wanton when it came to these pursuits. I wanted to kill more birds or catch more fish to prove to my compatriots that I was skilled in my prowess. I had total disregard for the conservation of the targets I chose to kill, and would kill ducks and pheasants or quail when they were in their mating seasons or rearing stages. I was not mindful of the earth and it’s resource. I never killed an animal that I didn’t eat, but that doesn’t justify the way I pursued my pastime. In early adulthood I moved to another state(OR) and I began to utilize the game that was available in a conservative manner. Shot or caught only the limits, and never out of season. I remained a hunter and fisherman until I was 40. I didn’t discontinue these hobbies from a ecolo/enviro/conservation necessity, but from an economic standpoint. So that’s okay. Today being Earth Day I would only ask the populace this: Is it earth-friendly, environmentally-sound, ecologically -saving, and conservationally-conservative to stand under the banner of Earth Day and “yeah!yeah!yeah! I’m with you” while the rally at city hall is going on, and then leave the gathering in a gas-guzzling SUV that you bought with money you don’t have(credit card), to return to a home you can’t afford? Do you get what I’m saying about the bandwagons and the causes and the seemingly empty pursuit these things can be? And what a distraction they can be to the really important issues and concerns we’re faced with. Let’s be gentle in our consumption but be radical in our efforts. “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now we know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.” I Cor13:11,12 We can make the difference that needs to be made, but it’s so much more involved than just being supportive or showing up, or any of that superficial ‘look at me’ stuff that’s so popular these days. “When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed—Better not to vow than to vow and not pay.” Eccles 5:4,5 What is the point that I’m trying to drive home? It’s better to be active in your attempts and efforts to do what needs to be done than to be on all the committees and go to all the demonstrations as a show of support for that worthy cause. All those things are well and good for the stuffed-shirts of the world to stand around pattin’ each other on the back as the buuldozers wreak their havoc on the place.     laney: Thank you for your concern and prayers. The spraying is actually being done by the association I am a member of. There were two kinds of agent orange and only one was banned due to the very high dioxin it contained. The other is still on the market as potent as ever. To answer your third question I have no neighbor help as the other members are afraid of those who run our assoc. I do not fear those who can destroy the body, only those who destroy the soul, so I fight on alone.

    jay1: Dinosaur-like creatures are mentioned in the Bible. The Bible uses ancient names like “behemoth” and “tannin.” Behemoth means kingly, gigantic beasts. Tannin is a term which includes dragon-like animals and the great sea creatures such as whales, giant squids, and marine reptiles like the plesiosaurs that may have become extinct.

    The Bible’s best description of a dinosaur-like animal is recorded in Job chapter 40. “Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit. His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron. He ranks first among the works of God…” (Job 40:15-19).

    I am not for sure but it seems that before the flood would have been their time of existence when everything was running hay wire. Ken Ham has studied this and I have not read his work recently but he explains a lot about creationism and the dinosaurs.

    The question is: “Does ‘creation care’ have a place in the Christian life?” The premise in assuming ones response to be negative is considered, perhaps, attributable to our Christian belief that the Earth will pass away when the Lord returns. And so, the postulation goes something like this: ‘why bother?’ I cannot think of any line of thought that could be any farther removed from biblical reason.

    After all- our bodies are temporal, but no one doubts our spiritual duty in caring for this, ‘the temple of the Holy Spirit’ … so how much less the ground where that temple stands? And likewise, though we understand the ‘brick and mortar’ that are our church buildings to be places that will ‘also pass away,’ would anyone dare to presume that that makes structural ‘upkeep’ and ‘maintenance’ unnecessary? Of course not- and neither should we neglect anything else that might be used in the reflecting of God’s glory. And I’m pretty sure that the earth qualifies in that respect.

    Romans 1:20 is often quoted in response to the ‘Creation Care’ issue and I think it appropriate enough for repeating: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” NIV

    And another bit of verse comes to mind, though it is not so often quoted, is: “But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.” Job 12:7-10 KJV

    “… In whose hand is the soul of every living thing … ‘every’ living thing.” That’s grass and trees and things that crawl, fly, or swim. How dare we not care for all that our God has made?
