Waiting or Not Waiting

I’ve been sitting here for the last hour or so, sipping on a strong cup of coffee,  reading… and thinking about the thoughts and stories posted here over the last couple of days–by friends.

Most of us have never met each other face to face. Yet here, in thoughts typed thousands of miles apart, we each look at words that make sense, in part, because of the pain and longing of our own lives.

Most of us are waiting for something so important to us that we almost are  afraid to hope– for fear of being disappointed. Yet, we wait… in part because we don’t want to miss the miracle of being found– living by faith, today.

We’re not just waiting for Christmas. We’re waiting for God to do something that we can’t do for ourselves or for one another. At the very least– or most– we are waiting for Christ to be formed in us, and in those we love.

The Magi apparently had been waiting. So had Anna and Simeon. Now we wait… because we don’t want to be found not waiting. We don’t want a “no vacancy” sign to be found on the door of our hearts.

We wait because we want to be found believing the one who said, “Those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. They will rise on wings like eagles. They will run and not be weary. They will walk and not faint” (Isa 40:31).

If we could sit about the same coffee shop table this morning, I’m quite sure we would give one another reasons to believe that in waiting there is still hope. In many different ways we’d gently remind each other that– in not waiting there is a lost opportunity… to be found waiting… for the only one who deserves our trust.

And… even without that table… and before our prayers are answered in God’s time and wisdom… am guessing many of us would agree that we are already finding in one another… and in our Lord…what we could never have found… by throwing in the towel.

  1. mlj says:

Why do we hate to wait? It is so much a part of our existence. Is is merely just the battle with our selfish impatience or something deeper. Israel had been waiting for their Messiah for hundreds of years and when he came most missed it. Once Christ began his ministry, those who believed struggled with his not immediately delivering them from Roman oppression. Some recognized the immediate need for Spiritual deliverance over the physical others didn’t. As Christians we claim to understand that eternity is worth waiting for, but we still have trouble waiting.
I have always struggled with the question of am I supposed to wait on the Lord, or is he expecting me to take action with “what is in my hand”. We usually know that when we have done all we know to do, it’s often time to wait on Him or when we are acting in our own strength and not his. I want to please Him, I want to be obedient to what I know to do, and at the same time not be presumptious. But like Abraham, and a host of others, I struggle with if there is something else I am expected to do or if it is time to wait on God. As mere mortals, our sense of timeliness and fears plauge us. And maybe that’s a key, John tells us that there is no fear in God’s perfect love, so perhaps recognizing fear that God is going to be late is another indicator of being time to wait. When we feel pressed to act instead of wait, is it from a fear that God isn’t, won’t or hasn’t? Are we doubting his unfailing love? Even as I write this I struggle with things I have been “waiting” for God to do that I haven’t seen an answer to in 30 years of work. I’m not suggesting it’s easy, just something to consider.
May our loving Lord grant us the grace to wait on Him this season and here afterwards. The very best of gifts is very much worth the wait. Merry Christmas

mlj, well stated and I agree word for word.

All of my life I have been a man of action. When others did not stand, I would. I never took any struggle laying down but always stood up faced it and poured all my energies into solving them…

Then I was handed a struggle I cannot solve, I can only wait, believing God has placed us where we are and wants no action from me but faith.

This is not easy when I watch the suffering of one I love, unable to do little in relieving their situation.

Every instinct in me rises to the surface pushing me toward…doing something. When too often all I can do is weep inside, smile outside and pray continually.

Yes I too wait, sometimes wondering if I am the greatest fool of all….But when I am most often at my lowest point… God does something to encourage me. Without which I may fail to have faith enough to…wait.

He (God) is my strength, without Him I would not be able to endure for a night.

I pray all of you out here who struggle and are waiting on your miracle, are given the strength you need to also endure…

    Steve

Mlj, you just described so well how I have struggled with waiting, fear of not working for God. Slowly I am getting out of the fear. THe work I now do, is seeking God more often, from moment to moment. It is a habit that I develop, and the longer I do this, the more I sense the love of God.
The clue in waiting is in meeting God in the process.

Isa 40:31 is a beautifull verse,
    and so is
    Psalm 27:14
    Wait for the LORD;
    be strong and take heart
    and wait for the LORD.

While typing this I see that you need to be strong to wait.
Asking for strength to wait is a good advice.

(off topic this is the same comment as a few minutes ago, but is awaits moderation, probably because of the italics used)

The scripture of todays morning devotion of CH Spurgeon says:

  5. chfranke says:

    Hi all,
I don’t drink coffee but I brought my Monster to the table and I’m sipping on it.
When I think of waiting, I think of taking my car to the tire store to get new tires. You sit in the waiting room knowing that there is work going on someplace but you don’t know how long it will take. Every time a worker comes in from the garage area you hope that he has come for me. Often I am disappointed. They are working to balance the vehicle that will safely take me from place to place. Why does it take so long?
Right now my church is going through a re-balancing process and I am waiting. In September, our church of around 400 people switched from having two services (one Traditional service and one Contemporary service)to one “Unified” service. The church was involved and knew what was happening but the details of the “Unified” service were kept under wraps until September. We were waiting expectantly.
Well, the “Unified” service turned out to be the Contemporary service with all of the symbols of the Traditional service removed (no cross, no alter, no organ, no choir, no flags, a praise band that played music louder than ever and a darkened sanctuary). The focus was on drawing in young families, which we need to be doing. But, of course, the Traditional members were incensed. They had been part of the church for years and years (generations, even), now their vehicle for getting from Sunday to Sunday had giant, enormous front tires that were steering the vehicle with the small, driving wheels (the founders and funders) being dragged in the dust.
There was a big meeting with the denomination’s higher up at the end of November where all the concerns were expressed and we were promised that these issues would be addressed no later than the first of March.
Now we are waiting again to get our wheels back in line.
We’ve lost confidence in the process which makes the waiting worse because we’re worried about what kind of monster vehicle is going to show up next. Of course, many have given up waiting and left.
What is God doing back there? Why does it take so long?

I went from praying and seeing answers right away, then to praying and being told no, then praying and having to wait. Each phase seems to be are you sure you trust me from the Lord. The I began to pray only for God’s will to be done because it seemed the things I asked for may have been my will not God’s. The I started to be confused. Now I wonder at times and do not ask for many things but pray for others and I really do not know if I expect God to answer the way I pray or if He has something else in mind. I lift up the need to Him and tell Him I am OK with how He responds but in those secret places God knows that I am confused right now and really do not ask for the real desires of my heart because I do not know if they are His desires so I keep them in my secret place. I am not sure if in the waiting my desires are not changing and I do not really know what to pray for anymore although I have not given up on our conversations. I am more struggling with my desires or His desires which do I pray for. Do I come to a point where they become one? Am I supposed to not want anything anymore? I am confused and at times disappointed.

  7. oneg2dblu says:

chfranke… we all wait… we are all impatient and wanting it our way, the waiting seems forever!
We see the large tires, we are overcome by the noise they make, we are unbalanced by the speed of change, but WE MUST only be concerned about, “Who is the Driving Force of Our Vehicle, Church, Family, World!”
As long as it is Christ Centered, Christ Driven, and Christ Directed, the rest of the ride is secure, and all those on-board are Eternally Moving Foward. I say to my students on the bus, sit down and shut up, enjoy the ride, you’ll be home soon enough!
But of course they are human and impatient! They complain about the little things like the hard seats, the moldy smell, the noise, but it is only for a short time that they suffer, compared to Eternity.
So, I PRAY for them and for “all others” who wait… I say, Welcome Aboard, Enjoy the Ride, and get to know Who’s Driving, because your life “Is in His Hands!”
Have Yourself A Very Merry Christmas and Be Blessed!

  8. Mart De Haan says:

Our conversation today is raising an important point. Let’s continue to think through the difference between active and passive waiting.

  9. Jim Thompson says:

mlj said, “I have always struggled with the question of am I supposed to wait on the Lord, or is he expecting me to take action with ‘what is in my hand’.”

The answer is in both “working” and “waiting.” If I work with “what is in my hand,” AND wait on the Lord for results, as opposed to worrying about it, the two processes flow together as one, with the end of accomplishing God’s plan.

  10. chfranke says:

oneg2dblu–Your comments are very helpful and give me peace!! You have blessed me today. Merry Christmas to you and to all here.
    Chuck

  11. oneg2dblu says:

Poohpity… the Spirti that lives within you prays with groans that words cannot express, so God knows your heart as He knows all things, so we really can’t hide anything from Him. But, He also desires to hear our prayer voice for the very Spirit He has deposited in us, helps us to pray! I’m always confounded to know that before we can form the words with our mouths, He many times has already answered our prayers! What an Awesome God we serve! Our prayer words are our act of Worship as well as any other way we think we worship, He always hears us.
    Be Blessed!

  12. bubbles says:

It’s so wonderful to have a loving Heavenly Father who knows what is best for us, and doesn’t withhold from us.

One thing that has not been completely settled in my heart is right along this line of asking and wanting.

My desire is to please God. The story of the Israelites complaining because they wanted a king, and being given what they wanted (Saul) scares me. The “be careful what you ask for” seems to summarize that story.

There was that which I asked God for. The answer was/has not been yes. So, then, which is the answer? No or wait? I cannot discern which. I have asked for discernment. I do not feel like that has been answered either. Now, the problem is not that He has not said yes. But, if the answer is no, then I should stop asking. So, I have stopped asking not out of anger or frustration, but more out of confusion. God has blessed me with SO much. So, then I feel guilty because why should I ask more of Him? How can we differinate between no and wait? Maybe we are supposed to wait for that too.

  13. xrgarza says:

As I read all of your comments I am comforted to know that we all have the same questions and struggles about waiting. The one thing that I have learned through the years and the one thing that I am most certain of, in this life than anything else is this: “That I don’t have a clue”.

Mart as far as Passive and Active examples of waiting, I don’t want to be like a bump a log simply waiting, there has to be hope and expectation in my waiting. I need to be alert and aware of opportunities, if I’m not I could totally miss out on a blessing or an opportunity for others or myself.

About three years ago, I began to study and learn new things from the Bible that had never been taught at home, school, by my government, or even by my church.

I’ll try to share the facts of my personal waiting woes in a nutshell: In 1997, I remember being angry with God because I met a man that looked like a 40 y/o man who told me that he ran away from home when he was 12 y/o & hadn’t seen his mother since, then he tells me that he is only 24 y/o.

Why does this 24 y/o “kid” in essence look like a 40 y/o man I thought? In my back and forth with the Lord that night, I felt this strong conversation with my spirit and the Lord, I heard “you will be a father to the fatherless” to me that sounded like blasphemy, because the Bible tells me that You are the father to the fatherless I replied, only to get “exactly, and you are my child and you are following in my footsteps” I had no idea what that meant.

About a year later DADInternational was born, I was able to enter public schools as a motivational speaker encouraging students to seek mentors and higher education. It later became a non-profit organization, I was not able to raise a dime, and so it sits on the back burner today.

As my material world came crashing down after 911, I now wait because I know that God’s words do not return void. As I drive my truck 60 plus hours a week, exhausted as all can be, I am constantly looking for opportunities to share my heavenly father’s love with.

Knowing that I don’t want a hand out, but an opportunity, I wait on my Lord to open a door that I would recognize as an opportunity that will allow me to continue to support my daily needs without being a burden on anyone else and having the time and the energy and resources to help meet the needs of the fatherless that God has called me to.

    And so I Wait.

Merry Christmas and to all a Happy New Year!
    Rocky

Thank you for the feed back oneg2dblu but as I said I know God knows my secret places it is my desire to have His will done not mine. Hopefully my desires are becoming more one with His desires. It is a little disappointing to not get what we want as a spoiled child but I am becoming more attuned to the fact that only He truly knows what is best for me and letting go of self is sometimes difficult. It is a journey of learning about God and we each are on different times tables in the process.

I have seen people who wait on the Lord and give absolute credit to Him and I have seen those who pray for things and then go about trying to achieve the outcome on their own and guess who gets the credit.

  15. oneg2dblu says:

Christ being fully man and fully God, prayed to His Father, ” Your will be done… So, even this “sinless
servant” had His Father’s Will in mind, as being more perfect.
Our will, will always be tainted to some degree, for we being imperfect, want imperfect things, and the things we want will always have some of “us” in them. Including asking God to help “us” become more Christ-like.
Our nature is directly opposing to the spirit, and the spirit opposing to our nature. The conflict, is what it is, and only in our being transformed into our new heavenly bodies, will God fully correct that opposition. Willing or unwilling, we will oppose, by our corrupted nature.
Our only prayer should be, the Lord’s Prayer, “Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven….perfection!
I don’t know about passive and active waiting, for it is all against our will to wait, either way, God does give us the desires of our heart. His Gift, is in changing our wanter, not our impatient waiter, to become more like His Son. Amen?

  16. poohpity says:

oneg2dblu, I also wanted to let you know there are times when pat answers do not minister to a wounded soul. As Christians caregivers, which we all are hopefully, have to be very careful how we address some issues like sin in someones life or even about prayers that some may believe are not being answered. Let’s consider for instance Steve who has been praying for many years for the healing of his son and to be in the midst of the struggles he goes through and sees everyday that wound his very soul as a parent watching and caring for his daily needs. Steve doesn’t need someone telling him this or that he needs many to come along side him to encourage and show they care.

Or the people who have cancer who have been praying for healing as the cancer continues to eat through their flesh and into their brain. Knowing that many have prayed for them and that God answers prayers but you have to wait seems a little patronizing. Or the many parents on here who are going through struggles with their children being involved in drugs or the many other issues that we all go through that cause us maybe at times to doubt that our prayer are being heard. We can tell them that the bible says this or that but they want to know that it is alright to have doubts so they do not feel alone.

I do not think that any of us really knows the answers as to why some prayers are answered in the time frame they are or the answer maybe no. We have to be totally honest about the things we have concerns about and we do not have all the answers all the time but we can walk with someone through their struggles and then show then the love of Christ to bring comfort and encouragement.

I have the utmost respect and awe for people like Steve who wake up everyday in the fire and he never losses faith and just keeps on going. It is not just words with him he lives out his faith and cares for his family even while suffering his self. I think we have to be very careful how we answer the things that Mart gives us to think about because without thinking we may assume somethings without knowing the whole person and cause harm rather than helping and I am speaking to myself as well.

  17. scout1 says:

    Hello!

I really could relate with what mlj wrote. Thank you. Also, I agree with Jim Thompson – waiting and working are sometimes done at the same time. I’ve done lots of waiting. It’s funny how many things I waited for, just soooo sure that God would do a particular thing -at a particular time. And it has not happened that way at all. It was things that “I” thought made sense and “of course” God would see that too! But, here I am not at all where I thought I would be. God is in control. He has me right where He wants me. And because it doesn’t make sense to me -I must really be right where He wants. ;)

I guess the biggest fear I have for waiting is that I will step over God’s will and step out of His plan for me. I won’t be usable for Him. I will not be growing close to Him like I should.

Thank you for this blog site. I really appreciate the thoughts from everyone. I wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I look forward to the time we will spend together in heaven.

    Blessing and Warm Regards,
    Scout

  18. marma says:

Ever get the feeling that the Spirit of God is holding one big class and we are all in it?

I sometimes wonder especially when the messages and blogs and what others share goes right along with something I’ve been thinking about.

Reading in Hebrews 11 is a good reminder about how long the people of faith had to wait. God takes His time and does everything at the right time. In the present day we want everything fast–even spirituality. I have the Holy Spirit, yes, but I’m a slow learner!

Thinking back to Genesis and the promise of a savior made even then–so much happened and so much time past until the fulness of time came. Week after week and year after year, God’s people sacrificed animals the act of which looked forward to the ultimate sacrifice of God’s own Son. So many good reasons for God to wait when you look back and take an accounting of how the world was, where Israel was politically and spiritually, and many other things that came together to make the timing of Christ’s appearance perfect.

In our thinking about Christ’s first appearance, I think we tend to collapse time and not fully realize all the generations that came before and had to live life day after day looking forward, and how many didn’t see it in their lifetimes, but still waited n expectation.

Even Simeon and Anna it seemed were close to the end of their lives when Christ was born, and perhaps (probably) didn’t live to see the sacrifice and resurrection, either. They waited and were glad for what God revealed to them. They received an answer the needed from a God who loved to make it known to them, even if they didn’t get to witness everything in their lifetime.

One thing I know and want to share with all of you; God loves each of us very much and if we need to know something or something needs to happen, He who spared not His own Son, will freely give to us just what we need. Luke 11:11

May God bless you and give you all a wonderful Christmas with Christ at the center.

Marma, I agree with you, We humans think in earthly time, the more we grow in intimacy with God, the more we will see that He works in eternal time.I have heard that our prayers are being gathered together, and stay for ages, they are still precious and very effective. Revelation 8:1-5

I read it on the RBC site,Oswald Chambers devotional, that prayer is very effective work done for God, Intercession (I do not remember which date). So there have been many times that I felt worthless, then I would start praying, first to seek GOds face, and then to intercede, what ever comes to mind and I am convinced the HS brought it there.

  20. foreverblessed says:

    About waiting,
The book: God calling, by Two listeners, is very instructive for those christians who feel at the sidelines.
I found this book this year.
The waiting time is precious to God, He uses it to make a soul strong in the faith in Jesus.
Day after day God talks to the two listeners (two christian ladies who seek Gods face together every day) and reassures them how precious the time is that is seemingly worthless, and full of illness, pain, and lack of money. But God keeps them encouraged not to lose faith, and hold on,
they who overcome will inherit the Kingdom (Revelation 2:7,11, 17, 26 and 3:5,21 the
(you can read the book if you search on internet with: two listeners devotional or God calling.

  21. oneg2dblu says:

A farmer may plant his crop, but, he must wait for fruition to recieve, from that which he has sown.
We Christians are planted as well, with the Hope of Eternity. God is waiting with us, to come to fruition and recieve, that which He has sown in us.
We wait with Hope on Eternity, but in a place Christ calls today, He knows that we will have troubles in this world, which is not our eternal home but a temporary “waiting place,” as all His Creation,
    comes into His Fruition!
However, we can call today “blessed” as we call upon Him, and as our Faith matures it also produces for us, that which He grants us to recieve.
David waited… but he was also, ever looking up!
Be Blessed as we grow in Him today, through His Word and through prayers He plants in us.
Remeber the Words of Christ saying, “My time has not yet come.” Have a Blessed Christmas, knowing He also waits! Amen?

  22. pegramsdell says:

Oh, Mart. I love the sipping coffee. Just like I am right now. And the table and window. Wow! Thanks for taking me there. You are such a blessing in my life. So steady and strong and yet gentle. I thank God for you and for all the bloggers (my brothers and sisters in The Lord). This morning I feel like I’m waiting (can’t hardly) to see all of you face to face. To hug each other in a Godly embrace. To sip coffee together and talk and share and laugh and cry and pray. Yes, what a joyous day that will be. Merry Christmas! Love you all, Peggy

  23. BruceC says:

I wait for the answer to a very important prayer. I have prayed for the salvation of my family; most importantly my two older brothers. Many times I get discouraged; because of their lifestyle or unconcerned attitudes. But I keep praying…and waiting. I will do so until either my death or the rapture. My wife prays for her family the same way but she faces ridicule for her faith at the same time; making it difficult for her at times. And the ridicule comes from those that go to a “different church” that she left years ago after we were married. Sometimes the ridicule is more like persecution. After our marriage she began to have one miscarriage after another(ten all total) and wound up not being able to have children. Her Mom told her that “God was punishing her for leaving the church”. And even after that my wife still prays and waits years and years later; loving and praying for them all.
I know He hears our prayers and He answers all prayers. Some yes, some no, some wait.
The victory is sweeter when the battle is long and fought with faith and perserverance. Easy wins are never fully appreciated. So it is with our waiting and longing to be with the Lord. It is all in His timing.

    Merry CHRISTmas to all!

    BruceC
    Soli Deo Gloria!

  24. oneg2dblu says:

Phoopity… Yes, pat answers, or truth revealing statements, may not always be soothing to the wounded,
but if they are the “right perscripition” they will alawys aide in the healing process.
When God gives a word… it is not always well received,
but it is always valid, and never returns void!
My methodology may seem inappropriate for some at times, but sometimes if we waterdown things to make them more soothing, we delay the effectiveness of the cure.
A prophets message can be a harsh word too, but it must come forth when it is given, as it must be received if it is to be worthy.
Dliuted or partial delivery, does not give birth to the wholeness of the message, but rings gently upon the ears of those who desire to be so soothed by it.
Unfortunately, to the cursed the word is like a double edged sword, but it is also be a soothing balm to the blessed at times!
Like the compassionate dentist says, “I don’t have any novocaine today, but I have a more comfortable chair and can pull it more slowly if you prefere to pay extra!”
Yes, I feel for the wounded who need soothing carefully
crafted words of blessing upon their tender souls, and I trust that Our God Provides the perfect solution for them. As you site, it may not come through my given methods, but may require a more loving and genteel way
    as yours may deliver.
We are all one body, serving a common goal, for an Almighty God who uses even us! So, if one part hurts,
    we all hurt! Be Blessed!

    Good morning all,
I’m new here, but, I’ve been watching on the sidelines for a couple months. Waiting, shall we say? Every post has struck a cord in me and I feel honored or maybe even led by God to this site. Active or passive, I don’t know? Curious and interested, definitely. Prayers for all of us and to all a Merry Christmas. pjs

  26. poohpity says:

BruceC, I am sad that your wife had to go through that sort of condemnation from family while she was already experiencing the sadness of her continual losses. I think there are times when people feel that they themselves are the fourth person of the Trinity. It is wonderful that she looks to the Lord for comfort because at times people sometimes forget who they are at the foot of the Cross.

  27. Ted M. Gossard says:

Thanks, Mart. I really get a strong sense of the biblical meaning of “wait” here, one full of a hope that is living and simply awaits God’s promise in Jesus. Even when groaning as we do so. (Romans 8)

  28. bubbles says:

one2gdblu, just a thought. . .when we read how our Lord Jesus responded to others, we see Him speaking kindly to so many–two exceptions being the Pharisees and the money changers in the Temple. Look at how he handled the woman caught in the very act of adultery. He’s our ultimate example. He said nothing to her accusers, but wrote in the dirt.Apparently, the point was made dramatically. Yet, each time, Jesus spoke the truth without watering it down.

I have been blessed to be around those who were mature Christians who were in leadership positions. They were able to wisely get a point across with kindness.

Remember the saying about honey attracting more flies than vinegar? Many will respond better to us when some kindness, compassion, and tact are used rather than bluntness. I have to remind myself of this every day, and many times I fail in this area myself.

  29. pegramsdell says:

    Exactly, God is love.

  30. bubbles says:

Perhaps the 3:27 post I made was not loving or appropriate. It may not have been any of my business to comment on what has been previously said.
If I was in the wrong, please forgive what was posted.
    No harm was intended here.

  31. oneg2dblu says:

bubbles… thank you for your incite and willingness to soften what appears harsh, making the rough road level, and the journey easier. Always a challenge for me, for
my gifting strengths are in prophesying, or just passing on the truth. But apparently, not with the “taste of honey” applied, as others seem to be more inclined to do. It is sometimes difficult to tread
on softer ground, as it tends to give way, and actually makes it more work than being on firm standing.
My intention is “pointed for a purpose,” and not meant to hurt, as much as “shockingly prick the soul” of the recipient.
I know that smooth words can also move mountains, but I have “not been given” to worry about how my message
is recieved, but only that it is delivered. I leave the consecquences to God, and for my seemingly misunderstood intentions, that may not reveal “my hearts rented pleasure” to do God’s work, which comes before my ability to soften, for tough love is hard for all, and even the messenger must endure!
If I were given to know the hearts of my intented first, then what I do now would cease to be this hard, delivered, regardless messages, for I would be lost in working on my words more to please the reciever, and not so caught up in the broadcast of delivering!
Perhaps God is working through this very BLOG to bring about that which you, and others here find more desirous.
I will not harden my heart to correction, or bend
his message to make it more palettable, until He chooses to direct me to do so. I’ll pray about it
again, and leave it to Him who stirs my hand.
I trust this truth to be, not too harsh a reply, for
it is delivered. In His Love, GWW

Before my family begins to arrive shortly for this Christmas weekend, I thought I would just post my long awaited prayer request, and that is salvation for our 2 sons. One is 33 the other will be 35. It has been many years of prayer and much heartbreak along the way, but each day the Lord picks us up and helps us to wait. His ways are higher and His timing is perfect. We wait with great expectation to rejoice with the angels when our sons come back to the Lord.
Today I had a gift-an answered prayer about the young man (age 28) who use to be my student 20 years ago. He has found a place to live and will move in on the 1st of Jan. It is only a room, but he won’t be on the street (where he is living will be closing the first week of January). He is so thankful, and I am so delighted to see that it pleased the Lord to answer on this day. Great is His faithfulness!!
Merry Christmas to all of my brothers and sisters here on this wonderful blog!

That is really great news about your student and I am praising God with you, Della!!!:-) That was a short wait.
I will join in the prayers for your son’s salvation as well. Like those of us who have waited a long time for answers to our prayers we will help each other not to throw in the towel. :-)

  35. poohpity says:

Thanking God also that we have the truths found in His Word and the Holy Spirit who guides us into those truths with the understanding he gives each. Thankful for the Fruit of the Spirit to let each know how close we are remaining in Christ to have Him manifest Himself in us. Thankful that we do not have to wait for the Savior which we celebrate this season to bring Honor and Glory to God in the highest not to we ourselves.

    Wow
Just a check pointer I use whilst I wait on the Lord am I producing the fruit of the spirit in my relationships, Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Often times I have to go back on my knees to ask forgivness, and I praise Immanuel as he is still working on me…to make me what i ought to be…Thanks Mart your blog is a blessing Dear Steve will be praying for your son I have no answers but one day not in the distant future we can ask our Papa in heaven! Till then brothe promise to pray for you and will claim healing for your son, for I believe it is is not the diagnosis or the prognosis that we are healed in Jesus name Amen!

Welcome Aboard, Be Ready to be Blessed, for although
Mart has set this “table of sharing” befor us, as we each sip with Great Anticipation in the Waiting of that which will fill us to the Fullness of Joy, the arrival of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is already with us in Spirit, but coming again for us, to be a Holy and Perfected Bride, Merry Christmas to All…
To God Alone, be the Glory!

Merry Christmas Eve to one and all.
Just finishing up my first cup of coffee, Mart, and enjoying all of the posts as I do whenever I can. I pray as I read, and often the Lord brings some these requests to mind during the day, or night, for prayer.
Waiting…it just is. I’ve learned it doesn’t matter which line I get in at the store, I will have to wait. When I’ve told someone when to be ready, I’ll most likely have to wait. And one of the most common “waits” is for something I’m expecting my computer to do. Good times to pray, it fills the gap, and God is always “waiting” to hear from us. From His perspective the time element may be different, but how often His waiting goes without result. We are too busy, too sad, too unbelieving, too something. And gentleman that our Lord is, He waits patiently.
I find that the KJV word “long-suffering” better describes God’s waiting than any other.

Steve (W.Va), I was reading on Joni Eareckson Tada’s site yesterday and thought of your son’s struggles, and yours. God grant that Matt will receive joy in Christ in this life even though he is in dire circumstances. I had not realized that besides being in a wheelchair for over 40 years, Joni was fighting cancer. I don’t understand the grace she has been given, but pray Matt will receive it also.

I am still waiting for individual family members to come to Christ, but not with anxiety. I believe God will open their hearts, though I may not be around to see it. Well, not down here anyway. Acts 16-31 is a comfort when they frustrate me, and I have friends who have seen this verse happen in their families over long periods of time. So persevere, God is faithful.

Joy in Christ this Christmas, everyone.
Some mist and freezing rain here in KS, but not too cold. I think the snow went north of us.

Could all of you please pray?
One of my students lost his young grandma this week.
I went to the funeral last night. I held him and he cried and cried. This little fellow is heartbroken. My hair, neck, and coat were wet with his tears when I left him.
For the rest of his life, his Christmases will be different.
Could you please pray for him and his family?
    Thank you.

  42. poohpity says:

There were many in scripture who waited for the Lord to do things but yet went to sleep waiting for them to come to pass but their hope was in the Lord. I was comforted this morning while reading Habakkuk who was questioning God about the evil that seemed to be prevailing in his time and was waiting for God. While his heart was waiting he prayed; 3:17-19; Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
    though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

    19 The Sovereign LORD is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights.

Although we may be waiting on the answers to prayers we have confident hope in the Lord of our salvation and He will give us strength to endure the wait with joy and anticipation.

Praying for your student in this time of sadness and mourning, bubbles.

I wish you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a prosperous (blessed) New Year!:-)
I spent the evening and part of the morning at my sister’s home with my brothers and son for an evening of fellowship and fun, which is why I’m still awake after 3:00 am! We had Christmas Eve dinner, watched movies, and had good conversation. I hope you all will enjoy blessed fellowship, good conversation and fun with your families today.

Rainy and cold in Texas yesterday (40’s).
