Our Father’s Business

DSC00649Jesus’ first recorded words are revealing— and maybe a clue to all that follows. When his mother asked her 12 year old why he had caused her and his father so much anxiety, he answered with his own question. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house” (or “Didn’t you know I had to be about my Father’s business.”) (Luke 2:49).

But if, by hindsight, those words increase our appreciation for Jesus’ relationship with his Father, they were confusing to his parents. Luke doesn’t tell us whether they asked for an explanation, only that their 12 year old compliantly returned to Nazareth with them, and that it was a moment that made a lasting impression on his mother.

Luke also tells us that while his parents were desperately looking for him— he was listening and asking questions of the rabbis of Israel, and that all who listened to him were astonished by his understanding and answers.

Were “the answers” that showed Jesus’ understanding—and what a good listener he was— “the questions” he asked Israel’s wise men?

Are the questions Jesus’ Spirit is asking us— more revealing of Our Father’s business in and with us—than the answers we are looking for?

Good Morning Mart & Friends —

How can we humans who are seeking God discern our Father’s business? Answers differ. But Jesus, at the tender age of twelve years old, engaged in true, deep dialogue with the rabbis of Israel. Here is our inspiration and model for genuine communication, it seems to me.

After young Jesus’ questions impressed and unsettled the temple leadership, He responded to His parents’ concern with divine transparency. His question reveals the depth of His devotion to God and God’s kingdom. The “answer” resonates with the hearer’s own spirit. We can only affirm or deny — no word of response is required.

Jesus spurs each hearer to take action in life — whether to rise to the call and follow Him or to turn away to his/her own answers — his/her own business.

Grace and Peace at Father’s Day,

I think this story shows the humanness of Joseph and Mary as well as reminding me of theirs and my own ease at forgetting God’s actions in our lives.

Remembering that the story has Jesus at twelve years old gives rise to the fact that in Jewish tradition Jesus had not yet become a man.

Remembering also that some nearly thirteen years prior what a huge impact God had on Mary and Joseph’s lives, yet neither understood what Jesus meant when He said He was about His Fathers business.

They both I am sure thought over time about the specialness of Jesus, but it seems they were not sure what to expect as it is written Mary kept these things in her heart. I suppose trying to figure it all out.

Interesting that here in this story it is recorded that when they found Jesus He was sitting in the midst of the “doctors”, both hearing them and asking them questions. “Doctors”! Didaskalos in the Greek. Masters, or teachers in the Hebrew faith. Luke 2:46 KJV

I just found it an interesting use of words, instead of Rabbi or Priest.

“Hearing them and asking them questions.” Do you suppose He was listening to them and asking questions to see what they knew, more than to learn from them?

Again I am reminded of how many of us ask questions and listen more to understand where the other might be instead of listening in order to learn.

Even at twelve years old Jesus leads the way in revealing our own nature to ourselves; the business of God in bringing us closer to Him.

It seems that God’s questions throughout scripture gave whomever was asked pause to think about what they truly believed or what and who they believed in. Sometimes people just say a lot of things without really knowing what their foundation truly is.

God did not answer Job’s questions but rather questioned Job. Jesus did the same to those who came to Him with questions He questioned them to get to the heart of the matter. Even knowing the heart of those who asked, it seems He wanted them to get to the point do they really believe what they say they believe or do they really even know what they believe.

The question that Jesus posed to Mary and Joseph pretty much seemed to get them back on track to who He was and what He had come for. Doing everyday life they may have started to take for granted all that had happened in the 12 previous years as they were just going along being a family.

Are the questions Jesus’ spirit is asking us – more revealing of His Father’s business in and with us – than the answers we are looking for?

Jesus’ spirit reveals the truth and not what I believed to be the truth in that it is God who orchestrates my circumstances to align with God’s will and that He abides with me in life and in death.

It is a lie of Satan that I can be separated from God and I know because Satan has spent His life trying but it is God who awakened my spirit to the truth that I am His.

It is God who is faithful and the guilt I have is that I ever doubted Him!

TO GOD BE THE GLORY GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE

  7. oneg2dblu says:

If sin does not separate anyone from God, then, why was Christ himself in such anguish, both in the garden, and on the cross?

“Abba Father why have you forsaken me?”

    Just thinking….

  8. oneg2dblu says:

I thought the Judgment of Hell was for those who sin, those who are without Christ, or the empty, lonely, and guilty, who will suffer Eternal Separation from God.

  9. street says:

dear gary…..if Jesus cleanses us from sin and makes us whiter than snow and brighter than the sun…..what sin are you talking about?

  10. street says:

    1 John 3:2
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

  11. street says:

so many amusing and painful thoughts go through my mind with a 12 old boy in the temple. thinking of the “doctors” talking to a 12 year old boy, who is the same One they turn to in prayer daily in the temple and Who’s present resided in the Holy of Hollies. so close yet so far away. oh to have eyes to see and ears to hear and a heart to obey.
thinking of mary raising this perfect Son. never needing correction. totally re-centered in time and circumstance with a single question. it’s not answers we are looking for but God Himself. may we not rest till we are pure in heart, for they shall see
God. thinking adam and eve saw God all the time. it was not till sin entered that He was obscured.

  12. street says:

poo said,”Sometimes people just say a lot of things without really knowing what their foundation truly is.”

thinking of parroting. just repeating what is said and not even knowing what your are saying. when questioned, it gets really frustrating or enlightening.

thinking of john’s eye witness account in

1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our joy complete.

that which He wrote we read that our joy may be complete too. may God richly bless us with his presents.

  13. oneg2dblu says:

street… Wow, you think you’ve got me on that one.

Yes, at initial salvation, when we are Born Again, children of God, like Christ if you will, our slate is wiped clean.

    Very true.

But, there are those who because of a certain doctrine, (and the scriptures speak about the doctrines of man, which send many to Hell thinking because they have been Born Again, Born Again as children of God, or Once Saved, or Once Forgiven, thinking for sure, It is finished, that all their sins are already forgiven them.

Which you probably aspire to as well.

Yet, that is not exactly what Christ taught his followers, for our forgiveness is conditional according to the scriptures.

You ask…what sin are you talking about?

For one, (and there are others) I will start with the Sin of Omission, or, our lacking of forgiveness, if you will.

According to the scriptures, Matthew 6:15, and John 20:23, which both speak of conditions placed on forgiveness, do they not?

Do we then ignore those teachings because of the doctrines created by man?

Just asking a few questions of you, to further your need for an answer…. or lets just say, I’m being more Christ-like in my reply to you.

  15. street says:

thinking of Jesus organizing and…caused her and his father so much anxiety…..desperately looking for him for three days. asking questions and looking for answers. finding none till they found Jesus and he asked them a question. we forget He is God and we are not. so refreshing. sad to say this played out in mary’s life again, but she received such a joy that it could never be taken from her.

  16. street says:

gary is Dad’s arm so short or so weak He can not save? yes we still sin too. yet we discover a discipline from Dad that is most effective. not only can He drive out dross, He provides the mercy, grace, and love we need to abide in His presents.
if our sin or sins condemn us to hell after He saves us then none are saved. i remind you the heart is desperately wicked and it it easy for the devil to masquerade his servants in the church because of ignorance. thinking of the 10 virgins waiting for the bride groom comes to mind.

  17. oneg2dblu says:

street sasys… “i remind you the heart is desperately wicked and it it easy for the devil to masquerade his servants in the church because of ignorance.”
    Exactly my point.
I could not have said it better, and your pointing to those 10 virgins tells us that half of them were also not ready.
Was God’s arm to short for them?

  18. street says:

    hired hands and unforgiving owner.
    Matthew 20 Matthew 18:21-35

both of these unforgiven harbored envy and unforgiveness, lack of love.

scriptures speak about the doctrines of man, similar to keeping law. mans law or making an idol of law.

According to the scriptures, Matthew 6:15 and John 20:23 which both speak of conditions placed on forgiveness, do they not? yes they do one speaks of forgivness of an individual heart the other speaks of the church. God gave the church the power not to forgive. that statement was made at pentecost when the entire church was in one place at one time. others added later. when the church chooses not to forgive, the person has but one recourse but to go to God directly. and we know there is only One Mediator between God and man. i just wish the church got it right all the time, but we know that is not the case.
the doctrine of man creeps in. Light and Salt should clear up the deficit quite quickly?

  19. street says:

why are you arguing with me God made the 5 that did not make it. they serve as warning. not the substance. you need to ask Him. are you listening? you asking me would be like turning to man for help or a 12 year old boy, when you could have turned to God for help. thinking of naamon

    Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

  20. cbrown says:

4 Nicodemus *said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born [c]again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

9 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony. 12 If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man. 14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; 15 so that whoever [d]believes will in Him have eternal life.

  21. street says:

13 Now on the same occasion there were some present who reported to Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered this fate? 3 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 4 Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

thinking of sin as missing the mark or the target,bulls-eye. how is it possible to hit the target if it is so far away and we can not reach it?
repentance from dead works and faith in a Savior?
a Savior that settles accounts with God?

  22. street says:

thinking of mary being re-centered to the call and will of God with a question. gentle and loving He is. and they went home. home is in the presents of God, not anywhere else. thinking Jesus went away by Himself many times to pray and abide, to be at home. he was not at home on the earth, He was chasing the darkness out. thinking of the things He did and all the things He ruled over. waiting for the Kings return.

  23. poohpity says:

If all our sins aren’t forgiven once and for all times then the scriptures are lying.(1 Peter 3:18; Heb 9:26 NLT) I guess one would have to know Jesus and the business He came for to be secure in the fact that God looks at us covered by the blood of the Lamb.

  24. joycemb says:

    Just curious. How do you guys interpret I John 3:4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 NLT?

  25. joycemb says:

Pooh I just saw on news you have horrible high temps out your way. Stay cool!

  26. oneg2dblu says:

My apologies to all here who have to bear with this train wreck of thoughts, as two or more Christians here, seemingly trying to find common ground, by insulting, insinuation, blaming of the other for discussing what they themselves have brought about.

Street, you brought the virgins into the arena, so why dump that on me?

You brought up that God’s arms are not to short.

You challenged me about what sin?

All this back and forth with no resolve, yet claiming only one of us to be the antagonist?

Please leave my name out of your future dialogue.

I’ve answered what I can for you and it serves to be of no end.

I forgive you for making me look like the ignorant one here.

Your place is not to tell me to go to Daddy, your place is to go to Daddy yourself first, then, He will tell you where to go.

  27. oneg2dblu says:

joyce… unfortunately it all depends on what church has been feeding you, what doctrines they support to foster those beliefs, and what one is open or closed to discussing without all the others coming on board to take apart your very thoughts.

So, I guess that would start with you giving us, your thoughts first, and then, being open and free to let others express theirs.

It will of course bring many scriptures to the light, each supporting both sides of what is sin, who sins, who is in need of repenting, and who believes there is no longer any need to repent, or to ask for forgiveness, or to believe they are only asking for something they already possess.

It is an open can of worms which has never been resolved here, and never will be, as long as we live in these earthly tents.

But, that is just my scripture backed intro to an endless amount of rebuttal from those who no longer have any fear of sinning, or God, because of believing a certain doctrine.

    I’m glad you asked though.

  28. joycemb says:

    Gary, gotcha.

  29. cbrown says:

Gary, would you please explain to me what Jesus is saying in John 3.

  30. poohpity says:

The scripture does not contain the bad news doctrine of being able to lose something that was a gift to us but the Good News accepting what Jesus did on our behalf and if God gives good gifts to His children, He does not take them back or unadopt us once we are His, we will ALWAYS be His.

Yes Joyce it is a HOT, very Hot one today. 117 in the shade so in the sun it must be about 120+. The rest of the week it is supposed to be about 4 degrees cooler if you want to call that cooler, lol.

  31. street says:

steve said,”“Hearing them and asking them questions.” Do you suppose He was listening to them and asking questions to see what they knew, more than to learn from them? ”

the purpose of God asking questions is to reveal the truth or to open our minds to engage Him. in the book of job, he was taken to task with questions and in the assault he understood God better than he ever understood before. job walked away from his questions and saw something much clearer than before. i remember reading about people entertaining angles and not knowing. it is even more amassing that some have entertained God and did not know it. thinking further ….we are invited by faith to enter God’s present in prayer. i can see why He tells us to pray without ceasing. everything is designed to get us into His presents….because he knows we are dead without Him.

  32. poohpity says:

cbrown, does one need the help of the Holy Spirit to understand scripture? If one does not believe in the Good News how will one have the help of the Holy Spirit?

  33. oneg2dblu says:

    Sounds like another, Gary, gotcha!

  34. street says:

thinking of where to go and what to say. have to be honest i can not come up with this on my own. i am not that smart or faithful. mostly cut and paste. many of the words were not mine if anything i should not even comment and for that i know i am on dangerous ground.

thinking there is great freedom in knowing God.

isn’t that what we long for?

  35. cbrown says:

Actually Gary you said on 6/19 at 2:10PM “Do we then ignore those teachings because of the doctrines created by man?”and since I do not believe The Spirit of God can die,I posted what JESUS said about the subject in John 3 and asked for your response?

  36. street says:

thinking this is putting the cart in front of the horse. lets put our thoughts out there and then let Scripture come to light. and there will be many of them. thats like starting with darkness and ending with light. thinking it would be better to start with light and the darkness will go away.

thinking of politics today where there are serious issues to be faced and controversial minor issues muddying the water or running interference from priority issues. some see them as all the same and i guess you could say that in away. but i still think dealing with a homicidal maniac is more important than dealing with which restroom to use.

  37. street says:

gary said,”I could not have said it better, and your pointing to those 10 virgins tells us that half of them were also not ready.
Was God’s arm to short for them?”

two verses come to mind, Matthew 7:23 ; Romans 9:15

you may think this is unfair…..again you would be arguing with the wrong person.

a man shall live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

i can only see Jesus doing this.

If you have never been in a room full of people discussing anything you might not understand that some think the more they say and the louder they talk proves their point, instead of the point itself being proof of the subject.

A room filled with angry finger wagging and closed minds.

Too often that is what this blog sounds like.

Thinking of the basis for yesterday’s subject as being Father’s Day, I am reminded that of the first two children Adam had one killed the other.

Sounds like some here are in for a good one way stoning.

In the ten virgins, there was no room filled with angry pointing fingers, no loud voices, no stones being thrown.

There was however, the lingering final event, or the truth for some, actually half, in the closing of the door upon the unprepared.

To some they see that door as being unjustly slammed on them, like a stoning if you will, but, I see it as a gentle closing from the light of the banquet room, to the unending outer darkness.

All being the Righteous Judgement of God.

Those who were forever locked out, were not being hit with rocks thrown by any deceived and angry crowd.

    Good Morning BTA Friends —

Thank-you, Bubbles, for the pleasant reminder that summer has begun! It seems some are enduring a heat wave of historic proportions. Keep cool, friends!

Might offer the same suggestion to those who are in a “heated” discussion. Ever notice how we lose the topic when we get into a food fight?

Are we about our Father’s business? Jesus calls us to be centered on Him and his leading, it seems to me.

    Joy all day!

Stones are not cast by the person that wants you out of the way, they are thrown by the evil spirit within themselves.

The battle is always, In the Mind and the rest of the body follows that part which over-powers them.

Or, If you don’t mind, then, it does not matter.

My mind says to me, that everyone who thinks their sin has no effect on them, is a product of incorrect doctrinal thinking, or they are just confused, double minded, or suffer from a seared conscience.

Sinning freely, or disobedience if you will, is losing the battle of the mind, and the Battle for the Kingdom as well.

    In My Opinion

  46. oneg2dblu says:

Maru…I do not believe there is any food fight for those who are properly preparing for the banquet.

They are way to busy filling their lamps, and with their ready and filled lamps they then can rightfully share, or tell others what they need to have done for themselves to also be prepared.

But, we must be prepared to realize half of them just don’t want anyone’s advice, or to hear their warnings.

They are free to be empty of correction, or empty repentance,
and they are doing exactly what they want, ignoring good sound loving godly advice.

Be Prepared, for the Son of Man is coming.

Warnings are only the pebbles gently tapping at the window of the conscience, saying, Wake Up O Sleeper, Repent for the Hour of the Lord is Coming.
    Come Jesus!

  49. poohpity says:

No one on here has ever said that sinning does not have consequences or is a good thing to do or repeat but what has been shared that when we do sin and admit it, God is faithful to forgive us.

Jesus was in the business of sharing what His Father had sent Him to do and as we work together it is also each one of our business to do like wise as we participate in sharing the Gospel/Good News which is our partnership and unity in the Father’s Business along with Jesus and other believers. In that we know that we are all a work in process in the hands of the Master.

Being filled with the Holy Spirit which is represented by the parable of the oil filled lamps is what prompts us to be about the Father’s business. The sin filled flesh and spiritual darkness is what prompts food fights and rock throwing or verbal grenades showing there is no oil in the container so it is not a lamp at all only a container with a wick and is of no use.

  50. poohpity says:

For those who trust in the Holy Spirit know it is not us throwing pebbles at anyone but through His work of conviction that persuades a conscience because usually the one throwing the pebbles needs to consider the boulders in their own life.

  51. poohpity says:

That reminds me of the teaching of Jesus who said, “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?”. But that is only for disciples/students of Jesus going about the Father’s business.

  52. joycemb says:

It turned out to be a friend I hadn’t talked with for months using a relatives cell phone. We talked for a while then she mentioned she was attending an exercise class 2 days a week at our church. It’s a small group of women and I think my PTS can handle it so said I would meet her there. So grateful for how God is such a personal God and continues to care for the broken, lonely, and empty. God has in years past used this special friend to give me a hand up when I needed it. I told her how God was using her again and she being one of the most humble people I know thanked me for saying that and I could tell she was encouraged also.

That’s being about the Fathers’ business; yoked with Jesus who shares and carries our burden with us.

I also found I can now listen to the pastors sermons online, which I did and was so blessed. So much more like being there rather than reading it. Makes me think of the Body of Christ and how God makes a way for all to be that Body in various ways. I am so blessed and grateful for His care!

Joyce, thank you for sharing that God looked after you.
Being busy with the Father’s business.
    Isn’t that saving mankind?
Each in his own time, for me it meant that He wants me to Be in His Rest. Not once in a while, but as a discipline, my whole life. So I can hear His voice for me, what He wants me to be, and then to do.

  61. SFDBWV says:

“Are the questions Jesus’ Spirit is asking us— more revealing of Our Father’s business in and with us—than the answers we are looking for?”

I like this question Mart has posed. I for one think that most of us look for conformation in what we already believe, not actually fresh answers.

I also wanted to caution any that want to be about our heavenly Fathers business, purposely.

If you ask God to use you, be ready for the unexpected, because the way He will use you will in no way be how you expected it.

He will empower you, anoint you, provide the means and put you where He wants you to be. And it will never be easy.

The end result growing a better you and providing for the needs of another or others.

The reward being that you are in your Fathers will.

This poem by Helen Steiner Rice got my attention today because it is God who transforms me into what He wants me to be.

    ONLY AS A CHILD

    “Unless you become as children”
And love Me as they do,
    Your cannot enter My Kingdom,
For the door is closed to you . . .
For Faith is the key to heaven
    And only God’s children hold
The key that opens the gateway
To that beautiful City of Gold . . .
For only a child yet unblemished
By the doctrines and theories of man
Is content to Trust and Love Jesus
    Without understanding His Plan.

  63. oneg2dblu says:

cbrown… I’m sorry I could not answer your request in a more timely manner.

But, others have already chimed in and given their question/response about understanding the scriptures.

As for what Jesus said in John 3, being that there was so much said, I was not sure which particular conditional teaching you were referring to.

Even in your verse sharing, many conditions were given.

Also the mention of never knowing where the spirit comes from, or where it goes, like the wind.

Or, “that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

Believes to me, is the operative word, it is a necessary currently existing condition, called belief, it is not any evidence of a once having believed, one always believes.

It clearly is multi- conditional teaching, “No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven.

No one can see the Kingdom of God unless they are Born Again.

So, the Holy Spirit must be present within them.

No one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and spirit.

Meaning both natural birth, which gives initial life to the body, and spiritual birth, which gives initial life to the spirit.

We all know the flesh of man and the spirit of God are two distinctly different opposing elements which battle within every believer, each wanting to have ultimate control, but we can only really serve one at a time.

The one you feed the most, becomes the stronger one, and we get to choose which one we will serve, and the one we serve is our current master.

  64. cbrown says:

Gary, thank you for your response. You have made the comment in the past that you can not take a verse out of context and see its intended meaning. Jesus was telling a Pharisee about spiritual birth and the necessity of being born again. We are not told in these verses but Nicodemus got it.

The only place that you and I disagree is in your 2nd to last paragraph.I would write Spirit of God rather than “spirit of God”and I believe that God’s Spirit in me can never die.

Thanks Cbrown, for yourself it is clear, and so it is for me.
I would like to say with my Utmost of June 20, and 21, I could worry about my salvation, or just accept it that I am righteousness in Christ, and start doing the business of my Father in heaven. Oswald is saying on June 20, God started to bless Job, after he had prayed for his friends!
We are a royal priesthood, and we are in the business of reconciliation!
Pray! Pray for everyone you come in contact with! That’s my way of life. Wake up in the morning and say that this day is Yours again, everything that happens to me You, my God, have orchestrated!
I will bless everyone I come in contact with! And I want to pray in advance for the ones I will meet. That us my Godly ordered life. And I forget to do it often, so I see it as discipline.
I now know that my headaches have been a good training ground, while being ill, and laying on your bed, prayer starts to become very precious!
Intercessory prayer, but it takes awhile that I got it to pray for others, instead of for myself.
Do not worry about yourself! Simply accept that all is well, because in God’s Hands (Psalm 68) and start praying for others!
    Yes!

  66. SFDBWV says:

I was sort of hoping that Mart might have up a new subject this morning, but I am sure like me, he assumes that no matter what subject is presented it will morph into the same old discussion time and time again.

I can provide Chapter and verse that supports my view that you as a Christian can never lose your salvation. Whereas it may encourage some it will only entrench those who close their mind to the concept and truth of the matter.

Let me just say this, If losing your salvation were up to you, yes you could, but it is not up to you it is of and from God, provided for and protected by God. Your salvation is given by God, never earned by you.

Be at peace in Jesus Christ, put your trust in Him not in yourself and you will not be disappointed.

    Good Morning All —

Hope all are well, even in the sense Forever of walking in divine health that defies human understanding. As Julian of Norwich said, “…All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well…”

Took me ’til this morning to get the joke, Mart. You wrote:

“Jesus’ first recorded words are revealing— and maybe a clue to all that follows.”

Revealing — apocalyptic — I get it now. The holy Word of God — Jesus — is provided for living His life — the Life He imparts to us. We, like Jesus, are to be forever “about our Father’s business.”

All is unfolding in the cosmos according to our Creator God’s impeccable plan. Even the old reprobate, Balaam, could not cause God to curse God’s people:

“For there is no omen against Jacob,
    Nor is there any divination against Israel;
At the proper time it shall be said to Jacob
And to Israel, what God has done!” Numbers 23:23

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.”

The answer is in the question! :o)

    Blessings,

  68. poohpity says:

This reminds me of Steve Urkle asking, “did I do that?” or “do I do that?”. It seems Jesus often revealed the motives or the heart condition of the person asking Him questions by asking them questions.

The rich young ruler asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus answered be saying following the law but the rich young ruler thought he had been but his wealth was a god/idol to him so actually he had broken the first three showing that to have eternal life it is not a “what must I do” but rather with God all things are possible.

  69. poohpity says:

From what I have read and understand from the beginning of time “Our Father’s Business” was working to have a relationship with those He created in Their image and that seems to carry through to the end. When His creation missed up the first thing they did was hide from Him. So He shed the blood of an animal to cover them so they would not be ashamed and brought back into fellowship.

So it seems to have been Jesus’ Business to make that final blood sacrifice to bring us into an eternal fellowship with Him that can not be broken because nothing can separate us from His love. The Greek word for nothing, is nothing. Did he ever expect us to mess up again, yes because He knows our hearts and while living in this flesh our tendency is to mess up.

But God wants to have fellowship with us and with each other so He provided, just as He did in the garden, a means so that we no longer have to hide in our guilt and shame. We are now given freedom to make better choices but will we always do that? No! The penalty for those choices has been paid, so now we can freely walk and talk with Him every minute while in the here and now but also for in eternity.

  70. street says:

29 Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings! 30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross. 31 God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins. 32 We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”

  71. street says:

8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”

Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”

9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”

10 Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.”

  72. street says:

“Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. 36 Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. 37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. 38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”

  73. street says:

41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. 42 Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.

    And so it is, Selah!

i think the door was closed while they were gone. they knew He was coming, but they were not prepared. i wonder if the slamming is from closing our own hearts from the grace and forgiveness? thinking of the standard of judgment God uses, the measure you use will be used against you. He also uses His Word, the cross. thinking the questions He asks of us helps us get out of harms way. judgment obedience and faith. tough pickles. we are called to judge rightly, obedience, and faith. yet with out love for God it is nothing.

WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK (HELEN STEINER RICE)

    God’s love endureth forever-
What a wonderful thing to know
When the tides of life run against you
And your spirit is downcast and low . . .

God’s kindness is ever around you,
    Always ready to freely impart
    Strength to your faltering spirit,
Cheer to your lonely heart . . .

God’s presence is ever beside you,
As near as the reach of your hand,
You have but to tell Him your troubles,
    There is nothing He won’t understand . . .

And knowing God’s love is unfailing,
And His mercy unending and great,
You have but to trust in His promise-
“God comes not too soon nor too late” . . .

So wait with a heart that is patient
For the goodness of God to prevail-
For never do prayers go unanswered,
And His mercy and love never fail.

    WHEN I MUST LEAVE YOU

    When I must leave you
    for a little while,
    Please do not grieve
    and shed wild tears
    And hug your sorrow
    to you through the years,
    But start out bravely
    with a gallant smile;
    And for my sake
    and in my name
    Live on and do
    all things the same,
    Feed not your loneliness
    on empty days,
    But fill each waking hour
    in useful ways,
    Reach out your hand
    in comfort and in cheer
And I in turn will comfort you
    and hold you near;
    And never, never
    be afraid to die,
    For I am waiting
    for you in the sky!

    Good Afternoon, All
I pray all is well in your lives! Off topic here… HAPPY (belated) Father’s Day to all of the fathers on this blog site! Haven’t read Mart’s intro comment for this blog topic yet, and I lost an entire comment a few weeks ago because my computer was very sluggish… I forgot to do a “shut down” to let it rest. Today’s ODB devotional was *truly* a blessing to me because the highlighted scripture reference is 1 Cor. 13 (one of my favorite chapters in the Bible)! Well, I hope everyone is having a restful day and a great Spring/Summer! I’ll write more later (today or this week).

91 degrees, very hot and a very blue sky in my neck of the woods…

    LOVE to all,

poo i was thinking of the paradox between mary and Jesus as a son. never intended to imply disobedience.

Jesus knew the difference between right and wrong so well if His parent told Him to do something wrong i think He would have obeyed His Father no matter what the cost. i believe he proved that at the cross. even parents need grace.
