Unimaginable— Part 2

DSC02327

ArtPrize Exhibit

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”

Here Paul seems to give us a loose quote of prophets who saw that God has unimaginable plans for humanity (1Cor 2:9) (Isa 64:3-4). Yet even Isaiah and others could not conceive of what had been revealed to Paul’s readers—that the God of gods had allowed himself to be lifted and nailed, like a rag doll, to an executioners cross. (1Cor 2:8-10).

But does that mean there is nothing left to see? Or is there a childlike wonder waiting for us in a letter that connects the dots between Paul’s obsession with the Cross, the love he describes in chapter 13, and his belief that whatever we now see of the goodness of God— “we see through a glass darkly” (1Cor 13:11-13)?

Good morning Mart and BTA friends. It is 58 degrees windy with silver streaked clouds moving above the dark morning sky.

I stood a while this morning wondering how the eastern and western sky both had that light glow of morning at the same time, after pondering it for a while I just shrugged it off and said “oh well that is odd”, not sure if it were the full moon or the rising of morning that illuminated the clouds in such a way.

I rise every morning not knowing what the day has in store for us and my morning prayers speak of it as I ask for God to bless the day for us and bless us as well.

I can’t “see”, I can only ask and trust.

If I were a follower of the God of the Hebrews alone, I might ask, but be required to perform some ritualistic rite in order to expect a good reply. However because I believe all that has been written of Jesus of Nazareth, I know that He already performed the last and final ritualistic rite on the cross for me.

An act of divine love and grace that allows for me to ask in the dark for a good day for those I love and never worry about it again.

Even if things turn sour, still I am confident that I am in God’s hands and in the end of all things there is, yes, a silver lining in the dark clouds overhead.

Good Morning Mart and Friends —

Still enjoying the mural of “all creatures” that is part of this “Unimaginable” post, Mart!

There is much “left to see” as you propose, it seems to me. The completion of the 1st Corinthian passage cited at the end of your second paragraph is:

“For to us God revealed them (what God has prepared for those who love Him) through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.” (v 10)

Though we may struggle to see “in a mirror dimly” or “through a glass darkly,” we have this Cornerstone, this High Priest, Jesus. Our faith is built upon a foundation that will never be shaken, while everything we know and understand of this age may soon be destroyed.

God sending Jesus to fulfill all His promises — the way He did — was entirely unimaginable. We have good reason to trust that there are marvels and wonders ahead for those who cling to this Savior who loves us and brings us back to Himself more than we can know — except by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

To me, there is great comfort in Paul’s assurance:

Now we have received not the spirit of he world, but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. (I Cor 2:12)

    Blessings,
    Maru

If I did not believe that there is still more to see but believed this is all there is I sure would not have much hope. But God always shows me more. More about Him, the world around me, things about myself, things about others, etc.. It does not stop after we have accepted His sacrifice, actually it is just the beginning because before we did not have the Spirit of God within us and that sure does make a difference in how we see everything.

The wonder and amazement of a child when they have new experiences is available to all of God’s children. A new life is exactly that a new life, a new way of seeing things, a new way of experiencing the world around us, a new way to look at trials, sorrow and suffering and most importantly a new way of living this life together with God.

  4. SFDBWV says:

If you enjoy reading fiction or even novels that could be possibly actual events, one of the enjoyable aspects of reading it is that the author takes you on a journey complete with knowing some inside information, but not all.

Little bits and pieces of information comes with each character and their part in the story to where you slowly begin to see where the author may be taking you.

Some authors’ best talents were twisting the ending so as to surprise the cleverest among us, making the story all the more enjoyable.

In some cases some people like to cheat and read the end of the story first, thinking if they like it they may read the rest of it. In almost every case the ending read first may actually not make any sense and be confusing causing the reader to try and figure how the end worked out as they read along through the book. Spoiling the surprise and making reading it not an enjoyable experience.

In my short and clouded view of our place in this grand story of God and His creation, I have come to learn that it may not be good for us to see too clearly when we are not ready to understand it or appreciate it fully.

It will remain a point of “trusting without seeing until the end of the story and the Author ready to reveal His hidden ending.

Keeping always in mind that “Father Knows Best”.

  5. jeff1 says:

I get glimpses of God’s goodness in this world that encourages my faith in a God whom many today feel distant from.

I understand this for I too have felt distant from God many times in my life.

It requires looking at Christ’s followers of old to realize that God does not always give us clarity.

Paul is someone who can see clearer than most and I believe that is because he was an enemy of God’s in every sense of the word.

What blurred my vision was that I believed I was closer to God then I ever was. I thought it was about keeping the ten commandments and I missed the most important part that God wanted me to know Him on a personal level.

Why was I reluctant to get up close and personal with God?

Firstly, I was not keeping the ten commandments to the book and secondly I had believed wrongly that hell was the place for people like me who failed to keep God’s commands.

My fear of God was not a healthy one but an unhealthy one. It is not until I realized that Christ died for people like me that I truly sought God because my unhealthy fear of God was greater than my love of God.

Faith in God for me personally has not come easy, as a matter of fact I would say ‘struggle’ would be a more accurate description.

I have more times than not leaned on another’s faith for to encourage mine and it has indeed done just that.

The truth is that God is awesome and unimaginable to my way of thinking and I cannot understand His love because it is so much greater than mine.

Who made the mountains, who made the trees
Who made the rivers flow to the sea
And who sends the rain when the earth is dry
Somebody bigger than you and I
Who made the flowers to bloom in the spring
Who made the song for the robins to sing
And who hung the moon and the stars in the sky
Somebody bigger than you and I
He lights the way when the road is long
    He keeps you company
And with His love to guide you
    He walks beside you
Just like He walks with me
    When we’re filled with despair
Who gives me courage to go from there
And who gives me faith that will never die
Somebody bigger than you and I

The childlike wonder of what we are yet to see or experience.

    I Can Only Imagine
    MercyMe

    I can only imagine
    What it will be like
    When I walk
    By your side

    I can only imagine
    What my eyes will see
    When your face
    Is before me
    I can only imagine

Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
    I can only imagine

    I can only imagine
    When that day comes
    And I find myself
    Standing in the Son

    I can only imagine
    When all I will do
    Is forever
    Forever worship You

    I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still

Prayers please had surgery yesterday with minor complications recovery about a week then back to my dr about another issue the surgeon found. Hallelujah!

  8. joycemb says:

Imagine? No imagining here! As I was coming out of anesthesia I kept thinking Hallelujah! And trying to speak out loud but was unable to for a long time yet I knew God was listening and that was sooo comforting:-)

  9. joycemb says:

It’s so good to have that connection with God!

  10. SFDBWV says:

Joyce you certainly have our concerns and prayers for your full and total recovery.

Assuming you had gall bladder surgery, was it orthoscopic?

Happy for your confidence and comfort in being kept in the Lord.

    Feel well.

  11. street says:

But does that mean there is nothing left to see?

Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

Romans 8:24 For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?

Job 19:27 Whom I myself shall behold, And whom my eyes will see and not another. My heart faints within me!

  12. street says:

Or is there a childlike wonder waiting for us in a letter that connects the dots between Paul’s obsession with the Cross, the love he describes in chapter 13, and his belief that whatever we now see of the goodness of God— “we see through a glass darkly” (1Cor 13:11-13)?

    life.

  13. SFDBWV says:

I find as time goes by that I tend to be rhetorical on some of my comments, the same thought just said differently.

I can only speak of my own life experiences, and if someone else’ then only what is said from their perspective not necessarily mine.

The one thing in my understanding of all these religions of this world that separates Christianity from all the others is the hope that being a follower of Jesus of Nazareth brings with it.

Not hope in anything I can do, but in Jesus and His story. I did not see Him nor hear Him speak, I did not see Him crucified nor was I there when the stone was rolled away.

But I believe these things just as if I had seen them.

I want to believe them and that faith in belief becomes all that I can see.

I don’t want troubles nor heartache, I want protected from them, but troubles and heartache come and it is in the ability to rise above them and “look” beyond them when I can “see” God’s hands upon me and the situations.

A glimpse and glimmer of hope that in this life God is still there and because of His Son Jesus, I can have hope to keep on keeping on.

I think we can actually “see” a lot more than we think, just never enough to satisfy our appetite for more.

    Steve

  14. joycemb says:

Thanks Steve and all. It’s called da Vinci surgery with 4 small incisions only. (Think Star Wars)

  19. jeff1 says:

Why is it so hard to imagine what heaven will be like!

If I turn on my television today it is difficult to get anything to watch that does not show violence, sex, or at the very least angry people.

I do have the choice not to watch it but it is still going on in the world whether I watch it or not and others who are watching it are talking of it so the reality of this world means imagining heaven is looking at this world through rose coloured glasses.

For some that may be easier then others but if I look again at the followers of Christ they were well aware of the foolishness of this world especially Paul.

I do not believe that God intended us to walk through this world blindly in other to envisage heaven otherwise He would not have warned us that we would have trials and tribulations.

Jesus knew all too well what it would be like because He had walked the same road, so did His disciples and those who tried to serve Him in one way or another.

I have heard the saying all too often that ignorance is bliss and I have thought it myself on many occasions but ignorance about whom God really is, is anything but bliss for those who see Him through their own eyes and from their own understanding because God is so much bigger than my limited understanding of Him and if I understand Him from only my limited view then there will be huge parts of God’s plan that I will not have understood and missed His intentions in this world completely.

Is ignorance about God learned, yes, my earthly father taught me that, because, he never listened to anyone, either his own understanding or anyone else’s, he was led by the indwelling Holy Spirit and it is why his life reflected someone who understood God’s intention, not after the event, but in the process of it.

My father was consistently aware of the prompting of the indwelling Holy Spirit because he had disciplined his life to Godly thinking and so his thoughts and the Holy Spirit where in harmony producing behaviour of a godliness which is God given and not man driven.

It is in the mind that the confusion lies and as someone with mental illness I do know what I am talking about.

When I wander from His guidance then darkness follows also confusion and despair!

I must follow the light of the world through the indwelling Holy Spirit or I will loose sight of God’s presence in an ever changing world.

  20. poohpity says:

I was thinking the other day and posted on facebook; “Ignorance leads to prejudices, chaos, hatred, injustice, assumptions and jumping to conclusions, knowledge does not it leads to understanding, empathy, justice, facts and wisdom.” There is also another side to knowledge as well it can lead to pride and sometimes the quest for knowledge alone without the wisdom to use it can be disastrous.

It seems there is a good and bad part to almost everything. If left to our own imaginations we can live in a fantasy world but I know for myself I just want to know the truth but even that sometimes is hard to handle. I also realize that I am a student because there is no end to knowledge but the knowledge of God is the beginning of all wisdom then we do not really need to know it all but become satisfied with the revelations that we receive in the time we receive them.

I was talking with a friend at lunch the other day and we were talking about what the government knows that we do not but still treats us like we do not have eyes that see or ears that hear. He worked for the Navy in the 70’s when we were spying on the Chinese, he translated. We both came to the conclusion sometimes what is the use of knowledge when no one really listens to the truth but would rather believe the lies they hear or are told. We laughed about Solomon saying what is the use, lol.

  21. jeff1 says:

    WHY ME LORD?

Why me Lord, what have I ever done
    To deserve even one
    Of the pleasures I’ve known
Tell me Lord, what did I ever do
    That was worth loving you
    Or the kindness you’ve shown.

Lord help me Jesus, I’ve wasted it so
Help me Jesus I know what I am
Now that I know that I need you so
Help me Jesus, my soul’s in your hand.

Tell me Lord, if you think there’s a way
    I can try to repay
    All I’ve taken from you
Maybe Lord, I can show someone else
    What I’ve been through myself
On my way back to you.

Lord help me Jesus, I’ve wasted it so
Help me Jesus I know what I am
Now that I know that I need you so
Help me Jesus, my soul’s in your hand.

  22. poohpity says:

Can you imagine what this world would be without imagination? None of the things we use in our everyday life today would be here if someone did not imagine them.

With what John described in Revelation we only have to imagine so much, he gave us enough to know it is paradise and in the very presence of God

  23. joycemb says:

Thank you Pooh and Chris for prayers, I’m feeling like a c- today but of course thankful for all the good care and comforting words from friends here.

Reading a book ive had for a while on suffering and God’s glory. The author stunned me with this question, “What if God is glorified by love, by how we love one another instead of how we explain suffering?” (Based on the premise that God IS love she asks hard questions about how some popular authors explain suffering as always being “Gods will”). Seems to fit with the blog, for me, today anyway.

  24. SFDBWV says:

As several of us have testified, I like to listen to music, most always it is the music and melody that I enjoy more than the words, but every so often both come together to make a beautiful combination.

One such old hymn sung by Alison Krauss is “Down to the River to Pray”. Found on “You Tube” it is complete with old photographs of throngs of believers down at the river to be either baptized or a part of the ceremony.

Of course among the others I listen to is “Amazing Grace”, and “Hurt” by Johnny Cash, “In the Arms of an Angel” Sarah McLachlan, “The Rose” Bette Midler, “Everything I Do” by Brian Adams and the list goes on and on and yes Joyce “The Sounds of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel is another favorite.

I have most of my adult life been pretty good at finding words to explain what it is I am trying to convey, however such music touches something deep within me, something I cannot clearly explain, especially to myself. My emotions are teased and excited, held captive and let go; during which it seems I can almost “see” something beyond me.

When I try and imagine that which God has in store for me above the cries of this world, I can only imagine that here in this condition I may not be able to bear it. Music as it was intended, color seen and “heard” as created and yes love in its most pure form.

No small wonder the revival chant heard in the Appalachia’s during the 1840’s sang of being “A Lone Wayfaring Stranger” traveling through a world of woe, on the way “home”.

Wherever you are today in your walk with our Lord, I hope you find the music that aids you along the way.

31 degrees and cloudy, no ice problems here.

  25. jeff1 says:

We sang this hymn today which I loved and also our Clergyman prayed for USA and Donald Trump as he is inaugurated this week.

Lord, the light of the world is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me

    Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father’s glory
    Blaze, Spirit, blaze
    Set our hearts on fire
    Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
    Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light

Lord, I come to your awesome presence
From the shadows into your radiance
By the blood I may enter your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me

As we gaze on your kingly brightness
So our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell your story
Shine on me, shine on me

    Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father’s glory
    Blaze, Spirit, blaze
    Set our hearts on fire
    Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
    Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light

…saw that God has unimaginable plans for humanity ….

    progressive revelation comes to mind….

thinking israel was called to be a nation and a people of God where the rest of the world would be blessed.

in the new testament people were call to be disciples or followers…….later called friends of God like Abraham and Moses…..then Peter James and John. then thinking of what Paul and Packer wrote that we are called Son’s of God…..! quantum leap beyond our imagination and far beyond a kingdom of priest. yes Jesus is our High Priest and we will be conformed to His image. just thinking along…

  27. jeff1 says:

    Farther Along

Tempted and tired we’re oft made to wonder why it should be thus all the day long
While there are others living about us, never molested, though in the wrong
When death has come and taken our loved ones, it leaves our home so lonely and dreary
Then do we wonder why others prosper living so wicked year after year
Farther along we’ll know all about it; farther along we’ll understand why
Cheer up, my brother; live in the sunshine, we’ll understand it all by and by
Faithful till death said our loving master; a few more days to labour and wait
Toils of the road will then seem as nothing as we sweep through the beautiful gates
Farther along we’ll know all about it…
Yes, we’ll understand it all by and by

For me it will be unimaginable to stand in the presence of TRUTH. There will be no more arguing, division, pride, fighting because isn’t that what most people develop problems about, what is TRUTH? and everyone thinks they have it. I will no longer have to search for it, to be deceived by one or the other it will be as plain as day and night.

  31. joycemb says:

Jesus said, I am the way, the truth,etc..

Know Jesus, know truth. Everything else becomes a shadow when we are gazing into His eyes.

  33. jeff1 says:

Thinking why we develop problems with the TRUTH because we take our eyes off ‘CHRIST’ and God told us to focus on Him but when do people listen or do what they are told!

Those who focus on Christ walk in the spirit of truth and I seen my father do this and that is why his discernment in life was righteous because he obeyed and kept his focus firmly on Jesus.

If my source is not from Christ then I will wander from the TRUTH because as you say Pooh everyone thinks they have it but that is not so and my father knew his source must come from Christ or he would loose his way in this world.

My father had the wisdom to know God’s way would not align with man’s way.

  34. street says:

    Unimaginable

thinking about truth, this thought can to mind. it was the first question God asked man after the rebellion.

    Genesis 3:9
But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

seem to me we have been asking the same question.
dose this sound like an echo?
waiting for the moment of truth.

  35. SFDBWV says:

Watched again Morgan Freeman’s narration of National Geographic’s series on “Searching for God”.

Amusing that so many of the questions put forth in the program are discussed by us here over and over again.

It could be said that many of the religions all separate good from evil and possess admirable qualities.

But as I watched it became clear that every single one of them had one thing in common, all of the religions of the world with the exception of Christianity, deny Jesus of Nazareth as being the Son of God and or God in the flesh.

All place some form of gaining being good or rewarded for being good on the individual’s working it out through a matter of making choices.

Some are quite involved as partaking of ritualistic rites of cleansing or riding of evil spirits, all dependent on some action of theirs or an intercessor in cleansing ones soul.

It all reminded me of the story of the Bible in that God had to make a special people to reintroduce Himself to a world filled with “imagination.”

On a footnote I was once again repulsed by “religious experts” who made intellectual claims that are just plain inaccurate or false, but given to an uninformed ear as being facts.

The Russians have a saying “Trust but verify” perhaps they learned this bit of wisdom from Peter who established churches in what became their country when he said “Test every spirit”.

It is observationally interesting how so many are led astray and follow every sort of religion and deny the “Truth” in favor of the “lie”

It is almost “unimaginable” how foolish people can be.

Sorry seem to have posted what I thought I had deleted and don’t know how this happened but you can scroll down to the paragraphs which are relevant.

I did not know what Arminianism was so I looked it up and found it is teaching regarding salvation associated with the Dutch theologian Jacob Arminius (1560-1609) and the fundamental principle is the rejection of predestination and a corresponding affirmation of the freedom of the human will.

I was about to answer your post, Steve, and I was looking for something about those whom God has chosen and that is where the spirit lead me so hope it helps to clarify.

  37. SFDBWV says:

Viv I didn’t see whatever it was you erroneously posted, but predestination is a wide open subject all of its own.

In fact the Presbyterian Protestant church is all about it.

Without getting deeply into it, God will do what God will do and if it means forcing His will over that of another than He will, as evidenced with Pharaoh.

Hope you are having a “super excellent day”.

    Steve

  38. jeff1 says:

Thank you Steve I am having a very good day and hope yours is too. Yes, when I read parts of the post on it, I found it was very involved but I also realized that I have always believed in predestination.

Yes, God, does what He has to do and that is what gives me peace of mind in this world that I can trust He is all powerful.

  39. joycemb says:

Mart I think we can get so easily caught up in the crucifixion -the pain of this world- that its sometimes hard to imagine life beyond, the world to come that as Paul said we can only barely see now. We have Gods nature within yet live as Christ did here before His resurrection. There is no permanent escape from pain, yet for the hope we have we are able to get up, face another day -as a child would- and allow God to lead, guide, and direct our pathway through. Blessings to my fellow children of God with thanks for all He has done and will do!

  40. jeff1 says:

Very well said Joyce, if it is not our own pain then it is the pain of others (my friend’s mother is going through breast cancer and she said it is no walk in the park).

There is no escape from pain in this world and yet it seems to me that it is when life is at it’s worst that people pull together.

    A peculiar people indeed.

  41. joycemb says:

I agree Viv seeing others go through pain can be just as painful. There is no shortage of it in the world. Pulling together really helps though.

  42. SFDBWV says:

I have always had an apatite for the “bizarre” or weird things in life. In my younger days such oddities as ghost’s or supernatural events of any kind always grabbed my attention and to some degree still does.

If you look the Bible is filled with “supernatural” events, almost “unimaginable” and for many too much to believe.

Was the universe with all its stars and planets created in 6 days? The Bible says so. Did a man and his family build a ship and fill it with two animals of every kind and then survive a worldwide flood? The Bible says so.

How was it that Enoch did not die, but was “taken” up by God? What was it that Elisha tried to describe when Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven (2 Kings 2:11) KJV?

What was it that Ezekiel saw when he saw the Wheel (Ezekiel 1:4-28)?

Remember what it was that was seen once God opened the eyes of the young man and he saw the mountains full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha (Kings 6:17).

I can continue all through the “minor prophets” and the visions they attempted to describe from their own abilities, yet all remain at the edge of being indescribable or “unimaginable”.

And certainly all of the Book of Revelation is filled with what John tried to explain in what he saw, indescribable and in part unimaginable.

What is it we have in store for us as children of God, remains unimaginable because of our inability to see or properly express, only that it is above and beyond our ability to.

Every suffered moment of our lives here will be forgotten in the joys of the eternal life God has prepared for us, small wonder none of us want to be here, but long for that far off life promised by God and provided for by His Son and our Lord Jesus of Nazareth.

    35 and foggy.

  43. jeff1 says:

As the song goes ‘everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die’.

So eventually God brings us to the end of ourselves because it is there that we find God has always been with us in places, people and events that made up our life.

There are times in my life when God’s presence is overwhelming but equally there are times when He seems so distant and unapproachable.

My faith has been like a roller coaster ride so it is not surprising my vision of God is somewhat patchy.

If it where only for my faith I do not think I would still have faith in God so that says that the people in my life very much contributed to my faith remaining in tact.

It also convinces me that I am part of a bigger plan that God is omniscient over and when He wants me to know my part He will bring me to that knowledge or as Steve as said He will erase the suffering from my/our lives in the joys of the eternal life He has prepared for us.

Unimaginable, Overwhelming, Awesome, Amazing are just some of the words I can think of when I think of God, and in many ways why I sometimes understand why so many in todays world cannot believe that HE IS; so how blessed are we to know Him in all the different moments of our lives that He has revealed Himself to us and will reveal to us in the days ahead.

Why me Lord? is what I wonder today because I know deep down in my heart that ‘I am not worthy’ of such an HONOUR.

  44. poohpity says:

It is God who opens our eyes, hearts and minds to His presence. He gives us our faith and He grows our faith. Everything about Him comes from Him. Every gift we have been given to serve Him, comes from Him.

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body[a] and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.[b] 4 But[c] God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. What were you saying Joyce? Isn’t that too grimm?
It was something I didn’t not want to mention, I was concerned about Europe, and the western part of it not being content, while the eastern countries would love to join. The unity of Europe,
But then I get this dream on monday night, it is about the United States, the people of US hold their country in their hands, it looks like a big metal plate, then the people decide: we will break up the country, and they start snapping in the metal and cut it in pieces.
With the reason: we better break up the country, so that the enemy will see not reason anymore to attack us.

I woke up, and started to pray for the unity of the United States. “O God, do not let this happen!”
And in the same time I was thinking: God is all powerful, but He gave man free-will. If man decides this is what he wants, God lets him, if it does not interfere with His plans.
Like for instance, Jonah decided to run away from God. God let him, the plan for Jonah was only delayed.
We as humans can delay what God wants.

What if we would be united, first and foremost, the christians, united in Jesus Christ. On the essential things, that the Salvation, our Redemption comes through the Cross of Christ. Not on details, so many details where we can argue about.
And the power we could have praying.
The power of God working on our prayers, done in faith, and in unity.

I pray for the unity of the US, and the unity of the christians of the US, not fighting with each other, but being in humbleness servants of God: being intercessors.

(Intercessory prayer, the big theme of Oswald Chambers)

    Street’s verse:
If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.

  52. foreverblessed says:

And with “obedient” I mean, being intercessors for the country.
“We have this ministry of reconciliation”

  54. SFDBWV says:

I too have been troubled in my spirit for today and not really knowing why.

I could imagine a great many things, and do pray none of them occur, with the exception of the “rapture” which we in our home pray for all the time.

It is no secret that I am pleased that Hilary Clinton, whom I call Jezebel, did not win, however I am not pleased with Trump, only with the hope his political allies can help heal the wounds that 8 years of the Obama administration have created.

I have been politically active my entire adult life, but have never seen it worse than right now. The fall of America began in the 60’s with the extreme left draft dodging, dope smoking, and drop out turn on generation taking control of our nation’s destiny. All of their protests disguised as antiwar demonstrations, but in reality were an anti-establishment move to change the heart of America and not for the good, but for the worse.

The Democratic Party that once was the base for the working class American was taken over by racists, atheists, extremists and anti-nationalist agents of the anti-christ.

The result being where we are today. The very same people who have helped to ruin America are now appalled that we as a nation want to return to a God fearing law abiding people more attuned to the generation of the 50’s than that of the 60’s.

They refuse to accept the election and so are back out in numbers demonstrating their lack of tolerance for anything except getting what they want.

The only thing that keeps us from armed rebellion is the will of God and His time table. If we were like any South American, African or Mid-eastern nation, with the exception of Israel, we already would have an armed rebellion going on.

So yes we do need prayer, and a cleansing of our nation, but I fear the cleansing won’t come until after the rapture and the tribulation come.

It can be said that the earnest prayers of Godly people can bring about revival and postpone judgement, but only until God remove the Godly and His Word be accomplished.

Be not deceived, keep your eyes and heart on Jesus and listen to His Spirit that sometimes screams in our hearts since His still small voice is sometimes drowned out by all the noise of the world.

34 degrees and rain in the mountains.

AMEN. You expressed my feelings almost in exact detail Steve!! I realized this morning that a poem I wrote in the 90’s is more fit for this decade. I copied it to this laptop, but I am pretty sure there is more.. I will have to check the original in paper form.. In fact all of the poems I wrote in the 90’s are more fit for this decade.

    Land of the Blind
A darkness has fallen upon the land
once under God and prodigiously grand
    now undergoing chaotic decline
more aptly discerned as the land of the blind
Prayer was banned for the little ones
Power and comfort are now drugs and guns
Yet those liable can’t see what they’ve done
Deceiving themselves that some victory was won
Disdaining power from God to mere man
Believing their fate is in their own hands
His word and power they think they have blocked
Paying no heed that God won’t be mocked
False prophets have risen as He forewarned
Violence and tragic deaths we have mourned
Searching for answers from Godless men’s minds
when it’s in His word the answers, we’ll find
The rains have come and the crops have grown
Now we are reaping all that we’ve sown

  56. joycemb says:

Yes it is grim Forever, however even as we pray the feeling is grim. Our country is so divided and no one knows how this is going to play out, but it does effect us while we live in the body. Praying is a given in these and all circumstances of life. Though we know our heavenly future

  57. joycemb says:

our day to day is at a precipice we can only imagine, and things don’t look good right now. Its a big shaking up for us. And the older one gets the less shaking one needs to get dizzy and disturbed. I’m disturbed which is why I pray today. Thank you for your prayers also! Blessings, Joyce

  58. SFDBWV says:

Pearl your poem says to me what your heart was saying to you when you penned it.

In one of my older well-worn Bibles in between pages and folded in within are not so much poems but “things” I was led to write down. Things that as I look back at are very preparatory and prophetic to me and my family’s lives. As well as a general look at the world around me.

    Also written in the 90’s

It would appear that God was speaking to and through us both.

I only had a moment in between things, but when I seen your post wanted to take the time to say how much I appreciated your comments.

  59. narrowpathseeker says:

Thank you Steve. I just got finished watching Donald Trump being sworn in.. I was very pleased the protestors didn’t get the attention that they are seeking…at least not yet. I loved the prayers and the fact that the oath was taken on two bibles.. one used by president Lincoln and the other given to Mr Trump by his mother in 1955. I liked very much what he had to say and will be praying that he lives up to it. I also had a heartfelt memory ignited at the site of the Rabbi that spoke…he looked just like the most caring loving doctor that delivered me into this world as well as my first 4 children!! Dr. Nathaniel Moses Spector!!! He even spoke like him.. He was a Jewish man who would never charge me because he knew I was young and struggling financially. I had paid him cash when he delivered my first child and he didn’t want to take it!! After that he would say it was his Christmas present to me or my Easter present…etc…keep in mind he was Jewish and didn’t celebrate those holidays…he was just a beautiful man!!!

Ok sorry …didn’t mean to get all melancholy on y’all… found another poem that I wrote in the same time frame as other. Would LOVE to see the “things” that you wrote during that time frame Steve.

Caught in a moment, so unaware
Precious time wasted, so little to spare
Ultimate knowledge of the Creator Himself
For a blink of self glory, put on the shelf
The “I’s” and the “me’s” overpower the “you’s”
The “won’t’s” and the “don’t’s” over the “do’s”
All diced and blended in blasphemous stew
Great gluttons feast and the “we’s” have no clue
Caught in the moment..given to fad
The applauding of freaks, the greedy, the bad
Ignoring the signs that all have been had
Adorned in false pride, in ignorance clad

I remember now that there was a lot of anger in the composition of most of my poems. In retrospect I guess in hypocritical fashion, a touch of my own false pride and self righteousness went into them as well.

I am so excited about the path our new President is going down. More “We the People” and less “we the government” which has been totally inept at solvo9ng any problems our country is facing. The government has been more problem causing than problem solving and I look so forward to healing in our land and am so glad the people finally spoke out against the overreach of the government.

I have not heard the name of Jesus mentioned so many times in one day than it was today when it came to Washington DC. When Franklin Graham went to the capitals of all fifty states and lead us in prayer for our country, I believe with all my heart that God heard those prayers.

Now people can see who it was that was causing so much hate and division up on capital hill. The people’s voice was finally heard.

  62. poohpity says:

Pearl I find that the best reading here always comes from the heart of the contributor. Being melancholy opens up that heart too many try to hide under a litany of disguises.

Thank you for your honesty and a peek inside.

I was surprised that Matt wanted to watch the inaugural events and so we enjoyed watching it together complete with a thousand questions.

I was particularly bolstered by the fact that there were I think 5 Christian speakers offering prayers and the Rabbi you also mentioned.

Jesus was represented at the inauguration. No mention of our not being a Christian nation as the previous administration did.

A local marching band (Frankfort High School) near Cumberland MD participated in the inaugural parade which made watching a little more exciting. I was uplifted by the quality of the many participants in the parade and once again along with the entire day made me proud to be an American.

What a contrast to the anarchist hoodlums represented by the protests and rioting going on elsewhere.

With each new presidential election comes the hope of what we can accomplish as a people and if I may segue this into our topic whereas we can imagine a better future for us all, the future will most likely present something we did not imagine at all.

It is so difficult for people like my son Matthew and so many others to hear well-meaning people tell them that God has a wonderful future in store for them when they cannot image anything but the suffering they are experiencing and want so desperately to have a quality of life right now.

Counterproductive to tell a person that their only hope in a better life comes only after they are dead.

Sometimes it is better to say only that we love someone rather than try and explain God or His motives.

I am enjoying our mild winter even if it is only a month old, it is a month closer to June the 1st.

I was taken by you inclusion of the statement “put on the shelf” in your poem. I have felt that way for Matt and I since this season of our lives began, that we are set aside or put on a shelf, provided for and protected awaiting God’s time when He is ready for us to be taken down again.

Be blessed and enjoy all you have.

  65. poohpity says:

It is unimaginable not to be able to try new things or to live an abundant life because we are frightened to try those new things. The only thing that keeps us trapped most often is only us or the fear of failure so we limit the things we try.

Having worked with those in the special needs community it was them who pushed me not to worry what others said or whether I would be embarrassed if I failed. Most of them had accomplished more than some of the regular people their age had.

Being created by God He has given us the drive to always be more, the courage to grow and face difficulties in this world with His help. I look at those who come back from war without some limbs and traumatic brain injuries but they just keep on going pushing themselves. I feel embarrassed myself by the things I say I can’t do without even trying so therefore it is me that cripples myself even further but when I go for it what a sense of accomplishment which prompts further attempts at other things. Sadly there are times when I would rather feel sorry for myself rather than trying and failing.

Real failure is when I do not even try. Most successful people fail and fail until that one time when they succeed then they try the next step. It is unimaginable what God can do in people’s lives when we get out of the safe surroundings, the boat if you will. He will take us further than we ever thought.

Of course there already have been some casualties and more to find.

    Hi Regina

The original poutine recipe is french fries topped with hot gravy which melts the cheese curds so that it becomes long and string when you take the fork to your mouth. People have added variations to that and have “built” their own versions. So yes, it is quite possible for someone to build a poutine with some or all those ingredients depending on their taste buds. When I get the nerve and craving to have a heart attack, I prefer to have just the gravy and cheese curds on top of the french fries. lol

There’s a risk freezing drizzle overnight with temperatures around the -1C. Tomorrow night into Tuesday the forecast calls for up to 6 inches of snow mixed with ice pellets. It has been a mild winter with below normal snowfall amounts. I am still counting the days to March 21.

Thinking of Gary this evening and I pray he is okay. My thoughts and prayers also go out to the families of those who were killed and to those affected by the tornadoes in the southeastern States.

There are books, poems, songs, cults, religions, scientific and an ever continued interest in the idea that everything happens for a reason. That there are no chance meetings, no flat tires or red lights that aren’t a part of what lay ahead because of the momentary delay.

How very different it would be if before we took every step, we could see ahead and know exactly what was about to unfold in each and every turn we might take.

For some of us we never take that step, only stand motionless afraid of what it is we might see in store for us at any turn.

Perhaps there is a “Divine” reason why we only see through a glass darkly, only hints and glimpses of the unimaginable future and end of all things as we know them.

Maybe, just maybe it is as that old dream I had so many years ago said to me as I walked up that mountain slope amid tough going in the darkness with only lamp light to guide my way; “This is the way you have to go, but don’t worry you will make it.”

It is a very windy day here in the mountains with snow mixed in with the drizzle at 37 degrees.

Faith is about what is hoped for and not what is seen and if I have not understood by now that I can not trust on my own understanding then I have not understood God and what He is doing in this world.

Though my knowledge of the characters in the bible is very limited I can see that their faith came at a price.

I cannot see in a modern world where many have turned away from God that it would be any different.

Known only to Him are the great hidden secrets
I’ll fear not the darkness when my flame shall dim
I know not what the future holds
But I know who holds the future
It’s a secret known only to Him

In this world of fear and doubt
On my knees I ask the question
Why a lonely, heavy cross I must bear
Then He tells me in my prayer
    It’s because I am trustworthy
He gives me strength far more than my share

Known only to Him are the great hidden secrets
I’ll fear not the darkness when my flame shall dim
I know what the future holds
But I know who holds the future
It’s a secret known only to Him

I found it interesting, the stubbornness of some “scientist’s/doctor’s” who just deny the possibility of a separate existence between the body and the soul. So try then to find a neurological explanation for the human experience of after death experiences.

It was not so different during the time Jesus walked and taught upon the earth.

The Pharisee’s believed in an afterlife while the Sadducee’s did not.

Jesus explained it first by stating that God told Moses that He, God, “Am” the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Even though these men were long dead God said am because these men still lived.

He also told the story of Lazarus and the Rich man and where their souls were after their “deaths”.

As well as explaining the story of the widow of the seven brothers and whose wife she would be in the resurrection as an introduction of correcting the thinking of the Sadducee’s.

If we don’t believe in an afterlife, then what we do in this life only matters as to what we can gain in this life. Jesus said what would it gain to have the whole world and lose ones soul.

If we didn’t believe in an afterlife, anything we did in this life would not affect the next.

In essence we could do whatever and fear no repercussions or judgments as long as we got away with it in our life on earth.

It seems to me whereas some of us see through a glass darkly, some also have put on blinders so they only see what they want.

We received about 4 inches of wet clinging heavy snow yesterday, its 32 degrees and flurries this morning.

I think that is what is wrong in the world today religions have taken over from Jesus.

Unbelievers see God through religion and they do not like what they see.

Last week it was announced that there was child abuse in care homes for children over a period of 73 years and many of those taking care were so called God fearing religious people.

It is difficult to understand how this abuse could take place without others putting blinkers on.

During the height of the troubles I can recall a young English soldier saying to me that for a Christian country he did not see too many Christians so there is a very big difference in calling oneself a ‘Christian’ and behaving like one.

As my clergyman said to me the other day this country is not as ‘good’ as it portrays itself to be.

We are going to the election polls in march because our power sharing assembly could not rule the country without misuse of funding causing it to collapse.

The political party responsible for the misuse of funding portrays itself to be a Christian one so it is not surprising that there is much confusion in this country or in this world today.

The blinkers go on as soon as I take my eyes off ‘Jesus’ because He is the only light in the world that I should be following.

    Good Morning BTA Friends —

    Steve, you wrote:

“Perhaps there is a “Divine” reason why we only see through a glass darkly, only hints and glimpses of the unimaginable future and end of all things as we know them.”

When I awake from an anxiety dream, as I did this morning, it is a profound source of comfort to hold fast to our Resurrected Lord. It seems to me many here have a sense of a massive social and economic shift now taking place in all nations. It is as though I sense something “just around the corner.” Institutions are eroding in their integrity and authority.

We could be headed for a revival of true faith in God and His Christ — or we might be headed for conditions that mirror the time of the judges in which “there was no king in Israel; all the people did what was right in their own eyes.”

The circumstances of life (whether personal or national or global) can pivot in an instant — the twinkling of an eye — it seems to me. Have seen it in the lives of those I care for and in my own life as well.

I came into the circle of BTA in 2011 when I was navigating a major shift in my own life and circumstances. Perhaps another change is brewing…may the Lord hold us fast in the end and in the beginning.

    Blessings all day,
    Maru

Good prayer Maru, I just spent a couple hours on the phone with a friend who like me is struggling with major changes in our personal and national lives. Hold on tight to Jesus hand, the whirlwind is fast approaching! God bless us all and keep us in thy tender care.
