What We Know and Don’t Know

P1010474_SnapseedIn the ongoing search for answers to what happened to Malaysian Flight 370 the plight of those waiting for word on the fate of their loved ones is reaching a new level of frustration, anger, and lingering hope.

Ships from several nations comb an ocean that, according to one source, is littered with 20 million tons of unrelated garbage— as planes and satellites offer images of debris that may or may not offer a clue to solving the mystery.

While many of us are forced to turn our eyes away to deal with the challenges and questions of our own lives, there is a sense in which any one story of a missing flight, tragic mudslide, earthquake, or flooding river is a picture of our own lives.

We all have lost something and someone. So, we are all facing personal issues of what we know and don’t know about the ongoing challenges to our own faith, hope, and love.

We may rightly or wrongly suspect that government officials, media spokespersons, or religious leaders are giving us misinformation to keep us from looking too closely at what they really know or don’t know.

But closer to home every story about someone else’s loss has a way of also being about us… what we know and don’t know— that will determine today where we choose to put our own faith, and find our own hope, in finding answers to deal with what has happened to whatever and whoever… we… have loved and lost.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERADo we sigh knowingly with the sage who wrote,  “Meaningless! Meaningless!” …”Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless” (Ecc 1:2)? Or do we recall when the same wise man once urged, “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart… and don’t lean on your own understanding… (Prov 3:5-7)…

    Good Morning Mart & Friends,

    I eschew opposites, those too-often-imposed either/or dichotomies.

So my answer to your last paragraph (uttered with a “knowing sigh”) is this:

“Meaningless! Meaningless! Trust in the Lord with all of your heart.”

It’s both, each rendered in its appropriate time.

For that’s what Ecclesiastes teaches, doesn’t it?

    There’s a time for everything.

And, right now, it’s breakfast time.

    My wife is waiting. :)

    Love to all,

    Bill

Good Morning Mart & Friends –

Mart, I agree that the tragedies of the world resonate with our own losses and grief. You wrote:

“But closer to home every story about someone else’s loss has a way of also being about us… what we know and don’t know— that will determine today where we choose to put our own faith, and find our own hope, in finding answers to deal with what has happened to whatever and whoever… we… have loved and lost.”

We live into a future that cannot be predicted – though we have wonderful assurances in the Lord Jesus.
As each day dawns, we choose once again, as you say, where to put our own faith. We also, experience a degree of compassion with the suffering peoples of the world. When loss comes, we weep and pray because we do know something about loss ourselves. We were created to live in community – and to help one another, in my view.

    Blessings,

    Good morning all!

As I was complaining to the Lord this morning about my recent losses He led me to Psalm 39. That put everything in perspective also. Pain and trials are not fun. But it is good to know that if we put our trust in Him daily, minute by minute, that He does understand and has our reward waiting for us.

Blessings to all who mourn today, Grace

  5. oneg2dblu says:

Good day all… (what we know,) strength for today, and (what we don’t know,) we can always have a great hope for tomorrow.
The God who gives us a glimpse of the Eternal, and the words that give us a peek, of the Gates of Heaven and Streets of Gold, also does not give us the hour or the day.
In the mystery of it all comes our life and the faith to believe that He alone knows or time and our place, and
Our Place, is to place Our Hope in Him.

This went on the Lost post. Please pray for a former student. The local news reports she has been missing from home since Wednesday night. Please pray for a safe return home. Thank you.

  7. foreverblessed says:

Yes Bubbles, I pray for her. And I thank God that you have such a great heart for your students, and former students! May God bless them all, and this one in particular now! That God blesses her with His Spirit of love, and His Spirit of Peace, wherever she is now too. May God be with her on her way home!

I can relate to both Bible verses for there have been times when I’ve wondered why I was born…and what purpose God had in mind when He created me?? And there have also been times when I’ve had to encourage myself when I was going through trials and tribulation because I didn’t trust anyone enough to share what I was really going through. Was thankful that someone (my Pastor, a fellow Christian, etc) shared Prov. 3:5-7 with me because there were times in my life (and even right now…though my situation is better) when I *desperately* needed God’s word as an anchor during the earthquake and storm situations going on in my life. God’s Word is a resting place for me and it provides immeasurable comfort and peace and I cannot imagine living in this world without it…I don’t want to live in this world without it.

  10. SFDBWV says:

If you did not believe in a conscious existence after life then your outlook on this life and your journey through it varies very differently than one who does.

Solomon had the luxury of being able not only to indulge himself with what life has to offer, but to be wise enough to recognize its variables as he observed it.

He observed that most people wasted their lives chasing things that had no lasting purpose and concluded that the fear of God and keeping of His commandments were the duty of man and that God would in the end of all things judge every work both evil and good. (Ecclesiastes 12:13, 14)

Every religious group believes their outlook on life is the right one and that everyone else is wrong.

With that view they believe they are all speaking for God, but leaving Him out of the conversation since His silence is a test of their *faith*.

For those of you who either didn’t know or care, the late Sammy Davis Jr. was so afraid of his eternal condition that he joined not only the Christian church, but also adopted the Jewish faith as well before his death; also the equally famous John Wayne joined the Catholic Church in the last months of his life.

These men, knowingly or unwittingly, feared God or perhaps better said feared God’s judgment and so tried to cover themselves just in case when they died they had to face God after all.

Life and its struggles produces two views, either there is a God or there is no God, only this life.

A life without belief in God is a hopeless life, left only to the circumstances of chance. A life of believing in God gives one some control over *chance* and hope of escape from all the unhappiness life will produce.

Your choice begins there and so also begins your education of who God is and what He wants from us and does for us ensues.

If you chose a hopeless life and circumstance and chance your will be a sad one, if you chose God then your life, while sad, will at least offer you hope even when all seems lost and “meaningless”.

  11. remarutho says:

    Good Morning BTA Friends –

It seems to me the “knowing” of the nature of being may be found through the “growing” acquaintance with the character and the mighty works of our Creator – Redeemer – and Sustainer God. The honored disciplines of spiritual devotion: prayer, Scripture reading and study, seeking the fellowship of the community of faith and doing good to and with others, bear fruit.

    Steve, you wrote:
“Your choice begins there and so also begins your education of who God is and what He wants from us and does for us ensues.”

The choice is day by day – even sometimes hour by hour. The only judgment that is useful, in my view, is self-assessment and comparison to the image of Jesus – and his surrender to the revealed will of his heavenly Father. In the face of great loss and the fear, anger and retaliation that accompany them, the source of assurance and peace is found in works of light – not in works of darkness.

Jesus is the Light of the world.

    Blessings,

  12. poohpity says:

Wow, what an emotional roller coaster this past weekend has been. After going in to a radiology place to hunt for the reason by foot is turning a dark purple since December they found a blood clot behind my right knee which they immediately sent me to the ER. Earlier that morning my hand dropped something it was holding without any effort on my part then the search started. The hunt through thousand of blood vessels in my brain for a tiny moving clot or broken blood vessel until they wanted me to go into a closed MRI after 2 Cat Scans. Then my claws came out I was adamant that I would not do it. I asked if the treatment was the same whether they found something or not and it seems it would be. What I feared is being closed in that tube and finding something that if it was lost, it could just stay lost.

Being confronted with truth often times means something must change in the way we are doing life. Do we hide our heads in the sand and act like nothing is there therefore do not change or do we have a personal resignation that it is time to do something differently?

Jack Nicholson said in a “Few Good Men”, “You want the truth, you can’t handle the truth”. That statement was talking about what the military could do behind the backs of the citizens which also is what our government does in withholding truth. Do we really want to know the truth about everything and if we do could we handle it?

I believe God is so patient with us that He reveals the truths we can handle, at a pace we can handle as to not overwhelm us especially as we look within at the brokenness of our lives. Who would have thought that our oceans are filled with 20 million tons of trash but when one thinks about it look at what we especially in the USA throw out everyday it has to go somewhere. Awareness is bringing it to light then that means we have a responsibility to do something or go back to not thinking about it again(denial) thus we do not do anything.

  13. remarutho says:

    Dear Pooh —

What a great blessing the clot manifested in the foot, not in the brain. Prayers going up over here for the diagnosis and treatment that will do the most healing and repair in your body. You are

God’s provision in shielding our hearts and minds from the immensity of “total knowing” is a great gift, it seems to me. We could not take looking at the universe through God’s eyes full-on and unfiltered. Perhaps today, if not any other day, we can face the truth we know — and entrust to our Savior the truth we don’t.

    Yours,
    Maru

  15. quietgrace says:

Pooh so sorry for what you went through this weekend. You are right-we don’t often what to know everything about ourselves or our world as it can be too much bear alone.
Praise God He has not left us alone without intercessors to bear our burdens when they overwhelm us.
My favorite prayer is the Serenity prayer. I bet it’s on your list of favorites also. Praying for you!
    Love, Grace

  16. SFDBWV says:

Pooh I have read your comment several times and I have missed whether or not you consented to the MRI?

I am sure by now they have put you on a blood thinner of some type?

From what I know of blood clots in the legs they usually move on to the lungs or heart and do quite the damage when they get there. I have never heard of a blood clot moving to the brain from a leg, but I am not a doctor. My father and older brother both suffered multiple blood clot issues in the lungs. There is also two different types of clots in the legs the ones on the surface aren’t as dangerous as the deep ones down next to the bone that hurt like heck but usually flow on to either the heart or lungs.

Praying you find the problem and get it fixed.

    Steve

  17. poohpity says:

Steve, no I chickened out. Yes I have been on blood thinners in the hospital by shots in the abdomen and now orally. It is a DVT. I have been so sedentary over this last year but it has pushed me to get out walk more and the blood thinners have already helped the swelling in my legs.

Thank all of you so very much for the concern and prayers that matters so much to me, more than you will ever know. Thank you!

  18. oneg2dblu says:

pooh… sounds pretty gruesome, purple feet, blood clots, cat scans, almost a trip back through the electronic birth canal or enclosed MRI, and then blood thinners.
The leg thinners are the only plus sounding thing on that menu, so, I’ll take a pair to go. :)

Prayers for some real resolve with those issues and success in trying to be a little more active.

I say a “little more” because I trust in the ten percent rule which when applied helps us all avoid any possible overuse injury.

So, if you normally walk ten minutes a day and you want to increase the amount without any risk, walk eleven minutes, for a week. Then add another ten percent.

But, If you walk ten minutes a day and suddenly start trying to walk two hours a day, you have violated that basic protective rule and might be subject to some sort of injury.

Most people can increase their existing level by ten percent and the body adapts quite easily without any over stressing and complaining.

I don’t always practice what I preach, so I’ve had to learn and befriend the another basic rule when the body complains, give it RICE.

    Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate.

Works with the feet and other extremities much better than the tongue though. :0

So, I’ll stop flexing mine now while I’m ahead of the pain.

    Oh, and one more thing…”Heal!”

  19. Regina says:

    Good Evening All,

Pooh, I’ll add your health issues to my prayer list too. Are your blood clots on the mend now?

  21. cbrown says:

Pooh, I am praying for you as well. Wanted to share a brief testimony of lasts nights prison ministry. The pastor who leads our team had the blessing of leading a 81 year old man, who has been in prison for 50 years to Christ. One of the other mentors shared with an inmate 2 weeks ago and when we arrived that inmate came to him and told him that after we had left he got down on his knees and accepted Christ as his Savior. There was much rejoicing last night in heaven and on earth.

  22. poohpity says:

cbrown, I will join in the rejoicing. It is so exciting to witness those who answer the Lord’s invitation to partake in His awesome love.

Gary, thank you for the wisdom.

Mart, is it just my computer but I can not listen to DTW? Did I miss something but I did not get the monthly article either. :-(

  23. cbrown says:

Pooh, I was not able to get to days DTW add just now it came on.

  24. poohpity says:

TY cbrown. What a very good topic.

It seems we are given so much to know yet we seek answers for those things we do not know so we can guess, assume, and created a world that we would like to make into something of our imaginations. We believe people, media, governments employees that have not proved they deserve our most prized commodity, trust. I wonder if it is due to laziness in fact finding or oppression of thoughts and freedom to think for ourselves rather than what we are taught to think.

  25. quietgrace says:

    cbrown,
So great to hear about the 81 year old fellow that accepted Christ! As part of a national prayer team for prisoners I don’t often hear about answers to prayer. It’s so good to hear! This testimony has been very encouraging. Blessings, Grace

cbrown I like reading your testimony updates. Keep them coming!

Bubbles I am so thankful that your former student has been found!

  27. SFDBWV says:

Yesterday’s news of flight 370 reminded me of the important part of hearing something said as opposed to only reading it.

The matter is greatly exposed here amongst we bloggers as too often the emotion of what is written cannot be transcribed. Sometimes the simple tone of one’s voice gives a word or phrase an entire different meaning.

The matter is greatly present and so often misinterpreted in Scripture as well.

In the matter of flight 370 “Good night Malaysian 370” could be interpreted in two very different meanings. Either “Good night” followed by identification of the messenger as being “Malaysian 370, or “Good night” to “Malaysian 370”.

In the matter of Scripture with the missing tones and emotions of voice we are left to put our own spin on what we are reading and sometimes go off too quickly believing what we think is being said only to have someone else’s opinion clash with ours.

Which leads me to understand just how important it is to diligently search for the truth in Scripture as we see these people scour the southern ocean for any scrap of evidence to find the truth of flight 370.

    Steve

  28. oneg2dblu says:

Good day all… When we are leaning on the truth alone we are fully protected.

But many times instead we prefer the crutch of our own understanding or our beloved opinions, or the well crafted words from another worldly being that ring in our heads, even from a trusted pastor who can easily persuade us, or even unwittingly deceive us.

Only when we call upon the Lord to, Open us to the Heart with His double-edged sword, and speak to that fresh weeping openness He creates, do we allow His Word alone to penetrate our very being.

We can not bring the cares off this world into that place where He alone must do His work in us.

Ask Him to help us lay aside even for a moment, all the distractions of the world around us, the world that already has infected us, and find anew a fully penetrating truth revealed that would be been overlooked, been hidden, or gone unheard, or even unbelieved or confused, even by others. but let us now be set apart by Him, where His word is being highlighted by Him who already knows the very moment of our need.

That is where He awaits, where He comforts, where He completes His perfect work, His heart surgery.

He alone has the Divine Hands of the Master Physician.

Be alone with Him in His word, be His alone.

    Be Blessed,
    Gary

  29. quietgrace says:

    Good morning friends!

Beautifully spoken Gary, you made me smile this morning.

Discover the Word today was also beautiful as it speaks to mine and I’m sure many other’s situations. There really is such peace in letting-go of our loved ones that need more than we can give them. The peace comes in knowing that they are in the hands of the God of the universe who knows what we need and loves us for our good-loves us ALL through the valley’s and dark times.

May the God of peace fill you all with peace today.
    Blessings, Grace

  30. poohpity says:

As we each are faced with the personal challenges in our own lives that double edged sword is used to root out the true condition of each of our own hearts.(Heb 4:12 NIV) It is only when we come face to face with who we each are do we see our need for what the Lord offers us. Coming to realize how we are so bent on rebellion do we look for the solution found in the Cross. What gives us the right to demand perfection or true obedience from others yet fail so miserably in our own life? Sometimes I think it causes so much pain and fear to venture inward that we just stop trying and I think that may be the biggest reason people neglect reading God’s Word because we come face to face with who we really are.

What we know is that we really do not want to know because the mask of strength, independence, self righteousness will hit us smack dab in the face and show us we are weak, broken and in need.

  31. lovely says:

Indeed We fear when we don’t know things. Its hard to think that there is a possibility that a love one may be still out there. Who could have known this will happen. Even if you do what could have been done to stop this?
People react in frustration and anger when there is a situation they can’t control. Therefore we need a God who is in control. Job 37:5 God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. Just like the tower of Babel, Men strength and knowledge have a limit. Job 37:16 Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?
Unlike the plane that is lost and still to be found , The Lord promise if we search Him He will be found by us Deuteronomy 4:29

Steve you’re right about how important it is to diligently search for the truth in Scripture . But more importantly we need to know the creator. The Jews in
John 5:39 They were diligently studying the scripture but not really knowing the Lord. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life.41 “I do not accept glory from human beings, 42 but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.
Still a mystery to me as how can someone study so much and yet not know who the writer is
We can’t trust someone we don’t know . So if we don’t know God . we can’t trust Him

    Lovely

  32. cbrown says:

Lovely, thank you for the above post. I did a search in the New Testament for the word “ask” and the following verse came up.Mathew 7:7 “[c]Ask, and it will be given to you; [d]seek, and you will find; [e]knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you [f]who, when his son asks for a loaf, [g]will give him a stone? 10 Or [h]if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!”

  33. poohpity says:

That seems so true God knows the heart of those who truly seek after Him and it is like He is so excited when we desire to know Him above all else. He seems to say trust Me not blindly but with all the information and creation itself He has provided to learn about His heart which is so compassionate and merciful. That does not mean we will have a life free from suffering, trials, tribulations or sorrows it means to me that He will give us strength to go through, over, under, around all that we are confronted with, coming out the other side having more faith, hope and trust.

It seems like when we trust so much in ourselves or other people we do not grow in dependence or learn to trust but God is standing by when we decide to let go or in other words die to self. How can we change the “Don’t Know” into “What We Know” if we never give God the chance to show us.

  34. poohpity says:

When I look at that MRI machine and realize I failed to trust God even after I have trusted in so many other areas I felt brokenhearted. Then it seems like every thing I read or listen to has let me know that it is a process of learning to trust and God never gives up on me/us. Praise God!

  35. cbrown says:

Quietgrace, and whosoever please pray for outreaches to prisons Cood Friday and the Saturday before Easter. Many prison ministries will be going into institutions those two days to share the Gospel(Good News).

  36. cbrown says:

    “Good Friday”

  37. oneg2dblu says:

    pooh.. great thoughts.
My sister had to face the MRI and found its restrictiveness overwhelming to the point of making them take her out.
After a few moments of gathering herself, a coming to her senses, see took the Lord with her and got through it just fine.
I’m sure that tested her flesh first and she failed, then when her faith kicked in and gave her victory, that made her stronger for the next testing.
I found out the hard way that my flesh was not to be trusted in very close places when I flipped out finding I could not take a breath large enough to even cough after inhaling some dust when I was inside a very tight section of a boiler called the mud drum, which was all the way in the bottom of a ship.
So, I’ve been there done that, failed in the flesh.

In this case I too found out What I did not know, a fear beyond anything I had previously encountered, within that tight space, and that is, What I do know now, having failed to maintain my flesh.

That was a test I will never want to go through alone, or without Him again, and I Thank God that today I don’t have too.

Christ can be found in our darkest valley and on our highest mountain top, and He is willing to Help us through our every need.

Failure is not an option when Faith in the Lord finds its overcoming power to absolve our fleshly fear.

But, I’m not speaking of that divinely given healthy Fear of the Lord which is part of the awakened spirit, the new life found in every Christ Follower, and not yet part of the worldly failing flesh response of fallen man.
Because we are not to fear one who can only kill the flesh, but we are to fear the one who has the power over death, and Our Soul for Eternity.
    Gary

  38. poohpity says:

Gary, I must be in deep trouble because I fail many times. Failure is one of the many things I learn from and it seems to be what helps me understand grace so well.

  39. lovely says:

cbrown thank you so much for those verses. GOod reminder of how much our Father love us. May God show His love through you in the prison ministry during easter. Gary That’s great that God has brought you through in the darkest valley and the highest mountain , May god bring you up from strength to strength Psalm 84:7 .Poohpity, God uses failures and turn it to fulfil His purpose if we let Him. Moses-murderer, Peter denied Jesus 3 times, Paul persecuted Christians. David – Committed adultery . Despite their failures, God uses all these men mightily
    lovely

  40. oneg2dblu says:

pooh… yes in the flesh you and all of us have failed many times.
But in our faith we stand as unmolested by failures, only tested by them to find that even in our worst of times, our faith remains, as we are forever His!
So, even death can not take away our faith in Him.
Failure is not an option where our faith remains…

  41. oneg2dblu says:

We need only to keep the faith and having found it remains in spite of failure, we can give all the failures to Him who keeps us from falling. Him who dusts us off when we do slip, cleans our wounds and makes us whole again.

Jeremiah 8:22 “Is there no balm in Gilead?
    Is there no physician there?
Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?”

Jeremiah 9:23,24 “This is what the Lord says:
“Let not wise men boast of their wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this:
that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight, declares the Lord.”

What we know and what we don’t know, can both be found in His Word.
    Gary

  42. poohpity says:

Gary, so are you saying that nothing can separate us from the love of God? Once we are His, we are always His? Sounds a lot like OSAS.

  43. quietgrace says:

    cbrown-
Which prison do you work at? To me nothing is chance and would like to be praying for you specifically.

I watch Lockup occasionally just to get a feel for what prison life is like so I can pray more specifically-it is such a different culture and from what I can tell each prison is different.

God bless you in the hands-on work you are doing.

By his great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and to an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
In this you rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire, may redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Facing backward, it seems to me, is to embrace death and decay. Facing forward is to embrace life.

    Blessings,
    Maru

Maru your post is very timely for me today. I just finished listening to Emerson Eggerich talk about respect within the family, and also how God does not hold us accountable for our children getting saved, only for loving them. Looking back I have been feeling so badly for the wrongs I did in parenting my children, and for how they have turned out, but, I did love them and they being adults have their own choices to make about God, and, whether they respect me or not. Well, I am going to face forward for a change and live! Your last sentence really stirs me. Thank you for posting!

pooh… I think what I was saying is, as long as we keep the faith, and we continue to believe, we continue Following Christ and not turn away, as the disciples in John 6:66, then we are still trusting and still placing our hope in him, and walking in the right direction, which is staying within the Will of God.

I believe that God’s love reaches far beyond our understanding of love, because He also loved those who He exercised His Wrath upon in the flood, did He not?

Not to mention all the other parts of scripture where His Justice prevails as His Wrath comes upon many.

Both of which are forms of love we can not understand.

So we come up with more satisfying places to take our minds, which define love in our terms, saying things like, “We can never out sin the love of God,” nor walk away from it claiming our salvation as being OSAS.

But, that is not what I am talking about here, I’m only responding to what you are asking.

Faith and Love are two very different words, with much different understanding attached to them.

Both are equated to being only a part of the whole of this word of Salvation.

We can easily confuse them to fit our needs saying that a loving God would ultimately save everyone.

But, the bible story does not support that premise without presenting much confusion.

Peace and Joy be with you Grace!

The greatest thing is love, isn’t it? From the family stories, I understand that my Uncle Herschel was Grandma Ruth’s “wild child.” Of all her kids who went to war, she believed Herschel was bullet-proof and sure to return home safe and sound. It didn’t happen.

As you so wisely say, you love them. What more is a mom to do? I can name quickly a handful of kids who were “churched” all their young lives — went to Christian Youth Camp — went out on missions — who now do not live for the Lord and whose faith is wrecked.

I also know a bunch of adults who never went to church — grew up without the Bible, camp or strong youth leaders who now serve the Lord and his Church. Their witness is strong and alive. Nobody can make that call!

It seems to me we may answer the call to prayer — with full confidence that God uses those prayers in ways we cannot know. He doesn’t waste anything that is faithful. May He richly bless your devotion.

Quietgrace,Have you been listening to the Discover the Word series this week. It is dealing with Broken Beauty, the family and is very good. Due to the Spiritual battle that is waged at our prisons I do not think it wise to be specific on a public forum but your prayers and the prayers of your National prayer team are answered daily. I have a son in a minimum security prison so the DTW series is helping me alot. Love in Christ, Chris

  49. quietgrace says:

Maru and Chris yes I have been listening also to DTW and it is sooo good also! God has, as usual, surrounded me with encouragers and I am so very grateful for His faithfulness on my journey.
    Be blessed, Grace

What we do know is that God took out His wrath on mankind by the stripes and crucifixion of Jesus. Jesus paid the penalty for the sin of world. Those who died before Jesus and those who came after. The sad part seems to be that we don’t know or will not accept the brokenness which keeps us in the place of humility.

“What we know and what we don’t know.”

Glenna came home from the store yesterday and showed me a little 40 watt light bulb she bought for our ceiling light, it cost nearly eight dollars ($8.00) for one little 40 watt light bulb.

She bought the last remaining 60 watt light bulbs Lowes had and was told they will no longer stock them.

This morning I read in the news that Obama wants now to impose EPA regulations on wood stoves in people’s homes.

Nimrod and the people who flourished following the flood of Noah thought they could outwit God and build a tower that reached above the flood level and so survive the next disaster.

    God interacted.

The people most of you elected into a position of ruling over you think they can change the climate of the world by their action and so are building another tower in the name of “saving the earth”.

    God will interact.

The spiritual climate of the world is changing and we all feel it; which side of the line are you on? The side who thinks they can and should control every aspect of life on planet earth or the side who gives control to and trusts that to God while giving freedom to people to do so?

God is filling an Ark again, pray that you are on the passenger list.

Yes indeed Pooh, to concentrate on what we do know:
All the sins of man was laid on Jesus, and God turned His back on Jesus, because of our sins. All the wrath of God was taken in by Jesus.
In faith in Him we are free! We are forgiven! We are clean and white, because of Jesus!
That is what we DO know, and as Jesus told us, as we have been forgiven, so should we forgive our fellow man. That is also what we do know!
If we would live like that, if we would trust in GOd more that the Holy Spirit in us will perform this work in us, if we look at ourselves we fail. O, that we would have more faith in God, and let the Spirit of Jesus do the work in us!

  53. foreverblessed says:

If Mart allows me, here is the God at eventide of April 5, which also talks of the role of God, through the Holy Spirit in our lives:
-Agony and heartache, pain and loneliness, such as no human being has ever known, were the price of your redemption.

Truly you are not your own.

You are bought with the price. You belong to Me.

You are Mine to use, Mine to love, Mine to provide for.

Man does not understand the infinite Love of the Divine. Man teaches that as I bought him, so he has to serve, obey, and live for me.

He fails to understand that because he is Mine, bought by Me, it is My responsibility to supply his every need. His part is to realize My ownership and to claim My Love and Power.

Just saw the news of the Chinese ship that has picked up an underwater ping that may or may not be linked to flight 370. Once again we’ll wait for an answer. Thanks for all of the conversation and thoughts for one another. Will try to get up a new post tomorrow morning.

  55. quietgrace says:

    Good morning all!

Woke up this morning with this thought on my mind, that today I look forward to a future of positivity, grace, love, joy, peace etc etc in the eternal presence of God and that no matter what happens today, whether I live, die, or suffer horrible calamity it is well with my soul.

Whatever the outcome of flight 370 we and those who’s citizenship is in heaven can be assured that Christ’s death was NOT in vain and we will all be greeted by those nail-scarred hands with great joy, along with a great cloud of witnesses that have gone before, all with joy filled faces.

    Be prayerful, always.
    Blessings, Grace

  56. SFDBWV says:

Well Mart while looking over the news that a Chinese ship may or may not have picked up a ping from the missing airplane, did you notice that authorities in Pakistan have charged a nine month old baby with planning murder, threatening police and interfering in state affairs?

Any question whether or not the world is in a spiral of moral decay and insanity or where it will conclude?

  57. oneg2dblu says:

Mart, thanks for showing up for work, because God Blesses all those who show up and do the work they are hired to do.

There is a resounding “ping” in God’s word that is too many times dismissed by some form of deception, or other noises that crowd it out as it plays only to one side of every story, it plays only to God’s love and yet ignores the other side, that God’s love gives choice to allow any man to walk away.

I knew when I read today’s Two Listeners that foreverblessed would probably bring that message to light, and I bless her for her sharing it. Thank you.

What I also know that would probably go unseen and go unmentioned by many is the hidden fact found in today’s ODB that has to do with the hiring, and the payment given to the workers.

Actually two things, one, they made themselves were seekers available for hire, they sought work out because they showed up to work.

Second, they actually “were hired” and they did report and actually “did the work” they were given.

They all deserved their payment as well because they acted upon the hiring and fulfilled their contract with their employer.

You see there is an “accountability issue” here that constantly goes against the grain for many who believe
    otherwise.

The employer did not ride through the town casting his wages everywhere as payment for all, He only paid those whom He had a hiring relationship with, and only those who worked for Him.

That “required a work element” which is considered as poison to certain teachings, is there to be found, but only by those who will accept the work to find it.

Yes, by His stripes we are healed, we are forgiven.

But not all are hired or automatically paid because the Employer took upon Himself the occupation of also being the a very fair contract honoring employer.

Those who turned and walked away after their hiring were not at the payer’s table with their hands out begging for what they dod not deserve, but only those who showed up were receiving what they worked for, their wages.

Those who are hired, but then do not show up for work, they break the contract and their fair wages are given them as well, but it comes in a much different form, called separation, even though the employer may love all people, He will not treat all people the same, but how He treats those who have shown up, is all we see in the story, and many were disgruntled, misinformed, even deceived by their own selfish thinking, saying, “I deserve more.”

To whom much is given, much is expected!
To whom is given little, if they show up and do the little, then they are also rewarded.

We that are hired through the contract of relationship with Christ have a work to do.

But having any type of work mentality today, it can not be received by many who have been taught otherwise.

So, we now still stand as one body of believers divided by this honorable contract filling word called work!

Once hired is never should become a life time of receiving payment, for anything other than that day’s work.

We stand at the payer’s table demanding our wages for what we do not deserve, that is what “works” for many today.

The Great Commission in that world, of constant receiving, goes without all the workers working, yet the fields are ripe for harvest.

I pray that the workers report for duty and fulfill the contract that “is” in God’s word.

    Be Blessed, Gary

  58. oneg2dblu says:

Sorry. I moved words around and ended up with this,
“Actually two things, one, they (made themselves) were seekers available for hire, they sought work out because they showed up to…

Please remit those ( ) words, as none of us have made ourselves!

  59. oneg2dblu says:

Also, my typo “dod” is not a word that I can decipher, but it is apparently acceptable in some formats.

I’m not text savvy, so it may well be a perfectly fitting mistake.

  60. poohpity says:

Mart, looking forward to your next post, as always, to give us something to think about. Sharing light on this darkened world.

  61. poohpity says:

Gary , no truer words have I ever heard you utter than “I’m not text savvy”. That is a basis to start God’s Divine work in the heart of any believer. What we know is that we don’t know.

  62. foreverblessed says:

Thank you very very much Grace, that warmed my heart, what a positive outcome all will be!
All is well with my soul.
(am still working with (meditating upon) Psalm 39, thanks for guiding me there)

  63. poohpity says:

Everything in this life is meaningless with the exception of knowing Christ and in that knowing coming to a place of complete trust in God alone. Pakistani couple get death sentences for blasphemy
Human rights groups say Pakistan’s blasphemy laws are often used to target minorities, including Christians
A Pakistani Christian couple have been sentenced to death for blasphemy after allegedly sending a text message insulting the Prophet Muhammad.
The couple, named as Shafqat Emmanuel and Shagufta Kausar, were found guilty of sending the text message to the imam of their local mosque.
Allegations of blasphemy against Islam are taken very seriously in Pakistan.
Several recent cases have prompted international concern about the application of blasphemy laws.
The imam brought a complaint against the couple last July.
The couple’s lawyer told the BBC he would appeal against the sentences and said the trial had not been conducted fairly.
Pakistan has a de fact moratorium on the death penalty so it is unlikely the couple will be executed.
They come from the town of Gojra in Punjab, previously the scene of communal violence.
In 2009 the rumored desecration of a copy of the Koran led to a mob burning nearly 40 houses and a church in Gojra. At least eight members of Christian community died in the violence.
    Minorities targeted
Since the 1990s, scores of Christians have been convicted for desecrating the Koran or blaspheming against the Prophet Mohammed.
While most of them have been sentenced to death by the lower courts, many sentences have been overturned due to lack of evidence.
Critics argue that Pakistan’s blasphemy laws are frequently misused to settle personal scores and that members of minority groups are also unfairly targeted.
Muslims constitute a majority of those prosecuted, followed by the minority Ahmadi community.
In 2012 the arrest of a young Christian girl, Rimsha Masih, on blasphemy charges provoked international outrage. After being detained in a high security prison for several weeks she was eventually released and her family subsequently fled to Canada.

There are more *pings* going on in the world if we only will listen.

    Steve

  65. poohpity says:

The only ping we need to heed or listen for is the voice of our Redeemer. The further away from Him we become the ping becomes weaker but as we grow closer the stronger it gets. The further away from Him the more aware of the wrongs of others while the closer we get to the Lord the more aware we become of our own wrongs.

  66. poohpity says:

The Holy Spirit is the ping God has planted and sealed in our lives and God never loses track of us even when we wonder away from Him.

  67. quietgrace says:

Pooh isn’t that such a wonderful thing knowing that God never looses track of us, whether we ‘wonder’ OR ‘wander’ away from Him. He is faithful, it is we who choose to keep going on or not. But you know that. Thanks for the analogy of the ping/HS within. Hope your day is relaxing and blessed. Grace

  68. poohpity says:

lol! I had meant wander but wonder can work as well, lol.

  69. foreverblessed says:

Hello Gary, I do not get a word of what you wrote. Just knowing that God is doing the work in me, by the Holy Spirit. I am not working, the Holy SPirit is working in me, it is what Cbrown said: ask, receive, knock. It is true we have to ask, and recieve as little children, we are to become like little children, as meek person, totally humble, poor in spirit (meaning knowing that our own work is nothing).
If that is what you call “work” then we are at the same level. But it is God who does the willing and the working in me Phil 2:13
And if I surrender to Jesus, all to Jesus I surrender all to Him I freely give, I will ever love and trust Him, in His presence daily live
I surrender all, I surrender all, all to Thee my blessed Savior, I surrender all
If I do that, then God can work in me, even the work that I will do, He arranges it Eph 2:9-10.
If that is what you call “work” it is OK
We surrendering and asking, knocking, again asking God to provide all we need: faith, peace, longsuffering, patience, love, moderance, Gal 5:22-23

  70. foreverblessed says:

Even the work we do, God has a say in it. Maru said this morning, pray for one another, pray a lot.
God is waiting for our prayers. I had just read that, then during the morning my husband was telling my son about a man they both know, that he has cancer, a lymphatic type. And then something happened: It is as if God was saying to me:
Now, what do you ask of Me: Ask!
So I started praying and praying, Num 6:24-26
Bless God, He arranged this, He is so loveable, He is waiting for our prayers, the God who made heaven and earth, is meek and humble, and waits for us. Not only that, He arranges our growth so we will become pliable in His Hands! He is the Arranger, He is our all in all, He is our Hope.

  71. quietgrace says:

Foreverblessed it is good to ask of God as He does want to hear from us and for us to intercede for one another and the world! When I hear or see an accident, I pray. When I hear or see an ambulance, I pray. I sometimes have to turn off the news as the burden to pray is exhausting, but so glad you prayed for your husband’s friend, what a friend you are also!
I thank God for you and your ministry to the Lord.
    Blessings, Grace

  72. poohpity says:

forever, I believe Gary was speaking of the ODB devotion for today regarding the parable Jesus used to explain the kingdom of God by the hired workers. It seems to be emphasizing that all receive the same wage of eternity with the Lord whether it being from their youth or coming to believe in the end of their life.

  73. poohpity says:

None of us deserve the grace God offers.
