The Cup Jesus Drank for Us

DSC01178 (3)As we think together about how our Lord suffered in our behalf, let’s reflect again, as thoughtfully and reverently as we can, about what he was suffering.

In Jesus’ sin offering and sacrificial death for us… as he drank the cup giving to him by his Father… do we know what was in the cup (Luke 22:42)? Was it the cup of his Father’s wrath? Or was it the full cup of suffering— the ultimate consequence of our rebellion…so that we could hear the Lamb say, “Father forgive them… they don’t know what they are doing?”

How much is to be risked or gained by wondering whether the cup Jesus drank for us was the full measure of the blind fear and rage of our rebellion— so that our God could show us how much he loves us, and what he is willing to forgive?

Good day to all… I believe no one will ever know what was in that cup. However, I know what my relationship with Jesus and God has done for me. Blessings to Mart, his family, and all the readers.

For myself, I have been running and hiding most of my life, and this hymn resonates in my heart.

My favorite singer of gospel music is Elvis as He introduced me to gospel music when I was just ten years old.

It was church music that Elvis was raised on and that is perhaps why he won 3 emmy awards for gospel music.

If you have not heard him sing this song then you do not know what you are missing, like all his gospel music he sings it from the heart.

“It Is No Secret (What God Can Do)”

The chimes of time ring out the news,
    Another day is through.
    Someone slipped and fell.
    Was that someone you?

You may have longed for added strength,
    Your courage to renew.
    Do not be disheartened,
For I have news for you.

It is no secret what God can do.
What He has done for others, He’ll do for you.
With arms wide open, He’ll pardon you.
It is no secret what God can do.

There is no night for in His light
    You never walk alone.
    Always feel at home,
    Wherever you may go.

There is no power can conquer you
While God is on your side.
    Take Him at His promise,
    Don’t run away and hide.

It is no secret what God can do.
What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you.
With arms wide open, He’ll pardon you.
It is no secret what God can do.

  3. SFDBWV says:

Some of us have seen the ugliness of a tortured death all of us have suffered torment and heartache at some point or continued place in our lives.

We continue to suffer physically and mentally, and all up to this writing, have died or are expected to.

To take a cup of something implies that the recipient has ingested into himself whatever is in the cup.

All throughout the Bible the prophet has struggled to elaborately explain whatever it is he sees beyond our experiential knowledge. So the words used are the simplest means of explaining to a simple people.

What are Jesus’ few hours of torture and the relief of death that makes this event so extraordinary?

When we take communion we drink the wine/grape juice, we call it “the new testament” His blood. But it is not really His blood and whereas it is a “new testament” it is symbolic act of faith by us. (1 Corinthians 11:25 KJV)

This “new testament” we take into ourselves is available only because Jesus took in to His being Adam’s guilt and so thereby all of our guilt, and was sacrificed in our place.

We still get sick, we still suffer torment and we still die.

What it is that makes Jesus’ death so extraordinary is not as much as His death but that He rose again from it alive.

Even though He took all of humanities guilt upon Himself still he defeated death and rose again to be with God.

Because of this extraordinary reason for His death (cup) we are able to take into us His “new testament” and share in a resurrected life along with Him.

We have a promise and evidence of its being real. A promise that carries us through a life of sickness, torment and death as we look past all of that to the promise of being resurrected like Jesus into a perfected existence.

A little later is writing it is 40 degrees, up from 30 at 4 am, under clear skies.

Yesterday Glenna and I had a special moment as we seen a *rainbow* around the sun in a perfect circle and an eagle flying overhead as we were observing seeing the rainbow colored ring around the afternoon sun.

I think the cup was filled with both God’s full wrath and the suffering that was about to take place by the lashes and the cross that we deserved but Jesus bore. I do not believe it would ever be possible to understand what Jesus was going through because I am sinful not sinless as he was. I know I deserve God’s wrath and separation from Him but Jesus did not and the worse part would be while He carried the sin of the world on His shoulders there was something He never was without through His whole existence and that was the presence of God’s spirit within Him but for that very time it would not be there.

  5. oneg2dblu says:

How blessed are those who claim today that their consciences are free from any feelings of guilt, because you Lord drank their cup of guilt for them, and their guilt, past, present, and future is now non-existent for them.

Guilt free Christian Living is theirs for the taking.

How much they must pity those poor Immature Christians, those who still find that even after receiving your Spirit, they still have an awakened conscience that pricks them with guilt, as they recognize sin has its consequences, and that sin is alive a well established as it pollutes the planet and still inhabits the hearts of man.

No wonder why change for them means only they do nothing about their sin, but live a guilt free life.

But, isn’t that exactly how they lived when they were originally made in your Image, as Enemies of God?

    Has sold them a falsehood?

Aren’t they really pretending to now be just as blind to guilt as the walking dead they were when they were first born.

Isn’t being free of shame, free of guilt or blind to sin, the same freedom they walked in before knowing you, and being born again?

What is it they seem to miss, aren’t we supposed to hold every thought captive to Christ?

Isn’t, “Holding every thought captive to Christ, and also living in this new freedom of living under no law, two distinctly paradoxical practices?

    Just thinking…

  6. joycemb says:

I sought God out in my sinful state but it was Him reaching down to retrieve me that humbled me into submission. Before that I was not able to even comprehend love. And completely unable to find it in another person. Now I see through the Eyes of grace the loveliness available to all. And as God so loved me I am more able to see love in others-especially those who have been touched by the love of God. Thank you Jesus for suffering for me and the whole world that we may know love, the greatest thing.

thinking about Jesus teaching in Mark 7:

14 After He called the crowd to Him again, He began saying to them, “Listen to Me, all of you, and understand: 15 there is nothing outside the man which can defile him if it goes into him; but the things which proceed out of the man are what defile the man. 16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”

17 When he had left the crowd and entered the house, His disciples questioned Him about the parable. 18 And He said to them, “Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?” 20 And He was saying, “That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, 22 deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. 23 All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.”

thinking the cup was filled with my sin and many others. Thank You for saving wretches. please save more of them.

  8. street says:

mart said,”How much is to be risked or gained by wondering how much of the cup that Jesus drank for us was the full measure of our own blind fear and rage— so that our God could show us how much he loves us, and what he is willing to forgive?”

it is my understanding that Jesus suffered under the wrath of man on the cross, not God’s. yes Jesus died on the cross to satisfy God’s requirement of death for sin. when it is reversed there will be no let up or any hope of a future. we must compel and beg them to make peace with God. pray hard like the canaanite woman.

  9. remarutho says:

    Good Morning All —

Walked a few miles this morning on the local hiking trail. Pondered the many kinds of cups the prophets spoke about — cups of salvation, trembling, astonishment, desolation, blessing, cold water, plus more — and yes, the New Testament (Covenant) in Christ’s blood.

Jesus accepted that cup of suffering for the sake of us sinners. So, in his atoning death He bore all that was coming to us — bitter though it was. It was a cup of obedience to the Father as well.

Today, we remember the meal He served to His friends gathered at Passover. He gave a new meaning to the final cup of the feast — the cup of blessing. Tomorrow, after a night of dramatic surrender, arrest and imprisonment, Jesus will face the agony of scourging and shameful torture.

We are living, it seems to me, in an age that is short on reverence for the most holy and precious things. Often, worship is lavished on things of no worth. When the cup of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice is at the heart of human values, we are freed to do good in the world because His kingdom is near.

    Holy Thursday Blessings,
    Maru

  10. street says:

gary i think you are confusing the sanctification process with the eternal state. thinking God is still bigger and capable of removing all dross and foolishness from me. as i come to understand His love for me i begin to yield the areas of my life to Him. in the end only total and complete surrendering to His love like abraham.

a 1000 years is like a single day to him and a single day is like a 1000 years to Him.

  11. dibdabdeb says:

Thank you for this post. I’ve been thinking recently about God’s wrath and Jesus. Maru, I agree with you I think this was a cup of suffering and also obedience. Jesus showing us a better way. The new covenant. Was God angry or wrathful toward Jesus? Wasn’t it anger and wrath against the sin that has entangled us and estranged us from him? And Jesus was showing us a new way, a way of love and obedience even in the face of suffering. “Being disguised under the disfigurement of an ugly crucifixion and death, Christ upon the cross is paradoxically the clearest revelation of who God is.” –Hans Urs von Balthasar

  12. poohpity says:

Today in my bible study we will be celebrating communion just as Jesus did during His the last supper the night(Maundy Thursday) before His crucifixion. All of our Spiritual healing is done by our belief in what we celebrate over the next three days. Praise God for His love and never giving up on us.

  13. jeff1 says:

There are times when you seem so close but equally there are times when you seem so far away!

Help me to walk with Thee, and not to get behind or to run too far in front and loose my way, but to take your hand as you lead me your way!

“Just a closer walk with Thee”

I am weak but Thou art strong
Jesus keep me from all wrong
    I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee

Just a closer walk with Thee
Grant it, Jesus is my plea
    Daily walking close to Thee
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be

When my feeble life is o’er
Time for me shall be no more
    Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom’s shore, to Thy shore

When life’s sun sinks in the west
Lord may I have done my best
May I find sweet peace and rest
In that happy home of the blessed

Just a closer walk with Thee
Grant it, Jesus is my plea
    Daily walking close to Thee
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be

    When He overturns them in His anger;
    6
Who shakes the earth out of its place,

    7
Who commands the sun [e]not to shine,
    And sets a seal upon the stars;
    8
Who alone stretches out the heavens

    9
Who makes the Bear, Orion and the Pleiades,

“If it is a matter of power, behold, He is the strong one!
And if it is a matter of justice, who can summon [k]Him?

Though I am guiltless, He will declare me guilty.
    21

    I do not take notice of myself;
    I despise my life.

They flee away, they see no good.
    26
“They slip by like reed boats,
Like an eagle that swoops on [l]its prey.
    27
“Though I say, ‘I will forget my complaint,
I will leave off my sad countenance and be cheerful,’
    28
I am afraid of all my pains,
I know that You will not acquit me.
    29
    “I am accounted wicked,
Why then should I toil in vain?
    30
“If I should wash myself with snow
And cleanse my hands with lye,
    31
Yet You would plunge me into the pit,
And my own clothes would abhor me.
    32
“For He is not a man as I am that I may answer Him,
That we may go to [m]court together.
    33
“There is no umpire between us,
Who may lay his hand upon us both.
    34
“Let Him remove His rod from me,
And let not dread of Him terrify me.
    35
    “Then I would speak and not fear Him;
But I am not like that in myself.

  15. street says:

    19 Then Job responded,

    And crush me with words?
    3
    “These ten times you have insulted me;
You are not ashamed to wrong me.

“Even if I have truly erred,
    My error lodges with me.
    5
“If indeed you vaunt yourselves against me
And prove my disgrace to me,
    6
Know then that God has wronged me
And has closed His net around me.
    Everything Is against Him

    7

I shout for help, but there is no justice.
    8
“He has walled up my way so that I cannot pass,
And He has put darkness on my paths.
    9
“He has stripped my honor from me
And removed the crown from my head.
    10
    “He breaks me down on every side, and I am gone;
And He has uprooted my hope like a tree.
    11
“He has also kindled His anger against me
And considered me as His enemy.
    12
    “His troops come together,
And build up their way against me
    And camp around my tent.

    13
“He has removed my brothers far from me,
And my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.
    14
    “My relatives have failed,
And my intimate friends have forgotten me.
    15
“Those who live in my house and my maids consider me a stranger.
I am a foreigner in their sight.
    16
    “I call to my servant, but he does not answer;
I have to implore him with my mouth.
    17
“My breath is offensive to my wife,
And I am loathsome to my own brothers.
    18
    “Even young children despise me;
I rise up and they speak against me.
    19
    “All my associates abhor me,
And those I love have turned against me.
    20
“My bone clings to my skin and my flesh,
And I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth.
    21
“Pity me, pity me, O you my friends,
For the hand of God has struck me.
    22
“Why do you persecute me as God does,
And are not satisfied with my flesh?
    Job Says, “My Redeemer Lives”

    23
“Oh that my words were written!
Oh that they were inscribed in a book!
    24
“That with an iron stylus and lead
They were engraved in the rock forever!
    25
“As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives,
And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.
    26
“Even after my skin is destroyed,
    Yet from my flesh I shall see God;
    27
    Whom I myself shall behold,
And whom my eyes will see and not another.
    My heart faints within me!
    28
“If you say, ‘How shall we persecute him?’
And ‘What pretext for a case against him can we find?’
    29
“Then be afraid of the sword for yourselves,
For wrath brings the punishment of the sword,
So that you may know there is judgment.”

  16. joycemb says:

    Powerful- thank you Street

  17. poohpity says:

street, I am confused what the point is from Job’s responses to the accusations of Bildad?

  18. street says:

bildad comments are not the focus, but the understanding of the righteous suffering. job did suffer and was innocent. Jesus suffered and was innocent too. job cried out Jesus did not, till His Father had forsaken Him.

like mart said,”How much is to be risked or gained by wondering how much of the cup that Jesus drank for us ”

    to contemplate suffering…..it scares me.

  19. joycemb says:

Street suffering used to scare me too. Until I finally learned how to embrace it. Now I look into Jesus’ scarred face when I am suffering and remember His nail pierced hands. It’s an honor to be counted worthy.

  20. joycemb says:

Suffering is no respecter of persons. God also pours His blessings on the just and the unjust. If our suffering or blessings cause us to look up we have been won. If not, well, Lord have mercy.

  21. poohpity says:

street, those were Job’s responses to Bildad’s false accusations about how God judges man. Job seemed to realize he was not perfect and was more confronting his friend Bildad for not being a very good comforter in his time of distress. Job knew he could never be declared innocent because even the words he was saying accused him. Unlike Jesus who did nothing or said nothing wrong or he would not be the perfect Lamb of God without any defects.

Sin and evil had caused mankind to suffer just as that was the reason that Jesus made the choice to suffer for us and take God’s punishment in our place.

  22. poohpity says:

Now-a-days not to many especially in the USA suffer for the cause of Christ or for doing good like they do around the world. People suffer mostly because of poor choices, attitudes, behaviors and just our fallen world not for the cause of Christ.

  23. poohpity says:

For those who suffer for the sake of sharing the gospel and following Jesus count it as a blessing to share in the suffering as Christ did. Although we will never experience what Christ did because of who He is and exactly what he did, that is impossible.

  24. poohpity says:

“The crucifixion is not a story designed to make us feel good or guilty and guide the morals of culture and society. It was God’s redemptive initiative to heal the broken heart, strike the heart of evil, conquer death and sorrow, and open a way to a new kind of life and the restoration of all things. Holy week invites us to respond to who God is and what God has done, to celebrate the mercy, grace, and love of Christ in the gift of so great a salvation, to discover life in the cross for the glory of God.” RZIM

  25. Mart DeHaan says:

Street, I’m intrigued by what you may be sensing in the words of Job… if i.e. Job foreshadowed a truly innocent Sufferer who bore the full consequence of the worst kind of rebellion… a rebellion that ultimately used strategies of the worst kind of torture and terrorism… on a Victim whose suffering was deepened by the silence and perceived abandonment of his God… and amplified by the cruel misunderstanding and accusations of those who in their blind and mindless anger… supposed it was their place to defend the honor and law of God… only to ultimately discover that the One they had wrongly accused… would be the One who, with God’s pleasure and vindication, interceded for their mercy…

  26. jeff1 says:

Pooh while I agree with you that not to many suffer for the cause of Christ today, many of those have not been taught, as the modern world has taken God out of the world.

False teaching is another cause of waywardness from God.

God predestined those whom He choose and though man has taken God from the world, God is still in the world, still in control, it is men who believe they are in control but only at God’s command should any man boast!

  27. foreverblessed says:

Thanks, that is new insight to me:
Job as a type of Christ, who is suffering innocently!
Jesus must have known the despair of Job, arguing with God:
Have pity on me, for the hand of God has struck me Job 19:21
    In the cry of Jesus:
God, my God, why have you forsaken me,
Jesus must have felt the deep despair of Job too.
Only the depth of loneliness of Jesus was a billion times worse.

All the sins of mankind was laid on Him, and the Lord left Him alone.
Jesus was on His own, all alone He bore all, that is all our sins.

The wrath of God, (I have been pondering about it, since Mart had this topic)
God left Jesus, that is it.
That is the wrath of God.
He did not come to save Him, God left, turned His back on Jesus.
Jesus was full of our sins, He was one with it, and God is too Holy to be one with sin.
    That is it, the wrath.
Or, at least, that is the depth of how I perceive it at this moment.

And then the logic consequence of all our sins had its work in Jesus: He died.

Tonight we will remember that is a service at church.

  28. SFDBWV says:

    March 25, 2016
    When Messiah Came
“Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.” (Daniel 9:25)

This remarkable prophecy, given through the angel Gabriel to Daniel the prophet, actually predicted the date of the coming of Christ nearly 500 years in advance. From the announcement to the coming of “Messiah the Prince,” there would be 69 “weeks” (literally “sevens,” meaning in this context “seven-year periods”). That is, Messiah would come as the Prince 483 years after the commandment was given to rebuild Jerusalem. There is some uncertainty about the exact date of the decree, as well as the exact length of these prophetic years, but in each calculation the termination date is at least near or, in some cases, exactly the time when Christ entered Jerusalem to be acknowledged as its promised King.

However, Gabriel’s prophecy went on to say: “And after [the] threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off” (Daniel 9:26). That is, although He would come as promised, instead of being gladly crowned as King, He would be slain. Since the 483-year period terminated long ago, it is clear that Messiah must already have come and then been put to death at that time.

The terms of this remarkable prophecy have been precisely fulfilled in Jesus Christ alone, and no one coming later could have done so. It is no wonder that He wept over Jerusalem, pronouncing her coming judgment, “because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation” (Luke 19:44).

We, like He, should weep and pray for Israel. Yet, in God’s omniscient planning, “through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles” (Romans 11:11), and in this we can rejoice. HMM

This is from my daily devotional from the Institute for Creation Research. Yes Job and his story are all about Jesus, he can be found if we search with Him in mind.

  29. tracey5tgbtg says:

It is an interesting to see Job as a foreshadowing of “truly innocent” victim, suffering and being accused by legalistic companions. Because Job was human, I do not think he was without sin, but I think he, like Paul, was truly trying to live by following the law and thought he was succeeding, as Paul did.

But in both cases, Paul and Job, they are both struck speechless and with humility when they hear the voice of God.

  30. poohpity says:

“After the Lord had finished speaking to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “I am angry with you and your two friends, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has. 8 So take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and offer a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer on your behalf. I will not treat you as you deserve, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has.” Job 42:7-8 NLT

That really sounds like a foreshadowing of Jesus that He took the treatment we deserved while Job used sacrifices Jesus used His own body.

  31. poohpity says:

oops The friends offered sacrifice for their false accusations about God and Job prayed a mercy prayer for them while Jesus did both He was the sacrifice and the One who offered the mercy prayer on our behalf.

  32. foreverblessed says:

It always amazes me how short of memory God is, or after forgiveness how easily He forgets all about it:
He says about Job that he spoke right about God.
While a few chapters earlier, Elihu was the first one the confront Job rightly:
    Job 35:1-3,14-16
And God Himself asks Job: Who are you that darkens My counsel, with words without knowledge? Job 38:1-2

Job sees his error, Job 40:4-5, but God goes on a little more about explaining what He is doing, He isn’t done make it clear to Job, about the behemoth and the leviathan, how God disciplines them.
Job again tells of his repentance, Job 42:1-8

And the next thing God says: Job has rightly spoken about Me, Job 42:7 ??!!
He forgets all the sins of Job, right away after he saw how wrong he had been!

What a great thing that is:
As far as East is from the West has He removed our sins from us and does not remember them anymore!

  33. remarutho says:

    Good Morning BTA Friends —

The cup that Jesus drank is a deeper cup than Job drank, it seems to me. The Lord set definite limits on what Satan could do to Job, a fully mortal man.

The evil one was permitted to remove all Job’s material blessings of prosperity and sons and daughters. Then, the devil was permitted to afflict Job with disease. But he was not permitted to kill God’s beloved friend.

Out of his agony, Job prophesies about Messiah:

“Oh that my words were written!
Oh that they were inscribed in a book!

“That with an iron stylus and lead
They were engraved in the rock forever!

“As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives,
And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.

“Even after my skin is destroyed,
    Yet from my flesh I shall see God;

    Whom I myself shall behold,
And whom my eyes will see and not another.
My heart faints within me!” Job 19:23-27

The One Job spoke about could only be the unique Son begotten by God to be His Suffering Servant:

    “Who has believed our message?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot,
    And like a root out of parched ground;
He has no stately form or majesty
That we should look upon Him,
Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.

“He was despised and forsaken of men,
    A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
And like one from whom men hide their face
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

“Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
    And our sorrows He carried;
Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
    Smitten of God, and afflicted.

“But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
    He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.

“All of us like sheep have gone astray,
    Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.” Isaiah 53:1-6

Job drank a cup of testing and was vindicated by God, still a fallen human.

Jesus drank the cup of sacrifice and rose to New Life, lifting all who believe in Him cleansed by His blood into God’s presence.

    Love that old verse:
    “He paid a debt He did not owe;
    I owed a debt I could not pay;
I needed someone to wash my sins away.
And, now, I sing a brand new song,
    “Amazing Grace.”
Christ Jesus paid a debt that I could never pay.”

    Good Friday blessings,
    Maru

  34. joycemb says:

“‘For there is no one like [Job] on earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil'” (1:8),Job

    Job did not sin.

  35. joycemb says:

Yet he knew, somehow (probably because of his close walk with God) that God was his redeemer, which we all need.

  36. poohpity says:

I understand what you are saying Joyce because Job lived before the law was even given that taught us what sin is. He lived in the time or era of faith along with Abraham as we do now. Yes I also agree it was of a close relationship with God that he knew what was pleasing to God and that was done by faith.

  37. poohpity says:

forever I do not understand that any of Job’s friends confronted Job rightly but with twisted perceptions about Job not knowing his heart or not understanding at all anything about God. Of course there are many things I do not understand so nothing new. Since none of Job’s suffering came from God directly but from the evil one.

  38. poohpity says:

Jesus on the other hand came for various missions of which one was the Cross. John 3:16 NIV; Heb 12:2 NIV

  39. foreverblessed says:

“He has no stately form or majesty
That we should look upon Him,
Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.”
    Isaiah 53:2

    Just on a side note
As these verses say: Jesus did not look like a smashing good looking guy!
He is always portrayed as this special great looking guy, beautiful eyes, long hair.

But as this bible verse say: there was nothing special about his outward looks, only in the expression of his eyes people could see that He was the Son of God.
Why would I like to write this?
Last night the Passion was played in a city here in our country. It is aired on tv, and watched by many many people. So a very good evangelical program, especially for the unbelieving.
It is now the 4th year, and it is getting more and more popular. Also in the non christian part of society.
They ask well known people, usually tv actors to play the different characters, and Jesus was played by a small guy, with somewhat fat belly. But he did a good job, in his eyes you could see the love!

This Passion thing will also start in the US, I do not remember which city.

The message of Jesus is so different: do not react with violance when attacked: love your enemies.
It was very well explained but the narrator yesterday, in the light of these terrorists attacks.

  40. foreverblessed says:

Pooh, you forgot about the last friend, Elihu, who spoke the words of God to Job?
Job did not have to offer sacrifices for him, Job 42:9, he is not mentioned there.

  41. poohpity says:

forever, yes The Passion of Christ has been playing on TV many times during this week.

Yes you are right I forgot Elihu and his argument which did jab at Job’s pride. :-)

  42. poohpity says:

One of his points seemed to be that not all suffering was punishment from God but a means of refining, getting dross out.

  43. joycemb says:

Viv I want to share with you that there is a contemporary translation of the New Testament out that I am reading through. It’s called “The Kingdom New Testament” written by a Brit named N. T. Wright, the former (I believe) Bishop of Durham and teacher of New Testament. He speaks often at Christian Colleges here and has many videos on YouTube also. His translation is definitely British in vernacular and thought you may enjoy it.

  44. Regina says:

    Good Morning, BTA Friends! :-)
I pray all is well with you all! Oh, how I’ve missed you! The LORD knows that you’ve been in my thoughts! I’ve been ((so)) busy since early-February until yesterday! As you know, I was preparing for my last court hearing—and thank you to all who prayed for me regarding my situation—in February, and I have a ((praise)) report…I’m finally FREE! Praise the LORD! We’re all going to meet (me, my attorney, my Ex and his attorney) sometime in April(?) to sign the final paperwork! To GOD be all the glory! I was going to tell yall sooner because my attorney told me the good news exactly a month earlier, and today is my BIRTHDAY!!! :-) I’m debt free, and I’ll receive a monthly stipend… and I’ll just say that I did not get the short end of the stick this time. I’ve also been busy preparing with fellow choir members, dancers, actors and production staff for an Easter production at my church. We’re going to present the first part of the production tonight (an awesome b-day present!), and we’ll present the second part of the production on Sunday. Well, I’m looking forward to reading Mart’s intro comment and your comments for this blog topic, and I’m ((SO)) grateful to God for the many blessings that He’s given me my entire life!

    ((LOVE)) to all…
    Regina

  45. Regina says:

ps. I forgot to mention, BTA friends, that I didn’t even have to go to court! My attorney and opposing counsel were working behind the scenes to see if we could come to an agreement without having to go to court, and we were able to do so!

  46. phpatato says:

    Regina

I am praising God with you and thank you for letting us know. I have been praying for you and wondered how you were doing. God is so good to us isn’t He? My heart is feeling so glad for you!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! May you day be filled with all things wonderful!

Hope everyone here has a very Blessed Good Friday and Easter holiday weekend. I have a turkey in the oven right now as I will be having my family over for supper this evening.

    In God’s Love

  47. jeff1 says:

Thank You Joyce, how kind you are, I believe I have heard Of N. T. Wright and I will check it out.

A blessed Easter to you and to all.

  48. street says:

7 In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety. 8 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. 9 And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,

  49. joycemb says:

Viv you are welcome and I want you to know I think of you and pray for everyone on the blog daily. You all have a special place in my heart. Easter blessings to you also and everyone else.

  50. remarutho says:

Happy to hear you have opened a new chapter of your life, Regina. Prayers continue over here.

May we all be mindful this evening that Jesus has taken the cup of sacrifice today — and is lying dead in a freshly carved grave that belongs to Joseph of Arimathea. The women have followed and have seen where He is buried.

As we make our dinner plans for Sunday afternoon, and lay out our new clothes for the Easter celebration — may we “ponder anew what the Almighty can do.” Mary and her cohort have bought the spices to prepare Jesus’ body.

They will rest on tomorrow’s Sabbath, which begins at sundown with the appearance of the evening star. So, the plan is to prepare the body early Sunday, after the Sabbath is over.

All is prepared. What seems to be the end is actually the beginning.

    Blessings as we wait,
    Maru

  51. poohpity says:

Some of us do not have new Easter clothes and eating gratefully potatoes and beans for our Sunday meal.

Regina, Happy Birthday and it has been a long haul through your process so glad it finally being resolved. :-)

  52. SFDBWV says:

Today is considered by many to be when Jesus went into that place where the spirits of all past dead where and brought the message of salvation to even the dead. 1 Peter 3:19 KJV 1Peter 3:20 KJV

When I was younger and first learned of this I mused who would have rather stayed in that place of torment than given a pardon, all of hell must have been empty.

Luke 16:19-31 KJV tells of two places the soul goes after death one of torment the other a paradise. It is my understanding that Jesus visited both so that all men could hear the Gospel.

After-all the Psalms tells us there is nowhere in creation that God isn’t. Psalms 139: 7-12 KJV special attention to Psalms 139:8 KJV

Also Psalms 16:10 KJV and Psalms 86:13 KJV gives rise to the thought that with Christ there is always hope.

In gathering the Scripture verses this morning I came across this pearl I will also share; 2 Timothy 2:23, 24, 25, 26 KJV

Happy Belated Birthday Regina. I am so glad that the worst of your ordeal is over. Praise God for His countless Blessings that He pours on us daily.

  56. narrowpathseeker says:

Steve, somehow I posted only the first sentence of my message to you this morning. I so needed to hear 2nd Timothy 2:23-26……not only for here but for the political realm as well as all other aspects of social interactions.

Happy Easter to ALL and may we ALL be grateful for the super Blessing of Jesus Himself, as well as, for the countless Blessings we so often take for granted.

  57. remarutho says:

    Good Morning All —

I wonder that the love of God sent Jesus, as you say Steve, into spiritual realms far beyond our earthly one. His salvation has no limits!

This Saturday — the Jewish Sabbath — is a good day to appreciate how the Lord through His Messiah “shows us how much he loves us, and what he is willing to forgive,” as Mart puts it.

    Blessings,
    Maru

  58. poohpity says:

I do not have a clue what happened between being laid in the tomb before the Sabbath which began at sunset on Friday through sunset on Saturday until the resurrection of His body on Sunday.

    The bible does teach that at the time He cried out; “It Is Finished” Matthew records Matt 27:50-53;
“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many.”

Then on Sunday morning the first to see the risen Savior was Mary Magdalene Mark 16:9 NLT and in between it seems only God knows. I think if God thought it would benefit us to know He would have told us just like there are many things we do not know which sadly many do not believe in the glimpse we already have been given to know as it is.

We also know that after His resurrection He appeared to His disciples, at different times and in different places (Acts 1:3 NIV; Mark 16:12, 14; Luke 24:36; John 20:19, 26; 21:1, 14) that could, not sure, be the time He visited those who did not believe Noah about the flood who were in spiritual prison. It seems areas like that are what can cause controversies and arguments when no one knows for sure. To me those areas are a matter of trust and faith.

  59. poohpity says:

Sometimes I can not even wrap my mind around how great His love is for me or even comprehend the completeness of His grace.

  60. street says:

The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone.

“All the kings of the nations lie in glory,
    Each in his own tomb.
    19
“But you have been cast out of your tomb
    Like a rejected branch,
Clothed with the slain who are pierced with a sword,
Who go down to the stones of the pit
    Like a trampled corpse.
    20
“You will not be united with them in burial,
Because you have ruined your country,
    You have slain your people.
May the offspring of evildoers not be mentioned forever.

  61. street says:

33 its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. 34 You continued looking until a stone was cut out without hands, and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and crushed them. 35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were crushed all at the same time and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away so that not a trace of them was found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

  62. jeff1 says:

Feel so much at peace this Easter period as He fills me with hope for the world to come.

    BECAUSE HE LIVES

    God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
    He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

    Chorus

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone,
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
    Just because He lives!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
    And feel the pride and joy He brings;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

    Chorus

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
    Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
    Just because He lives!

And then one day I’ll cross the river,
    I’ll fight life’s final war with pain;
And then as death gives way to victory,
I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives!

    Chorus

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
    Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
    Just because He lives!

Touching us with truth that needs no eye.
Each soul in fear and trembling waits to see
Reason drown in one last ecstasy.
