Caring too Much

I began today in an updated edition of Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening devotional.

The text is “Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you.” Psa 55:22.

The words that followed were hard for me to deny. We can care too much. The thought surprised me by hiding behind the assumption that we can never love too much those we’d be willing to live and die for.

Without taking anything from those entrusted to our care, and without implying that a no-worry rule could solve our problems, is it possible that, when our worries for others begin to feed on our trust in God—what we assume to be our best intentions—are not?

One of the first thoughts that came to mind Mart after reading your thoughts this morning was that by caring just enough is how anything gets done.

The idea that you can care too much sounds more like an obsession than caring.

I think of all the little booklets I have seen or read that says that if you are to intercede by prayer for others and we are to be constant in our prayers. That if we don’t get the answer we ask for to keep it up until we do. Citing the parable from Jesus about the man who had a guest and in the middle of the night went to a neighbor and banged on his door for bread until he got what it was he needed.

I personally have had doctors tell me I should worry more about my health than worrying about taking care of Matthew. But that isn’t how the entire story of caring for others is defined in Scripture; both old and new.

If a person lays down their life for another has that person cared too much for another?

At the top of my look at this concept my feelings are that I disagree in principal, but have to look at there being some instances when an obsession is not a healthy condition of caring.

53 and another wet morning. Looks like Memorial weekend is going to be a wet one here.

Wonderful thought, Mart. I think the Lord has been working on me along this very line. I can’t continue to carry the burdens I’ve been trying to carry. And like you point out here, it’s not helpful for others. Good thought to think on more. Thanks.

    Good Morning BTA Friends —

11C/51F in the valley this morning. Looks as though fair weather will stay for this long Memorial Day week-end. We are due, since the extreme winter/spring rainfall has wiped out drought conditions in the coastal west.

Your comment “Caring Too Much” strikes a chord with me this morning, Mart. As caregivers, we Jesus-followers can sometimes ignore our own needs — substituting the needs of others and escaping the frustration and pain of personal disappointment.

The evening Bible study I attend is reading “Sacred Pathways” by Gary Thomas. The book explores nine spiritual temperaments from finding God in nature — through various spiritual pathways such as tradition or political activism — all the way to experiencing God through intellect.

The path of caregiver is one of them. The writer says that there are temptations in each pathway. For caregivers, the act of caring for others can be self-serving. When a caregiver reaches out to others so that they will love them in return, the care becomes a means of satisfying our own need. This could become toxic — no longer motivated by love for God.

The “words that follow” verse 22 in Psalm 55 are:

    “But You, O God, will bring them down to the pit of destruction;
Men of bloodshed and deceit will not live out half their days.
But I will trust in You.”

It seems to me, the poet (David) is struggling with treachery in his life — most probably political intrigue and betrayal. Recall that even his own son, Absalom, plotted to overthrow David’s rule in Jerusalem. One he cared for had evil intentions toward him.

    Blessings all day,
    Maru

Caring too much seems to have the results of what has been created in the entitlement generation. Shielding or protecting people from experiencing pain, struggles, trials by just doing everything for them cripples their growth.

Some examples have been giving trophies to all young players in sports rather than those who practiced harder to win. It used to be first, second and third place but now everyone gets a trophy. Or safe zones for those who disagree with others in colleges, lol, when debate helps us learn from hearing differing views. Now it boils down to hate and rejection for others who think differently. Those are just a couple of examples for now.

  5. joycemb says:

That’s a good point Maru, to examine our motives when doing any type of caregiving. For me the test comes when someone I care about doesn’t do what I think is right or expedient to do. If I find myself getting angry or frustrated even its then I know I have let myself become wiser than God. What a trap!

However if I focus on Christ in me as Jesus prayed for us that we would be one with the Father I can learn more of Gods ways by being patient with God and what He is teaching me through the difficulty. Being mindful means having my thoughts set on things above and not below. It’s a daily sometimes minute by minute practice. And of course we can turn our anguish over to God as both bubbles and Viv have shared, along with our joys and happiness.

  6. SFDBWV says:

Maru the book you are exploring sounds interesting I may have to look into getting a copy.

Remembering that being alive and living each day is an interwoven experience in interacting with people and with God. Every experience can be seen relevant to the other.

Matt likes to watch “Friends” on TV in the afternoon. Anything funny is good. I mention this because there is an episode that explores the idea that there are no selfless deeds.

If we feel good about doing something good we are equally served by our “good deeds”.

In fact when we believe that we are being obedient to God and living a holy life for Him, it is for our benefit that we do.

For me there is a difference between caring enough and being obsessed to a point of frustration because you have no control.

God wants top billing or first place in your heart, if you replace God with someone you may have problems. But I am sure God understands when you love someone and care for their wellbeing that at least you are on the right pathway.

Simply stated a parent can adore and love their children, but their children will have their own life make their own decisions and mistakes; all a parent can do is raise them up in the Lord, pray for them care for them and be there whenever they need you.

If you are willing to die for another and Jesus says that is the ultimate sacrifice with no condemnation applied. I am not so sure you can care too much.

The issue may be how the care is applied more than caring itself.

    Betwixt and between.

  7. street says:

seems to me mart that you and the rest of us are touching on the deference of coveting and loving. only God can separate the two. love is one thing and trust is another. when the two come together in a sinful world there is going to be conflict. when they come together in Christ there is peace, even in a hurricane. david and job had some pretty low times, but their faith held them firm immovable. faith in the One, unchanging steadfast love. born of God.

thinking of the utterly free manner in which God can accomplish His will. thinking, the destination, is the presents of God. i can see why Jesus told His disciples they would long for one of the days He had spent with Him. take hold of His outstretch hand, by faith.

  8. street says:

    the trauma of caring?

  9. poohpity says:

We can take the example of God’s care for us. He does not micromanage our lives, he cares enough to let us fail, fall, struggle and then we look to Him to brush us off, stand us up and go on our way but not to overly protect us from the consequences of our behavior and choices. It is in those times we learn the most and they develop our trust and dependence on God.

I think there are times that God carries us but more often than not just walks alongside us. Carrying to much is like helicopter parents who will not allow their child to take any steps on their own.

I think in other words caring to much is similar to overly controlling and then telling the person it is in their best interest to do so.

  10. joycemb says:

I think that sometimes ones understanding of God can cause a caregiver to either do too much or too little. Like you said street and I agree, whatever we do in Christ we have the assurance of peace, and I’ll add, no man can take it away. It’s easy to judge another’s parenting but the loving way is to get involved to help if possible. Love is patient after all, like God:-)

  11. street says:

The thought surprised me by hiding behind the assumption that we can never love too much….

the idea of a sinful man loving is insane.
only by a new heart can we love.

the idea we can love more or care more than God is from hell.

another thought that i came across was the idea that we can experience joy and suffering in circumstances we have nothing to do with. like vicarious living. i guess this is why the entertainment industry is so big, yet quite empty. vicarious caring? just thinking.

  12. street says:

without implying that a no-worry rule could solve our problems, is it possible that, when our worries for others begin to feed on our trust in God—what we assume to be our best intentions—are not?

to solve our problem by not caring? isn’t caring a requirement? isn’t it the first charge of the accuser and the murmurer? is our caring bring us to the point of being and intercessor? bringing a tangible asset to a person in need is a good thing, but God never overlooked the spiritual life need of and individual. many people could not see what He was doing and that did not stop Him from doing His Fathers will. the amazing thing is other people could not stop Him either.

And Jesus said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings out of his treasure things new and old.”

  13. joycemb says:

Vicarious, yet, we all have the same emotions, unless you’re a complete narcissist. Our emotions are what tie us to each other or repel us from each other. God says love Him first of all and our neighbors as ourselves, which doesn’t specify which neighbors except through Jesus’ example we know who our neighbor is. Mercy mercy mercy!

  14. street says:

    Vicarious

    adjective
    1.
performed, exercised, received, or suffered in place of another:
    vicarious punishment.
    2.
taking the place of another person or thing; acting or serving as a substitute.
    3.
felt or enjoyed through imagined participation in the experience of others:
    a vicarious thrill.
    4.
Physiology. noting or pertaining to a situation in which one organ performs part of the functions normally performed by another.

my thoughts drifted more towards God and the way He has dealt with the catastrophe. feeling joy sorrow pain suffering love mercy graciousness……faithfulness.
made in His image. the relationship between parent and children mentioned in the last post trauma.

  15. bubbles says:

A problem with this world is that not enough people care. Caring too much? I do not understand.

When a friend is falling apart and they throw you under the bus and criticize and say what should have been done…how one should have prepared for something to happen, it is painful. Many people make mistkaes becuase they mean well but way thing out of ignorance and it hurts badly. And in turnit causes the one that was hurt to withdraw from people and want to throw away every friendship they have.

  16. bubbles says:

I am sorry, I do not understand this topic at all. I have not understood the last several.

  17. joycemb says:

Street I knew I was taking vicarious in another direction than you were but that’s how I think :-). I enjoy your thoughts though, just have a hard time going where you do sometimes especially when they are so profound!

  18. joycemb says:

Bubbles I hope this makes you feel a little better. Once I was in a seminar led by a psychologist about working with violent disabled individuals. I shared about how a client had gotten behind me and put me in a headlock, laughed, then let me go. I was hoping for guidance but the psych said rather bruschly, “he could have killed you, you shouldn’t have let him get behind you!. I was
embarrassed and ofnfended, which he saw and immediately apologized. The shame lingered for a while. But I did get over and past it. Maybe your upset will pass eventually?

  19. joycemb says:

Bubbles you are a very special and caring person.

  20. jeff1 says:

Yes, I can care too much and it is painful because the person you care for is being destructive and it is not within your power to stop it though you have done everything within your power.

In the end you find that you have to trust God that He will work in their life as He did in your own life when you wandered from His ways.

God works both knowingly and mysteriously so I must leave to God that which is not in my power to influence and focus on what I can do.

When I did my part i.e. supporting him in practical and financial ways God did the rest.

Let God come in and out of other lives as He does your own and instead of worrying about the outcome you will see Him making good come from otherwise bad choices.

I can become overwhelmed by defeat but when I cast my burdens on Him, He makes a way for my loved one and consequently gives me peace of mind beyond my own understanding.

    Lordy, only believe, only believe
    All things are possible
    If you’ll only believe
My Lordy, only believe, yes only believe
    All things are possible
    If you’ll only believe

I met God one morning my soul feeling bad
Heart heavy laden I felt fire doubt ahead
Well He lifted all my burdens, yeah, right now I’m feeling glad
    All things are possible
    If you’ll only believe

    I believe, yeah! I believe,
    All things are possible
    If you’ll only believe

  21. mtman says:

I agree with Bubbles that I think there is not enough caring in the world or in the least too much apathy. I would suggest that Spurgeon is human and not divinely inspired and totally subject to being wrong like the rest of us. These writers who are “spiritual” are not infallible and taking their thoughts as 100% correct is dangerous. We need to balance their comments with what it says in the bible and no where do I find that we can care so much that we drift away from God. Absurd…

As to withdrawing because we have been or are being hurt there is some merit to that and it is not totally wrong in my opinion. The community we live in is vicious to say the least. Gossip and back stabbing is a highly respected sport and some of us, because we are Christian, are ready victims.

Hence we stay alone but we have our four dogs for company, my wife is a leader for an online Christian worldwide missionary group, I have my writing and we worship on line. Because we practice what we believe and do good and respect others we are targets for the many mean spirited people. Life is to short to constantly live with people like this. We stay by ourselves and are very happy because we have other non hurtful interests.

I maintain a blog, write for a national magazine, and my wife has her missionary work. We are living the Christian life as best we can and hence are the ‘goody two shoes’ that need to be brought down a few notches.

Life is to short to go through it fighting with those who wish you harm.

  22. poohpity says:

Mart asked; “Without taking anything from those entrusted to our care, and without implying that a no-worry rule could solve our problems, is it possible that, when our worries for others begin to feed on our trust in God—what we assume to be our best intentions—are not?

Care and compassion for others is from a heart of love however what I think Mart was leading us to think about is taking it beyond care and compassion to a point of being in excess beyond trusting in God to something of a self serving action that is not actually in the best interest of another sort of like smothering someone rather than actually doing what is good for them. That does not mean to stop caring or having compassion but taking it to a whole other level to where it can hinder someone emotionally or spiritually.

  23. poohpity says:

In counseling it is called an enabler–A person who facilitates the self-destructive behavior of another. They have the best intentions in mind but do not realize that allowing the person to continue in the behavior stops change and growth.

How about when you see a little child in the store throwing a tantrum to get something they want and the parent allows that behavior to continue and then gives in to them by buying what they wanted so they will stop crying. The parent maybe does not want the child to cry anymore so with good intentions of satisfying the child. However it only teaches the child they can throw a tantrum when they want anything and it will given to them.

A parent who actually does care for them teaches them that throwing a tantrum is not the way to get something by taking the child outside of the store until they stop the tantrum. Then finishes shopping but if the child continues to act up they stop shopping and take the child home. Teaching the child when you want something ask for it and I will either say no or yes but throwing a fit will never work. Even some adults still do that when they want something because they have never been taught any different.

I hope I am understanding what you are getting us to think about Mart. I may have missed the point which is not hard for me these days.

  24. street says:

thinking people could care too much? is that possible? or how about this, loving too much? if it could be measure or doled out in increments you might be dealing with a counterfeit. there is a worldly perspective and a Devin perspective. we are well versed in the worldly. i hear we have an Advocate to help us with the Devin perspective. when you become a judge of love and care you no longer are a provider of love and care. same with teacher student relationship vs. a servant. knowledge wisdom will obedience. and with out grace the whole thing falls into condemnation. God, Jesus is more precious then we can ever imagine. did i forget mercy here?

don’t get me wrong about judging, sometimes we are called on to do this, juries elections law enforcement. by there very nature judgment. not to mention division or disagreements in the church matters.

when a person is in great pain it is hard to care for some one else s perspective. the pain of pride, self righteousness, and self-centered. pain tends to put us in fight or flight mode or even panic/freeze.

mart do you think the mind/physiological response is a result of not following Christ by faith and living by worldly senses? thinking of gethsemane here.

well mart, be thinking some more.

  25. street says:

I hope I am understanding what you are getting us to think about Mart. I may have missed the point which is not hard for me these days.

poo you have not missed the point, love sometimes says “No” the fun part is the receiver trying to figure out why? paul had to accept “no” in regard to a thorn in the flesh. don’t think he got his answer this side of eternity. Jesus got No in gethsemane, but was open for it.
i think He cared a lot in gethsemane, sweated blood.
    cared too much?

  26. street says:

It seems to me, the poet (David) is struggling with treachery in his life — most probably political intrigue and betrayal. Recall that even his own son, Absalom, plotted to overthrow David’s rule in Jerusalem. One he cared for had evil intentions toward him.

thinking the struggle is with evil and obedience, love, to God. we know davids secret sin was revealed in his family publicly by God’s prophet and His Word. it also tells of God faithfulness to david. when david did not deal with sin in the family, being king and cheif law enforcement, david was suppose to kill his own son for rape. it spiraled out of control. thinking further david would not hand over johnathan’s son to death for the sins of his grandfather. protected by covenant. even on davids death bed he instructed his son in dealing with sins he had failed to deal with in his life. later we see his instructions where carried out. one thing about true love is dealing with sin and putting it in it proper place properly. you may ask how do you do that? by believing in the One Whom He sent.

  27. SFDBWV says:

If you all could hear me you would hear me laugh, and smile as I read this groups thoughts.

Laugh lightly and smile because in all of my years here I have not seen such a consensus of belief on any subject presented as this one.

Bubbles put it very well, it is the lack of caring that is absent in the world, not caring too much.

In part if caring for someone too much were to cause you to doubt God or your faith, then you didn’t have much faith to start with.

When I think of the last couple thousand years of men and women who gave up all the comforts of a “normal” life in order to evangelize a world alien to them driven by caring for the souls of the very people some of whom not only killed them, but cooked them and ate them.

I cannot imagine that they cared too much. Only that they gave all they had in the care of someone else.

We are to pray without ceasing; is that caring too much?

Around here we hear the term “tree hugger” often. It is a slur against people who don’t want to cut down a tree or worry about a salamander or frog over the needs of and even above other human beings.

It may be seen as a political attitude. Now I can see that along political theology one can care too much and often about the wrong things.

However I don’t think we can care too much about the needs of another person, in fact I believe it a commandment from God and Christ that we do.

Placing our own needs on God as well as the needs of another, but our care of another may just be how God wants their needs met as well as our own purpose realized.

    51 degrees and cloudy.

  28. mtman says:

This may be a poor example but in raising children some parents remove all potential hazards as the child matures to adulthood. Instead of allowing the child to fail or fall they protect the child and as a result the child never develops the ability to fully function on its own. Their protective care for the child is actually doing the child harm. Instead of clearing the road to being a good person and adult they should be preparing the child to be more self functional and deal with the hardships of life along that road.

I don’t think that is caring to much but just not wanting the child to be hurt or disappointed in any way so the parents won’t have to deal with the consequences. Possibly because they were raised the same as they are raising their child and don’t know how to deal with the hardships of life. Hence we have a renewed generation of ‘privileged’ people who do not feel accountable to anyone or anything except themselves.

It is always someone else’s fault and everyone owes them and they own nothing. I don’t think this is what Mart was looking for because these people don’t seem very Godly anyway. When you are so completely focused on yourself and your entitlement or privilege then there is no room for God to begin with.

The two do not seem to go together and hence in that vein caring enough or caring to much is alien to scripture and Jesus’ principals we were taught via scripture. The parents are teaching their children how to be self centered just like they were and there is no room for God in their lives. They are or may be very good pretend Christians but their motives are all self centered and any pretend of love of the Lord is nothing more than a tool to get them what they want.

They could care less about other people and Jesus taught well on how these types of people exist in our world. To be Godly you first have to surrender to the Lord and these types would never thing about doing that. Both thoughts are alien to each other. To lose something you first have to have something.

  29. joycemb says:

    Good day all.

Bubbles I hope you woke up with a better outlook today. God be with you this long weekend to repair, renew and strengthen you.

I’m thinking about … “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead” (Matthew 8:21-22). I’m wondering if our priorities, though well intentioned, are what Spurgeon is trying to convey in his devotional. I don’t own the updated version but the classic is fairly understandable. Jesus is not talking to a child but to an adult here, as with the psalmists of old. Just thinking..

  30. poohpity says:

Wow such extremes going from not caring at all to caring too much. There is a middle ground. When do we step back and allow the lessons that God is trying to teach happen?

A few examples I know of come from missionary work. Like for the Native American’s when the missionaries came they thought it was in their best interest to oppress them so that they would live like the missionaries thought they should live. Never listening about their culture and seeing what God had already established in their lives which the missionaries could have learned from them. Now-a-days missionaries go into a culture and develop relationships by listening and learning which seems to be very caring but they do not force their western culture down their throats(caring too much)to what the missionaries consider in their best interest. God changes hearts if we do not get in the way.

When we try and fix things for people who do they look and depend on but us not God. Love means doing what is the best interest of another and sometimes that may mean letting go and allowing Him to work in their lives but instead we try and play god to them. What we may think we know what is good for someone but God may have a different idea about what that maybe. It seems to come down to how much we trust God and His abilities.

  31. poohpity says:

Here is the body of the devotional that Mart was talking about. I know it is easier to give opinions when we have not read something so we are open to assuming and jumping to conclusions but this may help in further discussion on the subject.

Care, even though exercised upon legitimate objects, if carried to excess, has in it the nature of sin. The precept to avoid anxious care is earnestly inculcated by our Saviour, again and again; it is reiterated by the apostles; and it is one which cannot be neglected without involving transgression: for the very essence of anxious care is the imagining that we are wiser than God, and the thrusting ourselves into his place to do for him that which he has undertaken to do for us. We attempt to think of that which we fancy he will forget; we labour to take upon ourselves our weary burden, as if he were unable or unwilling to take it for us. Now this disobedience to his plain precept, this unbelief in his Word, this presumption in intruding upon his province, is all sinful. Yet more than this, anxious care often leads to acts of sin. He who cannot calmly leave his affairs in God’s hand, but will carry his own burden, is very likely to be tempted to use wrong means to help himself. This sin leads to a forsaking of God as our counsellor, and resorting instead to human wisdom. This is going to the “broken cistern” instead of to the “fountain;” a sin which was laid against Israel of old. Anxiety makes us doubt God’s lovingkindness, and thus our love to him grows cold; we feel mistrust, and thus grieve the Spirit of God, so that our prayers become hindered, our consistent example marred, and our life one of self-seeking. Thus want of confidence in God leads us to wander far from him; but if through simple faith in his promise, we cast each burden as it comes upon him, and are “careful for nothing” because he undertakes to care for us, it will keep us close to him, and strengthen us against much temptation. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee.”

  32. foreverblessed says:

Caring too much in the sense of :
    worrying too much

  33. bubbles says:

Some broken things do not need repaired but thrown away because they are useless

  34. foreverblessed says:

The devotion Mart is talking about is from May 26, the morning devotion, the one Pooh gave just above here.

it is in the sense that all our “good” traits can be just a little over the top, and not “good” anymore.

The morning devotion of May 25, goes in the same line,
    like faith becoming: presumption

    I give it here too:

May 25 Morning Devotion of Spurgeon:

    “”Forsake me not, O Lord.”

    Psalm 38:21

Frequently we pray that God would not forsake us in the hour of trial and temptation, but we too much forget that we have need to use this prayer at all times. There is no moment of our life, however holy, in which we can do without his constant upholding. Whether in light or in darkness, in communion or in temptation, we alike need the prayer, “Forsake me not, O Lord.” “Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe.” A little child, while learning to walk, always needs the nurse’s aid. The ship left by the pilot drifts at once from her course. We cannot do without continued aid from above; let it then be your prayer today, “Forsake me not. Father, forsake not thy child, lest he fall by the hand of the enemy. Shepherd, forsake not thy lamb, lest he wander from the safety of the fold. Great Husbandman, forsake not thy plant, lest it wither and die. Forsake me not, O Lord,’ now; and forsake me not at any moment of my life. Forsake me not in my joys, lest they absorb my heart. Forsake me not in my sorrows, lest I murmur against thee. Forsake me not in the day of my repentance, lest I lose the hope of pardon, and fall into despair; and forsake me not in the day of my strongest faith, lest faith degenerate into presumption. Forsake me not, for without thee I am weak, but with thee I am strong. Forsake me not, for my path is dangerous, and full of snares, and I cannot do without thy guidance. The hen forsakes not her brood; do thou then evermore cover me with thy feathers, and permit me under thy wings to find my refuge. Be not far from me, O Lord, for trouble is near, for there is none to help.’ Leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation!'”

“O ever in our cleansed breast,

    Bid thine Eternal Spirit rest;

And make our secret soul to be

A temple pure and worthy thee.””

  35. poohpity says:

bubbles, things that are broken and can not be repaired are far different that people who are broken that is what God specializes in putting the pieces back together so that they may be in relationships with God and others. God’s work seems to be all about relationships so when we cut ourselves off from people we miss a wholly understanding of God’s intent.

  36. poohpity says:

Our Daily Bread is very good for today as always.

  37. street says:

    Matthew 17:20New Living Translation

20 “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”

  38. street says:

“O ever in our cleansed breast,

    Bid thine Eternal Spirit rest;

And make our secret soul to be

A temple pure and worthy thee.””

thinking of the last line my heart changed it to.
” a temple pure and holy unto thee.”

i am painfully aware of the phrases,” we are are only unworthy servants.”

    Luke 17:9-11

9 He does not thank the slave because he did the things which were commanded, does he? 10 So you too, when you do all the things which are commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done.’”

when our worries for others begin to feed on our trust in God—what we assume to be our best intentions—are not?

could begin to feed be translated, begin to undermine our trust in God? i find it very interesting eating and food are mentioned many times by Jesus. He talked about things that would satisfy and things that would not. He talked about things entering the body and shorty removed from the body, in other words they do not make you unclean.
what are we looking at that would undermine our faith and trust in God? paul talked about nakedness famine war pestilence yet we are distracted by needs and and concerns. are not these to be bought to Him who is faithful? did Jesus say your Father in heaven knows your needs and concerns? is He a good Father or a bad Father? i wonder if coming to Him is the same as trusting in Him? or just as important. thinking He is a good place to deposit our concerns and burdens. going out with renewed hope faith and assurance of His love? life giver, life changer. separation from the culture of the world while remaining in the world, but abiding in His presents. thinking every moment is overflowing with grace, knowing i deserved a very hot environment.

I care more that God is with me and them on my journey through life and that He sees how we support each other and sees the efforts we put into making our relationships work in a world where it is difficult to make relationships work.

I care that He sustains me in moments of weakness and promises to go on sustaining me until His work is accomplished on this earth.

One more step along the world I go,
    one more step along the world I go;
from the old things to the new
keep me travelling along with you:
    And its from the old I travel to the new;
keep me travelling along with you.

Round the corner of the world I turn,
    more and more about the world I learn;
all the new things that I see
you’ll be looking at along with me:

As I travel through the bad and good,
    keep me travelling the way I should;
where I see no way to go
you’ll me telling me the way, I know:

Give me courage when the world is rough,
    keep me loving through the world is tough;
leap and sing in all I do,
keep me travelling along with you:

You are older than the world can be,
    you are younger than the life in me;
    every old and ever new,
keep me travelling along with you:

  42. jeff1 says:

The world changes, I change and people change but God remains consistent in an ever changing world.

His word is timeless, Jesus is timeless but my days are numbered on this earth as was His because it was part of God’s plan.

There is a green hill far away,
    Without a city wall,
Where the dear Lord was crucified,
Who died to save us all.

We may not know, we cannot tell,
What pains He had to bear,
But we believe it was for us
    He hung and suffered there.

There was no other good enough
To pay the price of sin.
He only could unlock the gate
Of heav’n and let us in.

Oh, dearly, dearly has He loved!
And we must love Him too,
And trust in His redeeming blood,
And try His works to do.

  44. bubbles says:

Maybe I cannot understand this because I do not care enough for others? One can worry about another but worrying and caring for them will not compel them to do what they need to do. That is when I must take care of my own self and back off.

  45. foreverblessed says:

Bubbles, you are so right, worrying or caring about another does not compel them to change.
This is also a big thing for me that I have to learn!

I pray for another, I care for another, and nothing see.s to change. Then I start to worry, I pray more, thinking God is not listening to me, or so it seems.
When I am really honest, deep down I side me I think it is my responsibility that a dear one turns to God.

    It is NOT my responsibility!
    It is God’s.
He is the one in charge.
My eyes should be on Him.
I should pray, and then in total trust that He acts on my prayers, start praising Him. Even if I do not see a change yet.

I think Spurgeon and Mart are talking about that,
Pray and leave it in God’s hands.

So easy to say, so difficult to do!

  46. foreverblessed says:

I have felt what it is like when christians think it is their responsibility, and not God’s. With the best intentions:
When I moved to this area, in the south of the Netherlands, and I was recovering, and in an healing process, Jesus was very very close to me, even though I did not go to a church.
I met a lady in my town, a christian, she introduced me to a women’s ministry. That was very good, but, she would stand alongside me and explain everything to me.
While the By Spirit talked to me personally. She was such a hindrance, talking talking! I tried to tell her that, but she could not believe that God spoke to me personally!

I should remember that, when I meet other people!
Do not hinder the work of the Holy Spirit!

Trust that God Himself will lead the other.
Let me put His eyes on Jesus!

  47. street says:

caring is normal for all people. the difference comes from what one cares for. personal preference. we understand how pride and self centered work. we are familiar with this. caring outside the box is much harder. a devotion today mentioned a hard wait. many times we are to watch and wait. knowing what to say and do and when to do it is a lot harder. david moved the ark with a cart and it was met with disaster because they did not obey. Jesus said anytime is good for you, God does not live and do things like us. the scriptures say He sets things by His own authority. caring gets convoluted/polluted from sources from outside of God. adding a word or taking one way sound familiar? then enters in grace and truth in Christ Jesus. everything is new.

  48. joycemb says:

That old legalistic thinking tries to upend me at times too. But I’m learning that God brings it to the surface so He can kill it. Our freedom in Christ depends on it! Blessed Ascension day to all! I’m so thrilled to know Jesus is freed from His earthly body and waits for us to be truly free also! While there are good things we enjoy in the body the best is yet to come, HALLELUJAH!

  49. jeff1 says:

I have told God many times that I do not care about my enemies but He insists on having His way and if God insists on having His way then He has good reasons.

I cannot love my enemies the way I love Godly people but I can cast my burden over to Him and by doing so I am showing God I have trust in His way of dealing with people I do not understand and He will sustain me and remove the burden of hate from me so that I can have peace of mind in myself and hope for a better world to come where His authority will prevail and ungodliness shall be no more.

You are correct Bubbles you cannot compel other to do what they need to do because they do not share your desires or beliefs and that is why you must leave them with God and hope and pray that they will change.

Patience is required in waiting and longsuffering too and sometimes you will witness change but often you will not but remember who you are striving for and it will help you to focus on Christ rather than on the difficulties you face.

  50. joycemb says:

Caring too much can break your heart. But Jesus can fix it.

not by power, not by might, but by my Spirit says the LORD.

    consuming fire comes to mind.

removing all evil darkness and corruption and making us what we really want to be, because He made us alive in Christ Jesus.

  53. street says:

i wonder if it is our bodies that are broken like our Lord’s and poured out. sharing in His suffering and doing the things that paul spoke of filling up in Christ that which was missing, i know this if very difficult to work through, but the Spirit does bring it to our attention. it is our hearts/soul that God conforms to His image for His Glory that is worked out in our present bodies, soon to be incorruptible.

  54. bubbles says:

There is a family member who will not take care of health challenges. The refusae to eat healthy, reduse to exercise, refuse to do anything they know to help themselves. Bad things have happened to this one. They have chosen to not do what the physicians tell them. I used to carry the list of medications and dosages with me everywherew, just in case. I used to keep up with all the medications, what they were used for, etc. Then it came to me I caree more than this person did. I was worrying about health that was not mone to worry about. I had to stop caring as deeply. I washed my hands of the situation and I had peace.

  55. jeff1 says:

Caring too much caused my meltdown and I admit I am frightened of it happening again as it was not a nice place to be.

I have to balance my caring for others or I could become very ill and then I can care for no one.

God requires I take care of myself in order to take care of others or we all fall down.

I am not good at recognising when I am overdoing things so I have family looking out for me and they make me look after myself so that I am balancing taking care of myself with taking care of others.

Caring too much will eventually stress you and you will have to reassess your life or go into meltdown which tells me that God does not intend for us to overload ourselves.

I struggle with believing I can do more than I can with devastating consequences for my family members.

I have to consider the effect on others when I fail to recognise trigger points that effect my well being.

  56. street says:

thinking about a family member who will not eat right or take their medication and Jesus talking about food He eats that we know nothing about. John 4:31-34

1 Kings 19:7 The angel of God came back, shook him awake again, and said, “Get up and eat some more—you’ve got a long journey ahead of you.”

  57. joycemb says:

    Viv that’s good insight!

  58. poohpity says:

It would seem according to this topic caring for the well being of another we do not give advice to what they should or should not do but “listen” to what they are going through. The advice we give may be contrary to what they really need, it is telling them what we think they need. Caring for others seems to more of an exercise in listening and comforting than in telling.

Also when someone is struggling another mistake that is often made is quoting scripture we may think applies to their situation in attempt to fix but then again because we are not sure of the depth of the problems that can just show we would rather they be quite than tell us what is troubling them. Listening again is the best medicine and maybe a hug of comfort.

I think often people forget if that were me how would I like to be treated. Some good questions I ask myself if that were me how would I like to be comforted or what would make me feel better? The Golden Rule is really good to reflect on. What would benefit the other person and show that I really care? Asking how can I help or what can I do for you?

  59. street says:

thinking about the dad who gave his son an inheritance early. yes the son moved away and we are told the father looked for him every day. he did not look for him to tell him what he did wrong, but to welcome him back as a son. we do know now the Father payed a very high price to receive this son back. are we looking out for our brothers to come home too? to care and to know what our Father’s intent is. thinking those who love much have been forgiven much. screwed as a snake and innocent as a dove.

  61. SFDBWV says:

Today is Memorial Day or as we used to call it when I was a kid, Decoration Day.

In small town America, especially here in our small town it is something of a homecoming as people from all over come to decorate the graves of their past family members.

I set up a lawn table and chairs along with some benches that was donated to the town at the cemetery and my wife Glenna along with a few others stay at the cemetery all day from Friday thru Sunday in order to collect donations toward the upkeep and care of the graveyard.

We have a sign in book and pass out some small promotional trinkets so as to make the entire experience more “fun”.

People appreciate the care we give their loved ones and enjoy visiting with each other.

We usually take in enough donations to pay for about half of what it costs to keep things up.

Memorial Day is a holiday about caring enough to remember, not just past military sacrifices, but all those who are gone from us, but not forgotten.

Caring is how things get done, don’t let the idea that you can care too much erode the responsibility to care for others from your heart. If you think you can care too much, what do you replace it with? My guess is when a person cares too much about themselves is when all of their problems begin.

60 degrees and wet in the mountains.

  62. jeff1 says:

There is nothing that takes my mind of my own cares then listening to the difficulties of others because there is always someone worse of in this world.

How often God has taught me this when I have been self willed instead of God willing.

Whatever God allows in my life He will teach me lessons from it and I can be sure that it is for my good whether I see it or not.

I have found in life that I can not always trust my own judgements but God has taught me that I can trust in His.

I’ve come too far to look back again, there is nothing behind me
All the treasures I used to love have all faded from view
There’s a new day ahead for me, all my heartaches are over
For I left them at Calvary where my new life began

I’ve come too far to look back
My feet have walked through the valley
I’ve climbed mountains, crossed rivers, desert places I’ve known
But I’m nearing the home shore, the redeemed are rejoicing
Heavens Angels are singing, I’ve come too far to look back

Look around there’s no happiness, there’s no reason for living
Life will give you a broken dream, full of sorrow and fear
Turn around don’t look back again, face the new day before you
Place your heartache in Jesus hand, He can mend broken dreams

But I’m nearing the home shore, the redeemed are rejoicing
Heaven’s Angels are singing, I’ve come too far to look back

  63. poohpity says:

I do not know if it is a fair comparison between caring too much and loving too much. Sometimes love has to do tough things in the best interest of another and on the other hand caring too much often prevents one from taking some tough steps in the best interest of the one loved.

Caring too much can be self seeking and self glorification not allowing God to work in a person’s life making the choice of doing everything for another even telling them how to think at times.

  64. poohpity says:

Can you imagine if God cared too much for Adam and Eve rather than having them leave the garden let them remain. Eventually they would have eaten from the Tree of Life and they would have been eternally stuck in a fallen state but He put them out of the garden in love and protection.(Genesis 3:22-23)

  65. joycemb says:

Thinking of you Steve and Mtmn today who have seen too much death and more up close and personal than those of us who did not serve in the military. May your day be blessed much more than the sadness you carry for others.

  66. jeff1 says:

I do not believe you can stop God from working in a person’s life whether they have been over protected or not because where there is brokenness there too is God.

God cares more than human nature can understand Jesus is proof of that so God will find away when there seems to be no way.

  67. bubbles says:

I see parents preparing the road for the child rather than the child for the road.
This inevitably harms the child in the long run; good intentions, however. This “loving” or “caring” falls under caring too much in my thinking.

  68. street says:

    caring too much…?
caring apart from grace and truth might not be caring at all.
faith is a big part of it.

  69. jeff1 says:

Please pray sleep will come tonight. Thank you.

  71. poohpity says:

I do not think God cares too much or too little but just enough to help us grow and develop in our faith and trust in Him.

  72. poohpity says:

But we can take matter’s into our own hands and not wait for God to work.

  73. joycemb says:

Yet God will and can still make His plans come to fulfillment even when we try to interfere, remember Peters response when Jesus was arrested? Some could say that Peter did what he did (attacking the guard) because he cared too much, yet he ended up denying the one he tried to protect. In the end it’s all good. Praise God who knows how to right an all to human response to evil.

  74. poohpity says:

    Yes several times Peter cared too much which this was Jesus’s reply;

21From that time on Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and that He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. 22Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. “Far be it from You, Lord! he said. “This shall never happen to You!” 23But Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me. For you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”

So me thinks as Mart put it our intentions may be good but we never know what God is doing in a person’s life and we can be a road block to His work by caring too much.

  75. joycemb says:

You know what’s really amusing though is the lengths God will go to to get His will accomplished. I once told an admitted co-dependent that they were getting in Gods way. Their response was “I know but it’s too ingrained in me to change”. I was amazed as I watched God throw this person into confusion and literally without knowing where they were driving to bring their loved one to the perfect place for recovery and healing. If they had known where the destination was before hand it never would have happened. God overrides our best intentions for His best intentions. I’ve learned a lot about Gods love through this experience. The addict is recovering physically, emotionally and spiritually! Praise God!!! The codependent hasn’t changed and is struggling a bit watching the recovery, but I know what God can do so I’m not worried.

  76. joycemb says:

The recovering addict has learned through the witness of God in the life of the co dependent that God is the answer and is leaning on Him now for sustenance and help. God’s amazingly involved in everyone’s life, at all times and in all places, even in our disobedience and wanderings.

  77. street says:

    caring too much
    can caring be a search?
thinking we are to seek God or search for Him. seek ask knock
we also have heard He is unsearchable.
in other words you will never be able to fined His beginning or end, Jesus, or put Him in a box.

“We all know how silver seams the rocks, we’ve seen the stuff from which gold is refined, We’re aware of how iron is dug out of the ground and copper is smelted from rock. Miners penetrate the earth’s darkness, searching the roots of the mountains for ore, digging away in the suffocating darkness. Far from civilization, far from the traffic, they cut a shaft, and are lowered into it by ropes. Earth’s surface is a field for grain, but its depths are a forge Firing sapphires from stones and chiseling gold from rocks. Vultures are blind to its riches, hawks never lay eyes on it. Wild animals are oblivious to it, lions don’t know it’s there. Miners hammer away at the rock, they uproot the mountains. They tunnel through the rock and find all kinds of beautiful gems. They discover the origins of rivers, and bring earth’s secrets to light.

happy digging! the Master is at work, cease from yours.

  78. jeff1 says:

I would go as far as saying especially in our disobedience and wanderings because God knows what we are made of.

Lord, You are the Potter and I am the clay.
Mould me and make me, have Thine own way.

    Lord, I need Your Spirit, Lord, I need Your grace;
Help me to run this Christian race.

You are the Potter, I am the clay.
Mould me and make me, have Thine own way.

You are the Potter, I am the clay.
Mould me and make me, have Thine own way.

Lord, I give my life, I give my all to You,
To be a willing vessel, to use me through and through.

    Lord, I need Your Spirit, Lord, I need Your grace;
Help me to run this Christian race.

    Have Your way,
    Have Your way in me.

    Have Your way,
    Have Your way in me.

  79. joycemb says:

I’m a recovering fundamental Christian myself so it’s been fun watching God get out of the boxes I’d placed Him in through the years. Boxes I’d been taught were the best and safest boxes if I wanted to feel safe and secure within a certain group. It was fine until God got out, oops! Yes! God is so much more outside the box!

  80. street says:

we are all recovering from man made religion. man made thinking and failings, not so with the Christian, a work of God hidden from the world in Christ Jesus.

maru i remember your comment of being taken aback by a five point calvinist statement by a devotional recently.
i remember reading some spurgeon comment about doing away with many other things held dear by christians. i guess the idea is not let anything, even our thinking, come between us and God. one of the things i found fascinating was when spurgeon said to do away with repentance, that took me aback. i think what he was saying was to remove the insincere formalism or empty hearts repentance. worship in Spirit and Truth. the impossible begins with God.

  82. SFDBWV says:

Though it has been a very busy holiday period I have managed to set down and follow the thread of posts here on BTA.

Interesting as most everyone (not all) disagreed with a concept of caring too much, it didn’t take too long for the mood to morph into a way of trying to agree that you can.

Sorry folks I remain as I began. Unhealthy conditions such as compulsive or obsessive behavior notwithstanding, I do not think you can care too much.

I am disappointed that Memorial Day came and went with such little mention of it, but one of the things we here in America did this weekend was place cemetery flags on our military veterans graves.

I quote General George S. Patton “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.”

So you would have everyone believe these men cared too much.

God became flesh, suffered and died and gave up more than perhaps you can possibly ever imagine for your salvation.

So you would have everyone believe He cared too much.

Well everyone is entitled to their own opinions, mine just doesn’t bend or sway like windblown grass.

50 degrees and still wet in the mountains.

    Steve

  83. saled says:

Steve. your statement about the windblown grass reminds me of an old Russian proverb: the wind breaks the trees but only bends the grass. Some of us are trees and some of us are grass.

I think the key words to understanding Mart’s post are “. . . when our worries for others begin to feed on our trust in God.” An example of this is when my husband’s grandmother was dying, her adult daughter lived with her. As the baby of the family, this aunt was so disappointed in God that He would let her mother be taken from her. She was a long time coming back to her faith. So very human.

And others here have mentioned those times when our ‘care’ actually holds our loved one back instead of helping them. Someone mentioned preparing your child for the road instead of trying to pave the road for the child.

It is so hard to realize that we are not in control over what happens to our loved ones. As in all things, there is a balance there.

  84. jeff1 says:

It takes a lifetime to realize that we are not in control of our own lives let alone our loved ones.

It seems that we allow our humanness to affect our judgements whether we are believers or not.

I can be much more objective when it comes to another’s loved one then when it comes to my own hence why it is best to allow God to work then try to intervene.

Personally because of my marriage breakup I find that my children will listen to others words of wisdom rather than listen to me so I don’t have an option to control my children’s lives.

I have a tendency to believe that everyone has to learn from their own mistakes because it is the only way to learn as God sees us as individuals each with their own different weaknesses.

I don’t know what is best for another anymore than they know what is best for me so caring to me is about offering a shoulder to cry on or offering some practical support that might make their circumstances easier.

  85. poohpity says:

Once a little boy was playing outdoors and found a fascinating caterpillar. He carefully picked it up and took it home to show his mother. He asked his mother if he could keep it, and she said he could if he would take good care of it.

The little boy got a large jar from his mother and put plants to eat, and a stick to climb on, in the jar. Every day he watched the caterpillar and brought it new plants to eat.

One day the caterpillar climbed up the stick and started acting strangely. The boy worriedly called his mother who came and understood that the caterpillar was creating a cocoon. The mother explained to the boy how the caterpillar was going to go through a metamorphosis and become a butterfly.

The little boy was thrilled to hear about the changes his caterpillar would go through. He watched every day, waiting for the butterfly to emerge. One day it happened, a small hole appeared in the cocoon and the butterfly started to struggle to come out.

At first the boy was excited, but soon he became concerned. The butterfly was struggling so hard to get out! It looked like it couldn’t break free! It looked desperate! It looked like it was making no progress!

The boy was so concerned he decided to help. He ran to get scissors, and then walked back (because he had learned not to run with scissors…). He snipped the cocoon to make the hole bigger and the butterfly quickly emerged!

As the butterfly came out the boy was surprised. It had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. He continued to watch the butterfly expecting that, at any moment, the wings would dry out, enlarge and expand to support the swollen body. He knew that in time the body would shrink and the butterfly’s wings would expand.

    But neither happened!

The butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings.

It never was able to fly…

As the boy tried to figure out what had gone wrong his mother took him to talk to a scientist from a local college. He learned that the butterfly was SUPPOSED to struggle. In fact, the butterfly’s struggle to push its way through the tiny opening of the cocoon pushes the fluid out of its body and into its wings. Without the struggle, the butterfly would never, ever fly. The boy’s good intentions hurt the butterfly.

As you go through life, keep in mind that struggling is an important part of any growth experience. In fact, it is the struggle that causes you to develop your ability to fly.

It could be that many did things for Memorial day in the respect and honor of those who sacrificed all they had, their life, for the freedoms many take for granted but did not share it on here.

Many do things for the Kingdom also but may not share it on here because they do not want to seem like they are boasting because those things are done out of love for their God and for others. Some are satisfied with doing things in private to receive praise from God and not man.

Dear friend Saled I bet your cemetery this weekend is adorned with the red white and blue as well as flowers of all kinds in remembrance of loved ones gone on. It is a gift to be able to care for such things as it affects so many others.

A couple years ago I was disgusted and shocked to read that Joshua Chamberlain’s Medal of Honor was found in a yard sale.

    Just kind of sad.

I know Saled I can be hard headed and un-yielding sometimes, especially about some things. I do hope you are having a nice spring day, we are as the sky has cleared for now and is that beautiful azure blue color it is so able to provide us with.

I know my brother He will carry you
And if He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders
I know my sister He will carry you
He said, “Come unto Me all who are weary, and I will give you rest”

There is no problem too big God cannot solve it

And if He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders

Steve, you are right about our cemetery. The local historical society planned and held a service including an honor guard, playing of Taps, and placing of flags, cedar swags and wreaths on each veteran’s grave. The students at my school helped make the swags and wreaths the week before and some of them took part in the ceremony. My husband and I don’t care take the cemetery anymore, but we still know and love the place, the view overlooking the lake, the luxurious expanses of creeping phlox and lily of the valley, and the eagles and fox with pups that frequent the place.

pooh, thanks for the butterfly story. There is a lot of wisdom there.

  94. foreverblessed says:

Bubbles, I am praying for you, that God may sustain you, and carry you!

    Psalm 55:22
    Some translations have it:
“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”NIV

And I believe that Spurgeon meant these cares in that way, as meaning: worries

I have trouble with casting my cares, my worries on the Lord, giving them to Jesus, and walking away relieved, “He takes care of it, it is allright”, and I go on light and happy, doing the next thing Jesus has for me.
But…. instead, I do take the task again on me, as if I am responsible for solving the problem.
It is such a process for me to leave the “care with Jesus”

If you are a caretaker of a specific person, then it goes from one “care” doing that, and giving it to Jesus, to the next “care” doing that and giving it to Jesus.
Oswald Chambers also stresses the fact that we be broken bread and poured out wine to our fellow man, if God so requires that from me.
Broken bread and poured out wine, is not something like: I will not do that for the other person, that is too strainful for me, it will be no good if I am worn out, then I can be of no value to anybody.
What if Jesus had said that? He would not have died for us?

But…… we can only do that when we have totally become One with Jesus, and that is a process too.
If we are not securely connected to Him, we can be of no use to anybody.

Only through the Life Sap of Jesus flowing through us, we can be effectful in another’s life. In other words, His Love flowing through us.
So Oswals Chambers always says, that we have our eyes on Jesus First and foremost, above having our eyes on the needs of others first and foremost.

First be connected to the Source: Jesus

  95. SFDBWV says:

#1 in the Ten Commandments is that we are to put no other gods before Him. #2 is that we are not to make any graven image of anything in heaven or earth and #3 is that we are not to bow down to them nor serve them.

If we are to place any other person or thing above God in our caring, then we are in violation of the first, second and third commandments.

Great noise has been heard here in that we are no longer under the “Law”. Our “new law” being the commandments of Jesus of Nazareth found on the pages of the New Testament.

“Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

If you care/concern puts you at risk of losing your faith, you are either void of the Holy Spirit or ignoring Him. For you are both in violation of the Law of Moses and or are not being led by the Holy Spirit in your heart, but rather by another spirit.

If you are willing to give up all of the rest of your life for another or to die outright for another you are not in conflict with the teaching of Jesus of Nazareth. In this there is no such thing as caring too much.

If in your caring for another your care turns into worship and or murmuring against God, you have a long list of other problems, not caring too much, but misplaced care, sick care, and misdirected care. In this obsession it is you whom you want served and you whom you care the most about. Seeing that you get what you want by whatever means.

As long as you bring the care of whomever it is you care about to God there is no possible way that you can “care too much”.

Again, if your care of another brings you to a place of losing your faith, you never had any faith to begin with and still are awaiting the new birth and indwelling of the Holy Spirit. You have only been a “Christian” in name only without control from the Holy Spirit in your life.

None of the Disciples could ever be accused of “caring too much” once Pentecost came none lost their faith and all lost their lives.

Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith. Meekness, temperance.”

The fruit of the Spirit is the “evidence” of the Spirit.

In such there is no such thing as caring too much.
Need I also quote 1 Corinthians 13:1-13? In such you will find no evidence of caring too much either.

    Time to move on.

  100. joycemb says:

Good day all! Wow, I overslept by 2 hours but I guess I needed it. The cool, damp weather we’re having has been hard on me. I read the posts today then read this which gives a good overview of the situations we all find ourselves in at one time or another when caring or even encountering others in need:
“Our Lord trusted no man; yet He was never suspicious, never bitter, never in despair about any man, because He put God first in trust; He trusted absolutely in what God ‘s grace could do for any man. If I put my trust in human beings first, I will end in despairing of everyone; I will become bitter, because I have insisted on man being what no man ever can be–absolutely right. Never trust anything but the grace of God in yourself or in anyone else.” Oswald Chambers

  101. foreverblessed says:

Bubbles, I am still praying for you! Hold on to God, no matter what! Like the friends of Daniel, who said, even if God does not save us out of the fire, we will still worship Him only.

Joyce, your comment was the 100th! Thanks for it.I ws greatly encouraged yesterday by all the comments, and by My Utmost too!

My utmost today asks: What are we haunted by? I must be honost, and say: all the things that have to be done in the house. Household chores, but also the maintainance of the house, outside.

But we should be haunted by God, that is what Chambers says today. He is a stern admonisher. I gave this book to a friend, and she got depressed by it. He is saying too much things like: You should be hainted by God.

He is right, none the less, but….

A more friendly approach could be: Be haunted by God, and experience how wonderful that is!

How great to wake up in the morning, and start praising God, for His goodness, for His Mercy, they are New Every Morning!

He has been around for Eternity, He knows how the ages pass, and He is in control. Jesus was so clost to Him, One with the Father, He did not do anything, unless He had seen the Father doing it. That is what I want to become like, more and more like Jesus.

Reading the chapters of John is doing me good:

    John 17:10

All I have is Yours, and all You have is mine. And glory has come to me through them

  102. jeff1 says:

Joyce, this has been my experience of trusting others. I have put my trust in human beings and they have not let me down because they were more Godly than I was myself.

I learned more about God from them than I did from many preachers.

I should not expect perfection from another human being because they are no more able to deliver than I am them but I should be able to recognise Godliness in another and get inspiration and encouragement from them.

I know a few people whom I would consider to be a constant example of Godliness on my journey and I think of them when I am struggling and get encouragement from that.

If people fail me I do not become bitter, sad, yes, if it is an intended betrayal; but I usually find that people let you down because of circumstances beyond their control rather than intention on their part.

I must learn discernment towards others because people are complex and lead complex lives so my discernment matters in dealing with others or I may become bitter if I have misjudged them.

  103. foreverblessed says:

And this line should have been in the previous comment:
Glory comes to Jesus through us! I pray that today, much glory will go from us to Him. Because we are haunted by God, because our eyes are steadfastly on Him, and not on the trouble that we face. John 17:10

Steve, thanks! I am always greatly moved when people say: Think about yourself first! That is common sense, of course, when you are not connected to God in Christ. But I want to be a christian who follows Jesus all the way! And then we are under the law of Christ!
And Jesus set some standard! John 10:11 Hebr 9:28 The verse of the day of biblegateway.
He who loves his own life will lose it. John 12:25 (by the way, we could have a great discussion on this line that Jesus spoke too: “hating your own life in this world”).

When I said: “I am Yours Jesus,” then at that time it has become Jesus’ responsibility to look after me. I do not have to worry about myself anymore, (I do, but I am learning not to everyday a bit more).
And I should rely on God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, the HS will lead me to that point. He will! at some point in time. I am on my way!

Having died to our old self, that is a process, and I do not know if there is a point that you can say: Now it is done. It is already done, but the realization has not sunk in yet (bad english, the past time of sink in)
Died to the old self, then you do not have fear anymore of anything what can happen to you.
I mean with that, that at some point the fear will be gone, after much struggle. And holding on to God.

A prayer fo all of us:
“Holy Father, protect them by the power of Your Name, the Name You gave Me..” John 17:11)

  104. joycemb says:

Viv the good news about trusting others or not is that whether people are trustworthy for the moment or not our great God is ALWAYS trustworthy and on Him we can rely on to have our best and greatest interests at heart. Jesus said he did not trust man because He knew what was in their hearts. We can have the same discernment as Jesus had if we only lean on Him for our very lives. Even the kindest most loving person in the world has been damaged by sin maybe in ways we are not aware of yet but nevertheless they are not sinless as Jesus who though dying He still lives! And is ever watching out for our good which is His good, not our skewed concepts of what is good. Believe me I’ve spent my whole life looking for the untrustworthiness in others and it can get burdensome. That’s why I’m learning to lean more on Jesus and less on my own understanding.
Just yesterday this was brought home to me sadly as someone I thought I could trust lied right to my face about something important to me. I’m sad about it but thankful my life does not depend on another’s faithfulness to me or their trustworthiness. I think this is the normal walk of a pilgrim on planet earth. Blessings to you and forever, Joyce

This world is not my home I’m just a passing through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore
Oh Lord you know I have no friend like you
If heaven’s not my home then Lord what will I do
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

I have a loving mother just over in gloryland
And I don’t expect to stop until I shake her hand
She’s waiting now for me in heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore
Oh Lord you know I have no friend like you
If heaven’s not my home Then Lord what will I do

The angels beckon me From heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

    Just over in gloryland
    We’ll live eternally
The saints on every hand are shouting victory

    Their songs of sweetest praise
    Drift back from heaven’s shore
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you
If heaven’s not my home Then Lord what will I do

  108. jeff1 says:

Thinking I would rather care too much as be oblivious to the suffering in the world.

We have had terrorist attacks in this country which meant bombs and bullets every day for 30 years until we had a peace process that put an end to it.

Now we have people in Government who have still memories of these attacks and in cases have lost their loved ones to terrorists..

At what price has peace come? In order to get a peace agreement Politicians signed an agreement that in reality the people would not accept i.e. pardons for terrorists; creating the stagnate that we are now in.

The one thing I have learned is that when someone looses their loved one to terrorism or violence they find it hard to accept that it is God’s will and therefore cannot be at peace until the perpetrator is charged and convicted.

Ironically, the terrorists who where granted pardons are now demanding from the Government that pardoned them that the soldiers whom it is now known may have illegally shot rioters should be brought to justice.

If I put my trust in God it is not through faithfulness to Him because truthfully I do not know what the word means; it is God who is faithful; it is God who gets it right; Christ died to save the world because the world needs saving; from itself because if Jesus where to uttered these words today; let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone; I would still have to walk away.

The prayer I say when I partake of Holy Communion on a Sunday of each month applies to me today, as it did yesterday, and as it will tomorrow.

    Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
    we have sinned against you
    and against our neighbour
in thought and word and deed,
    through negligence, through weakness,
    through our own deliberate fault.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent of all our sins.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
    who died for us,
forgive us all that is past
and grant that we may serve you in newness of life
To the glory of your name.
    Amen.

My failings are repetitive but God’s mercy and forgiveness is eternal so who is faithful; it is God who is faithful.

To God be the Glory because the Glory is His.

  109. poohpity says:

I don’t think not caring at all is even in the discussion. It seems to be whether what we do for someone is what we think best for them or doing what is actually for their best.

A couple of definitions for CARE are; the provision of what is necessary for the health, welfare, maintenance, and protection of someone or something. Serious attention or consideration applied to doing something correctly or to avoid damage or risk.

If one over does care it can cause damage and put them at risk. Can you imagine going to a doctor who says this treatment will hurt or cause pain but because I care too much for you and do not want you to feel pain, I am choosing not to do it. But if they care enough they will say at first this may not seem to benefit you but in the end the results will be you can function pretty much normally.

I think at times we can take something going to extremes at either end; too much or too little and forget that there is a balance. Not looking at what “we” think is in someone’s best interest which really may not be if it stops growth, learning and development.

  110. foreverblessed says:

Jeff, that is a very hard story, those who have killed themselves, now want others that have killed to be sentenced!

It reminds me of the servant who’s debt has been cancelled, and then comes across his fellow servant, and remembers that what he owns him, and then demands that back!

It is at that point that God it is Who says:
“Wait a minute: Have you not been pardoned just awhile ago? That pardon now I take back. I put you in prison, and you will sit there untill everything has been paid in full.”

It still is true that God says:
Do not fret about evil man, just see how they will end: Locked up in prison, and that could also mean in a spiriutal sense, they themselves will become bitter and entangled in all kinds of evil thoughts they can’t get out.
    Psalm 37:7-15
v 15… but their sword will pierce their own hearts, meaning
themselves will become bitter and entangled in all kinds of evil thoughts they can’t get out.
That is as if they are in a real prison, it is the prison of misery of a terrible mood all the time about other people, what they’ve done wrong, That is how they will end.
    So just wait and see.
Until they cry out of misery: Please get me out.
    Psalm 107:10-16

  111. foreverblessed says:

That is the parable of the unmerciful servant
    Matthew 18:21-35
That is how we will be treated, unless we forgive our brother from the heart! v 35
So there is nothing else than to ask God to help us forgive from the heart! We have to do that otherwise we will fall in the same trap, being held prisoner in anguish.
I know that this is true, I have a family member who has been very harsh on everybody, never said sorry, did not know what he was doing, but now he is in anguish for what others have done to him, and in bitterness. He demands a sorry from others, but he himself doesn not see what he has done. I have been praying and praying about this. How can you have a normal relation to such a person? Saying that you are sorry? While the other does not say sorry what he has done to me? That sounds so unreasonable. But I have to let go anyway. This is not something that is my responsibility. There is a work of repentance that has to be done in his heart. That is none of my business, God says, just look at his end, and I am beginning to see it now, after 20 years. And it is horrible.
I can only look at the repentance done in my own heart. And stay free from bitterness.

I was thinking about all the people that have been treated so wrongly in the way to the presidential elections, the republicans who have been lied about, and then lost their place. And the winner gets it all.
And when he won he said, lets all have peace. Without saying: I am so sorry for having treated you so badly. You may find that unfair. But just wait, time will show it.
See how the winner is already struggling with lying people, he falls into the sword he has used himself, the lying sword. Psalm 37:15

David has seen some men being like that, he must have been in many a political strife.
    Psalm 37:35
    But then David gives advice:
Consider the blameless, observe the upright!
Lets look at them, and not at the ones who make a wreck of life.

The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord
    Psal 37:39
He is their stronghold in trouble.

  112. foreverblessed says:

Pooh, you must have posted while I wrote, I did not see yours. About what you wrote, in my near surroundings there is someone who likes the song:
    I’ll take care of you,
the version of Joe Bonnamassa with Beth Hart, and she sings: I, I ‘ve GOT to take care of you
the way she sings it, it has such a drive, it sounds like an addiction.
But… as I was thinking about the wording:
God also looks at us, and things the same, maybe more in the sense of: I WANT to take care of you, do you let Me, do it?

  113. poohpity says:

Yes it is all about our trust in the Lord. Lately there has been much ado about a term that Pres Trump used covfefe, it also applies to giving things over to God and we know what comes in the end He wins, love wins.

FYI — to all you that need a lesson in Cov fefe – President Trump knew exactly what he was typing. Covfefe is a biblical term meaning ‘in the end we win’… He’s giving America a lesson in the Bible. Here’s Trump’s Tweet with translation of Cov fefe —>”Despite the constant negative press (cov fefe) ‘in the end we win'” ;)

Cov fefe’ (pronounced “cuv – fee- fae”) is an Antediluvian term for “In the end we win.” It was commonly used by the sons of Adam to rail against the evil actions of the fallen who had led man astray.

I bet he learned that from his meeting with the Pope.

  114. joycemb says:

Who’s the “we” you are talking about? I only follow Jesus, not any man, woman, leader, or garbage collector. Still laughing here, but not at you pooh.

  115. joycemb says:

I doubt he learned that from the pope.

  116. foreverblessed says:

In the end the truth will win.

  117. joycemb says:

OK let’s talk politics in the context of the blog. Can we care too much for say a good life here on earth that we are willing to promote any leader who promises to “win” for peoples “good”, even if the leader has no regard for the image of God or holiness? Time to check my inner thoughts about why I’m so easily tricked and tickled by vague promises of health, wealth, and prosperity. Is my national self getting in the way of my true life, that hidden in Christ? “Depart from me I never knew you” “You are of your father the devil”. I don’t want to hear those words.

  118. poohpity says:

Joyce glad it caused you to laugh. If you will look up the term antediluvian you might understand why I said he may have learned it from the Pope. I did not say for sure but might.

    Forever, exactly!! :-)

  119. poohpity says:

Joyce and that is the only person you need to worry about hearing those words is you.

  120. poohpity says:

Joyce you said, ““Depart from me I never knew you” “You are of your father the devil”. I don’t want to hear those words.”

  121. joycemb says:

    Probably so.

  122. joycemb says:

No Pooh, I’m not worried at all about hearing those words. Ha, you almost got me there, but for God I’d surely be lost, I need Him so much:-) And He’s always with me!

  123. poohpity says:

I wasn’t playing gotcha. I just do not see how you have the right to say if our President is not a follower of Christ. From the advisors he has surrounded himself with I would venture to say that he is since the majority of them are.

  124. joycemb says:

I guess I have as much of a right as you do to say what I think. I believe that based on his own words and actions he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing using evangelicals as covering to make himself even more rich and powerful. Time will tell.

  125. joycemb says:

The whole point of discussing politics here was to think about the topic, caring too much. Can we care too much about our political leaders so that the gospel takes second place? Is the president more important than Jesus own description of a follower in the beatitudes? Doesn’t even the president if he is a Christ follower need to be held to the same standard/example that Jesus showed us?

  126. joycemb says:

Or are we caring more about being powerfully right than being humble, gentle, foot-washing and sacrificially lovers of enemies and friends alike?

  127. foreverblessed says:

That, Joyce, is a very good question!

  129. SFDBWV says:

If you are gifted to be a writer, then you may be able to express how God is and has worked in your life and if connected to a publisher get your life experiences published.

This can be very helpful in encouraging others, especially those with similar obstacles in life to overcome.

However just as every individual is special and unique of themselves so is their need and walk with God unique and special for them.

If not careful a writer can also implant a worm perhaps without even realizing it. A worm that eats at your intellect persistently questioning. As it eats away its effect get louder and louder pushing aside other thoughts and becoming central in your mind.

I used to be a voracious reader, especially of Christian themes until I discovered I was looking for answers from others experiences and views instead of staying with what the Scripture stated and was clear about.

Admittedly there are a great many questions I have whereas why don’t I see the manifestation of so many prayers as promised from the words of Jesus.

People like to answer for God and so say sometimes “no” is an answer, but that is just not so. That is how they feel comfortable with unanswered prayer, but each persons need is unique to that person and so trying to answer for God often does more harm than good.

In dealing with unanswered prayer for another to a point where you may question God’s intent or even His care or existence isn’t as damning as one may think. It is a cry out to God for help in understanding, for patience, for strength, comfort and peace. Be assured He will provide your needs. The stretching of your faith will strengthen it.

In our cemetery are many stories. One of a young husband who was killed in WWI only after a short time of being married, his bride never marrying again keeping the memory of her husband alive all the remainder of her days.

One of a young Marine who while home on his honeymoon was shot a killed during a hunting accident. His father one of the finest men I ever knew seeing to the care of the cemetery the remainder of his life and a stellar example of citizenship and Christianity.

Just believe that God knows what He is doing even in your suffering and anguish. No it isn’t easy nor pleasant, but each time you reach your limit you are given a little more rope to keep you going…Just enough rope so as to not hang yourself with.

Be encouraged by what others may write, but keep your walk with God between you and God.

I think that is very true, Steve, each of us have different walks and I have found that writers have saved me from loosing my faith in God and in particular the poetry of ‘Helen Steiner Rice’ so if it strengthens your faith in God then that is encouragement and good for the soul to my way of thinking.

I may be a weaker follower who needs that while others may not but if it renews your faith and hope then it is a good tool to use.

Likewise there are Christians that I will look for as an example to inspire me while others may disillusion but keeping in mind that I have disillusioned myself I am not being judgemental but just wanting to be strengthened rather than falling away.

I have heard the news this morning and 7 people have been killed in London and over 48 injured and so we need God’s strengthening never more then now.

The words of this song from the late greatly talented Michael Jackson have given me peace of mind this morning.

    Heal The World

There’s a place in your heart
And I know that it is love
And this place could be much
    Brighter than tomorrow
    And if you really try
You’ll find there no need to cry
    In this place you’ll feel
    There’s no hurt no sorrow

There are ways to get there
If you care enough for the living
    Make a little space
    Make a better place

    Heal the world
    Make it a better place
    For you and for me
    And the entire human race
    There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
    Make it a better place
    For you and for me

If you want to know why
    There’s love that cannot lie
    Love is strong
It only cares of joyful giving
If we try we shall see
In this bliss we cannot feel
    Fear or dread
We stop existing and start living

    The it feels that always
    Love’s enough for us growing
    So make a better world
    Make a better place

    Heal the world
    Make it a better place
    For you and for me
    And the entire human strength
    There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me

And the dream we where conceived in
    Will reveal a joyful face
And the world we once believed in
    Will shine again in grace
Then why do we keep strangling life
Wound this earth, crucify its soul
    Though it’s plain to see
    This world is heavenly
    By God’s glow

    We could fly so high
    Let our spirits never die
In my heart I feel you are all my brothers
Create a world with no fear
    Together we cry happy tears
See the nations turn their swords into plowshares

    We could really get there
If you cared enough for the living
    Make a little space
    To make a better place
    For you and for me
    And the entire human race
    There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
    Heal the world
    Make a better place
    for you and for me
    And the entire human race
    There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me

    Heal the world
    Make it a better place
    For you and for me
    And the entire human race
    There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me

    There are people dying
If you care enough for the living

Thank you Lord for sending the Holy Spirit to us that we may experience comfort and power that the world cannot give us.

  132. poohpity says:

Does it show care at all by telling negative things, false rumors, making assumptions and accusing people of things when we do not have a real clue about the condition of their heart? That to me is not caring at all about another person’s well being while caring too much almost has the same consequences both seem to be self motivated not motivated by what is in the best interest of another.(Phil 2:3-5)

  133. SFDBWV says:

Last evening there was uninterrupted news coverage of the events going on in London England. Yet another attack on freedom and anyone who is not an extremist Islamic follower.

In the news here in America the past week or so a mediocre comedian thought it funny to hold up an image of President Trump’s decapitated bloody head.

As condemnation began to pour out on her for her disgusting act, she immediately blamed her troubles on her victim, “Trump”. And so she became the victim.

In this morning’s news on BBC an Islamic lawyer blamed the Government of England for the problem of radicalized young Muslims in England. They becoming a victim of errant English governing.

Do I see a pattern here, yes I do.

When we see a “radical” Christian group gain negative attention we usually see it as a cult like the “Moonies” or of some sect of Mormonism where the leader has too many wives to suit the public view.

As we watch the culture of the world turn more and more evil we Christian’s know it to be a sign of the times and should know what that means.

This is only the beginning of troubles for the world and as we to try and tell people this we are quickly labeled as kooks or worse.

There is a point where God said He gave “them” over to a reprobate mind and let them have it their way. At what point do we say “ok world I can’t stop the flow of evil nor the will of God in this matter so I need to back up hunker down and look to God for our rescue.”

It isn’t that I don’t care it is that my care at some point won’t matter.

I can pray for the unsaved of this world right up to the “Rapture”, but there are going to be unsaved in the world no matter what.

Pentecost came and there is an hour when the Holy Spirit will depart from the earth together with us, it may be known as the “Great and Terrible Day of the Lord”

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem.

    Steve

Luke 6:45 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

A Tree Is Known by Its Fruit
Matthew 1233 n“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, ofor the tree is known by its fruit. 34 pYou brood of vipers! How can you speak good, qwhen you are evil? rFor out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 rThe good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. 36 I tell you, son the day of judgment tpeople will give account for uevery careless word they speak, 37 for vby your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

  136. jeff1 says:

When I stay focused on how awesome God is the terror of this world cannot disturb my rest in Jesus Christ because it is finished in Him and it is in Him I have my being.

I can trust that in His time God will reveal Himself to the world and reclaim the earth for His Kingdom when terror and hatred shall have no more dominion.

    There is coming a day,
    When no heartaches shall come,
No more clouds in the sky,
No more tears to dim the eye,
    All is peace forever more,
    On that happy golden shore,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
    The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

    There’ll be no sorrow there,
    No more burdens to bear,
    No more sickness, no pain,
    No more parting over there;
    And forever I will be,
With the One who died for me,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
    The One who saved me by His grace;

  137. street says:

Doesn’t even the president if he is a Christ follower need to be held to the same standard/example that Jesus showed us?

sure, there’s just one little problem, i am not that standard and i fail at it continuously, therefor Grace!
it’s very difficult to stay out of the seat of judgement even though we need to make judgments even to get through the day, as well as the night. loving and caring for sinful man when it is not convenient and looking out, caring for those in distress is epic. you will not find a greater example than Christ. it is a Glory that will never fade because it’s from God not man. it is a Glory that meets us in the day to day drudgery by faith, in the One who loves us in the smallest details of His workmanship. a Glory that does not fade or get old, like our bodies. hidden in Christ.

  138. joycemb says:

Street I know, I did feel a little awkward as I said that. My point is whether I accept someone’s authority in my life or not their behavior whether we like it or not does come into play. When most of what I hear from someone makes me cringe my all too human response is to remove myself from the situation. There was a time before I knew Christ when I also said cringe-worthy things. If I hung out with a christian I would change my behavior to avoid judgement. Situational ethics, lol. But I had a conscience praise God. So when I encountered Christ I knew I was a sinner in need of grace. And grace I received. Grace not to sin but to do good. Jesus own words, “Go and sin no more.” I agree Christ alone is the judge. And His judgement is the important one in the end. Time will tell.

  139. joycemb says:

My thinking is shaped by the following passage:

1 John 3:4-10New International Version (NIV)

4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.

  140. jeff1 says:

We all fall short of God’s glory which is what puts us equal at the foot of the cross and servants of Christ.

Jesus came to save the world and the world needs redemption so until the job is done we remain servants of the Master.

Do not allow comparisons do derail you from your purpose here on earth to serve Christ whatever the cost.

  141. street says:

We all fall short of God’s glory which is what puts us equal at the foot of the cross and servants of Christ.

Jesus came to save the world and the world needs redemption so until the job is done we remain servants of the Master.

thinking about the foot of the cross, and seated with Christ in Heaven. Ephesians 2:6. i have to admit i don’t “feel” like i am seated yet, but it is there to think about. yes it is seated pass tense, already happen. thinking about this glory and excellence in Christ in Peter 2:1-4…….He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the “divine nature”, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

  142. joycemb says:

Good news Viv! You are a friend, not a servant!

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:15NIV

  143. jeff1 says:

Yes, Jesus sees us as friends, saved for a purpose and that purpose is to do continue serving on this earth as He did while He was here until the world knows the truth of the gospel and not man made truth’s that do not glorify God but in reality is turning many away from God.

  144. joycemb says:

Steve it makes me so sad thinking of those who will not be saved because of their rebelliousness. God is soooo good. But He gets blamed for all the evil in the world. And gets ignored by those that want to be their own god. So sad. And unnecessary.

  145. jeff1 says:

When I think of my own rebelliousness throughout the years and when I think of the many times God did not give up on me then there is always hope for others because I know He will make away because His ways are so much higher then mine and for that I am truly thankful.

    God will make a way
When there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me

    He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

By a roadway in the wilderness, He’ll lead me
And rivers in the desert I will see
Heaven and Earth will fade but His word will still remain
And He will do something new today

Oh, God will make a way
When there seems to be no way
He works in way we cannot see
He will make a way for me

    He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

By a roadway in the wilderness, He’ll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and earth will fade but His word will still remain
And He will do something new today

    Oh, God will make away
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me

    He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day

    Good Morning, BTA friends!!! :-)
I pray all is well in your lives! Wow, so much has happened since I last chatted with you during the Christmas season (sigh)! I got locked out of the BTA blog site… I remember it was at the end of December (right after Christmas) when I attempted to join in on an awesome blog topic that Mart posted… I was prompted to enter my username and password in order to log in… Well, I had forgotten both because it had been so long since I’d used them… I tried everything (at least I thought I’d tried everything), but I couldn’t get in… The log-in site for BTA would not allow me to reset my password (new password) for my current email address! It kept asking me for the old password. I finally contacted someone with BTA ministries (Mr. VanNorman) to try to get some help regarding getting back on the blogsite… Praise the Lord! Mr. VanNorman was able to help me! He reset my username and password. I missed so much while I was away (busyness + inability to log on)… Will try to read some of the old blog topics to catch up. Will write more later…

    Love to all,
    Regina

  147. joycemb says:

But it does give me hope when I think of the thief on the cross who went with Jesus on his last day on earth. Wondering if at the last minute of everyone’s life here on earth there will and does come a moment of opportunity to turn to Him and go with Him also. I would not be surprised!

  148. jeff1 says:

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh what a foretaste of
    glory divine!
Heir of salvation purchase of God, Born of His Spirit washed in His Blood.

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long
    Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight
Angels descending bring from above echoes of mercy,
    whispers of love.

This is my story this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long

This is my story this is my song
Praising my Saviour all the day long

    Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my Saviour am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

This is my story this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long

This is my story this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long

This is my story this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long

This is my story this is my song,

  150. joycemb says:

Viv His mercies are new every morning!

  151. jeff1 says:

Yes, Joyce, getting to know God has been a humbling experience because the more I understand Him, the more I know my ways are not His ways bringing me to the realization of just how merciful He is.

    Oh Lord my God
    When I in awesome wonder
    Consider all the works
    Thy hands have made
    I see the stars
    I here the rolling thunder
    Thy power throughout
    The universe displayed

    Then sings my soul
    My Saviour, God to Thee
    How great Thou art
    How great Thou art
    Then sings my soul
    My Saviour, God to Thee
    How great Thou art
    How great Thou art

    When Christ shall come
    With shouts of adulation
    And take me home
What joy shall fill my heart
    Then I shall bow
    In humble adoration
    And there proclaim My God
    How great Thou art

    Then sings my soul
    My Saviour, God to Thee
    How great Thou art
    How great Thou art
    Then sings my soul
    My Saviour, God to Thee
    How great Thou art
    How great Thou art

  152. poohpity says:

Sometimes “Caring Too Much” can protect from experiencing life rather than teaching how to live it.

  153. bubbles says:

Regina, there you are! You have been in my thoughts and am thankful you are well.

  154. joycemb says:

Good point pooh, yet we know there is Gods grace for even that. Wondering if grace extends to those who care so much they think they know better than God as the blog topic suggests?

  155. poohpity says:

Oh yes Joyce God’s grace is always present when we make such a mess of things by doing them our way. But I bet He hopes we learn from those lessons and do not repeat them as often. Like beating our heads against a wall repeatedly and hopefully starting to turn more things over to Him.

  156. joycemb says:

Just thinking pooh, what if our thinking is damaged to where we can’t stop doing what we do even though it brings up the same result? Do you think He loves us less because we don’t meet certain expectations? Do you think He frowns at us like some might who don’t have the same “problem”? How much is He like our earthly parents really?

  157. poohpity says:

No His love for us is not performance based. If we believe He is all knowing then He knows what we are thinking and what we are going to do before we do it and His love is not effected by it. He does not get disappointed as we do. Remember how He treated Peter even knowing that Peter would deny and desert Him. He told Peter that He already knew what He would do but He told Him to turn back to Him.(Luke 11:31-32)

  158. joycemb says:

I just heard this and I like it- That God cares about us because He wants to help us. So what we can do for Him is just a gift and not a burden Im thinking. Or that even when I can’t measure up to mine or others standards of what my behavior should look like He just wants to help me and not condemn me. Hmmm now that’s a new way of looking at things; thank you LORD. And thank you to prayer warriors here.

  159. street says:

Or that even when I can’t measure up to mine or others standards of what my behavior should look like He just wants to help me and not condemn me.

    Romans 8:29
    For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;

how does God go about conforming us to the image of His Son? i recommend no boxes here. just thinking.

  160. foreverblessed says:

God, conforming us to the image of His Son!
    No boxes here!
    That indeed, is so difficult!
God is leading us through the Holy Spirit.
    Each in his unique way!

Romans 14:1-23 teaches us to leave each other alone.
I am in a church where the pastor wants to be no dictator.
And I like that very much!
On Pentecost he was talking about the Kingdom of God, that God wants children, Eph 1:4-10
    Children
What a sad moment it must have been for God, when man chose his own way! Very very sad!
But what a happy day for mankind that God gave them the freedom to go on their chosen path! God was no dictator, and never wants to be! Neither should we!
So Steve, go on the path the Holy Spirit is showing you.
And may God bless you, and Matt, and Glenna.
    And all of us here!

  161. SFDBWV says:

Yes Foreverblessed (Rita) the path that Matthew, Glenna and I are on is one chosen and directed by God. I know this for many reasons and though that path is more of a struggle that a stroll, I trust God for all of us every step of our journey.

I still don’t think we can care too much for each other and hope the subject changes soon. Though at the same time I understand it is difficult for Mart to accommodate us with new and challenging subject matter.

Always remembering that Mart too is just like anyone of us, with all the same wants, needs and struggles. Saints in a human body in a world of which none of us want but have to endure as is God’s will.

    Steve

  162. SFDBWV says:

One of those oddities of our story for me is why Jesus had to leave in order for the Holy Spirt to come.

In that God is represented to us as God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, that He is omnipresent.

I wonder why it is He had to leave Earth before He could come in the essence of the Holy Spirit. As well as or as to show us that before He returns to earth again the Holy Spirit has to leave.

All Saints/believers dead and alive at that time are mysteriously one with the Holy Spirit and so when the Holy Spirit returns to heaven we both the dead and the living return with Him.

Interesting that there is a number of gentiles who are to become believers, and when that number is reached the rapture occurs.

    Numbered…

    Steve

  163. jeff1 says:

Thinking that the people I see as caring enough are those whose words express it because what many tend to overlook in life is that words are like weapons they wound and once a person’s mind has been wounded then another person cannot unwound it.

The memories that we acquire over the years are imbedded in our minds and a wrong word from someone can rub salt into the wound and the person who said them is usually oblivious to it.

There are parts of me that only God has access to because I only allow God access being that it is God who understands the wounds and soothes them while others are oblivious to their existence.

When Priscilla Presley was asked did Elvis dedicate ‘the wonder of you’ to her she said know it was to God.

    I now understand why.

When no one else can understand me
When everything I do is wrong
You give me hope and consolation
You give me strength to carry on

    And you’re always there
To lend a hand in everything I do
That’s the wonder, the wonder of you
    (Wonder of you)

And when you smile, the world is brighter
You touch my hand and I’m a king
Your kiss to me is worth a fortune
Your love for me is everything

    I guess I’ll never know
The reason why you love me like you do
That’s the wonder, the wonder of you

    I guess I’ll never know
The reasons why you love me like you do
That’s the wonder, the wonder of you

  164. poohpity says:

People can read or hear the same exact thing one will be offended and another will not be. So doesn’t it depend on where a person’s head is at when they read or hear?

  165. joycemb says:

Steve The Daily Seedbed talks today about the issue you bring up concerning the holy spirit. In a nutshell he said Jesus had to ascend so he could be within us through the holy spirit he sent. I’m thinking too that through the holy spirit Jesus is with many people rather than only having to be constrained by his physical body.

  166. joycemb says:

Pooh I think God can handle us wherever our head is at. That’s another box we put him in in deciding if we are receptive or not to God.

  167. poohpity says:

I was not talking about God I was talking about people. Has nothing to do with putting God in a box which is what people do who lack understanding and wisdom.

If we believe that God is revealed in three persons; Father, Son and the Holy Spirit then the most important thing would be that God is with us no matter the form He takes, it is still God after all.

  168. poohpity says:

The thinking that God has to “handle us”, now that is putting God in box. We are not nuisances to be handled we are valuable people to Him.

  169. joycemb says:

God has his way of getting out of the boxes we put him in :-)

  170. SFDBWV says:

Today is the anniversary of “D Day” when allied forces began the liberation of Europe from a common enemy.

Our Veterans Memorial Park lists every man and woman who served during WWII from our little town. Some never came home.

I honor these brave and courageous men and women who only day ago were remembered on Memorial Day, by never forgetting them nor their sacrifices.

My wife’s uncle flew into France on D Day in a glider along with another fellow from here. Both in the Air Born. My Uncle served under Patton and was wounded twice. My uncle was with Patton when the 7th Army raced to Bastogne to rescue the encircled American Army and so some friends from his home town.

Whether it is Veterans Day or Memorial Day or D Day I will tearfully always remember these people who gave so many in the world freedom.

    Steve

  171. jeff1 says:

In light of what you are saying Steve, I feel sad to hear from my sister, as I do not listen to the news, that on a debate on television a woman was asking why the British Government did not lift the suspects before the Manchester and London atrocities when they were aware they were inciting hatred and racism.

She added that they (the terrorists) were taking away her freedom to attend events with her family without fear of attacks yet they (Government) seemed to be more concerned for the perpetrators rights than that of the public.

It seems that peace on earth will not come through men’s efforts and that is very sad when I think of the lives lost to war and the misery it left behind.

While we remember those who have given so much let us pray that the world they gave their lives for will be one day free from the ravages of war so that future generations can enjoy the freedom that many have not.

  172. jeff1 says:

Yes, How Great Thou Art sung by Elvis is one of my favourites although I love singing gospel music because it lifts my spirits and its praising God when I am not quite sure what else to say or do.

  175. SFDBWV says:

Many of us have scars from helping people who it turned out used our kindness and especially our Christianity in order to further something in their own lives.

It is my experience that two things can come from such a life of helping others who use you. You can become jaded and hard hearted or you can find that place, that peace that says, its ok God will deal with them in His own good time and continue on being the help that others come to for.

It becomes the same when you care for someone or some cause that you have taken upon yourself. There can only be “one” God, as long as you remember that, any care you give, any love you show is always shared with His caring, His love.

You are safe then from “Caring Too Much”.

I hope Mart that you are ok.

    Steve

PS I have no idea what the pictures are meant to represent.

  176. poohpity says:

I think it depends on whether when we help someone, who do we it for, to get recognized and when we don’t become bitter then we may get scared OR because we love God and do it because of our love for Him then our scars are trophies.

We are unable to fix people like God does so does it mean we do not trust His care when we no longer trust God to work in a persons life so we worry and fret rather than looking to God?

  177. bubbles says:

My uncle was helping with me with something. I was expressing concern about someone else. He told me that the output of my concern would not change the behavior of the one causing concern. I was and am praying about this individual, but was I truly trusting God due to the heavy burden I was carrying? I don’t think so. My uncle helped me understand this better. Perhaps this is part of the “caring too much.” Our caring “too much” cannot affect and influence another in many situations. Our “caring too much” may lead us to think we can control things rather than allowing God to work. This “caring too much. . ” could I have in some way thought I could control the situation only because I cared? That is erroneous thinking.

Steve, I am not sure about the photos either. I know I cared for my dog to the point of pain. I always, don’t know if worry is the right word, “worried” about him. . was he happy, was he hungry, was he bored, did he know I loved him, was he comfortable, were his hips in working order, what if, what if, what if. . . . my own parent suffocates me with too much care. However, I am thankful.

  178. foreverblessed says:

Yes Bubbles, what a good insight!
It is not our responsibility, only God’s.
It is our responsibility to pray, and whatever else the Holy Spirit tells me. I do the job, and come back to Jesus, and come to rest!

Steve, I thought they were pictures of the book, at least, the one with the mountains.

Regina, welcome back! Good to hear from you!
May God keep you, and hold you. May you be like a little child in God’s garden, playing and enjoying Jesus’ company.

May we all be like that!

  179. foreverblessed says:

To add: I have difficulty in laying the person in God’s hands. The person I pray for. But I want too do it!

  180. joycemb says:

I’m thinking that since the photos are in b&w they are boyhood pets from Marts family. Thinking the loss of pets as someone mentioned already is a tough one to deal with, especially because they show such unconditional love to their humans. That kind of love is very hard to let go of. Could Gods love be anything less?

  181. joycemb says:

An animals love will die with them, but looking to the mountains I see a promise of an abiding love that does not fade away.

  182. joycemb says:

” I lift up my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, maker of heaven and earth”. (Scripture words from a worship song.)

  183. jeff1 says:

When I let go and let God’s power work it will but I try so hard to do it myself and it is not until I fall flat on my face that God lifts me up again.

We were on holidays’s in Spain when the children where small and we hired a car and set off on the motorway with a destination in mind.

Somewhere along the way we got lost and ended up on a
mountain road and back streets and no one could speak English so they could not help us get back on the motorway.

After four hours I started to get very upset and almost hysterical and while the children were enjoying the excitement of it and laughing that their mum was being such a wimp I was at my wits end.

I somehow managed to rationalize and started to pray desperately to God and all of a sudden without much warning my husband said to me look there’s the motorway and we were back on track again.

The same thing happened in England when we were on our way back to catch a flight and we had to leave back a hire car and I prayed about it. We were late getting the car back to the hire company but the man was able to take us a short cut and get us back for our flight on time.

I can remember when we were lost stopping with a woman who was on the street and she could not help us but begged for money my husband told me not to give her any but I felt sorry for her and gave her £10 which was quite a lot of money to me but I remember thinking if I am good to her then God will be good to me and that is just the way it happened so perhaps there is something in the saying what goes around comes around.

  184. jeff1 says:

The most amazing story of God working I heard from an 95 year old who told me that when her daughter was just a child they where at the airport and all of a sudden her daughter ran across to this nun and gave her sixpence (old currency that we had back in those days)and she went after her daughter to speak with the nun and the nun said I was praying for sixpence to use the phone and your daughter ran over to me and handed me sixpence.

God works mysteriously to us as well as knowingly but when I am like Peter I forget on whom I should be focusing on but God is always there to remind me.

  185. foreverblessed says:

thanks Joyce, for the Psalm 121:1-8
A good song to start the day with!

Thank you so much Jeff, for your stories, I really appreciate them. That of the child, isn’t that amazing, that is why Jesus said, that we should become like little children! They respond to the nodge of the Holy Spirit so easily.
I would like to be more like a little child, not even thinking about the situation, just knowing that everything IS very will.

It is well with my soul,
    it is well
    it is well
    with
    my soul

  186. bubbles says:

My mother chose to have that song sung at her funeral.

  187. Regina says:

    Good Morning, All
I pray all is well with you today, and that all will be well with you forever…

foreverblessed, thank you for the hearty, welcome back! :-)

Some of you mentioned pictures, and the fact that you don’t know what they represent, in your comments at the end of this blog… So, I looked at the pictures that Mart chose for this blog topic, and they brought this question to my mind…

Could people “care too much” about their pets?

A dear friend of mine and her family purchased a cemetery plot for their beloved dog (and perhaps dogs because they have more than one), Scruffy… And some people endure a “serious” grieving process when they lose a pet. Further, many people hope to see their pet or pets in heaven, and some people honor and take better care of their pets than they do their family members. I’ve only ever had a pet betta fish (I LOVED that fish by the way), so I don’t know what it’s like to lose a pet that’s bigger than that… My thoughts for now.

    Love to all,
    Regina

  188. street says:

“Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you.” Psa 55:22

what greater burden could we cast upon the Lord than our sin?
then we concern ourselves with our physical emotional and spiritual needs?

didn’t He rise from the dead?
lets us awaken from our sleep.

  189. joycemb says:

    Jesus wake me up. Amen

  190. jeff1 says:

    All in God’s time.

    The rainbow is God’s promise
of hope for you and me,
    And though the clouds hang
heavy and the sun we cannot see,
    We know above the dark
    clouds that fill the stormy
    sky, Hope’s rainbow will
    come shining through when
    the clouds have drifted by.

  191. bubbles says:

Hello, Regina. Yes, betta fish are excellent pets. I had one that lived 1.5 years, and when he died, I buried him in a white handkerchief. He was the best fish. I am sorry you lost yours.
As far as dogs go, my precious puppy died last month. He was my baby and best friend. He loved well and I was thankful God helped me find him. He and my other teo have been the best things in my life. The love of a dog is unique and precious. My dog was like, no BETTER, than a person. I will miss and love him for the rest of my days. The pain is intense because the love was great.

22 days ago I was told I have cancer. Please pray for me.

  192. joycemb says:

Bubbles how scary! What kind of cancer do you have? I’m so glad you shared this with us.

  193. bubbles says:

. I won’t say any more about this. I shared only to ask for you here to pray. This came out of the blue. It has been difficult to take this news. God is always good and he gives us grace and what we need. Knowing all this, I still have fear and it has to be prayed about because only God can help.

  194. Regina says:

    Good Evening, All
Hello Bubbles, Thank you for your condolences regarding my Betta fish… He died years ago, but I appreciate your sympathy all the same. And thank you for sharing with us the love that you had for your pet dogs… Your love for your pets speaks to the closeness, care and concern that some people feel for any living member of their family.

Now, I want to pray for you, Bubbles, and I want our BTA brothers/sisters to join with me in prayer for you regarding your diagnosis…
Cancer did not come from God, so it doesn’t have the right to be in your body because you’re a child of God. I liken that spiritual truth to a burglar showing up at someone’s house. He would not have permission to be on the premises, and the homeowner would be well within his rights to call the Police. In your case, JESUS is the “spiritual Police” (all authority has been given to Jesus and everything on the earth and underneath the earth has to bow at the mention of His name–all sickness, disease, etc.) and the Holy Spirit is the “spiritual Supreme Court” (He is the supernatural power that heals anything that’s broken in our bodies, our families, our lives, etc.). Now, I picture myself and our BTA brothers and sisters laying our hands on your body, creating a “virtual prayer circle.”
So, now I’m going to pray for you… Dear Lord Jesus, I come before your throne of grace on behalf of my sister, Bubbles… You said, dear Lord, that where two (or three) are gathered in Your name, agreeing about anything, You would be present. So, I pray, dear Jesus, that You will send Your healing virtue to Bubbles body right now. Isaiah 53:5 says that You were beaten so we could be whole, and You were whipped so we could be healed. So, I ask that You would touch every nerve, every cell, every muscle, every organ and every body part in and on Bubbles body and cause her entire body, from the crown of her head to the souls of her feet, to get in alignment with Your Word. I rebuke all cancer cells, in Bubbles body, in Jesus name! Cancer cells you have to bow at the name of Jesus, and I command you to GET OUT of Bubbles body by the power and authority of Jesus Christ! Thank you so much, dear Lord Jesus, for all that You’ve done and will do on Bubbles behalf, and I pray this prayer in Your name. Amen!
I also want to share some Bible verses and a song with you, Bubbles…

    2 Tim. 1:7, NKJV
[For] God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

    Phil. 4:6-8, NLT
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

“I’m Healed by the Word of God”

I am healed, by the Word of God–
I am healed, by the Word of God–

    Yes, it’s already done–
Just waiting for my change to come–

but I know I’m healed, by the Word of God–
Yes, I’m healed, by the Word of God.
    (Repeat)

I am free, by the Word of God–
I am free, by the Word of God–

    Yes, it’s already done
Just waiting for my change to come–

But I know I’m free, by the Word of God
Yes, I’m free, by the Word of God.

I highly recommend a green diet, bubbles… but if that’s to radical for you, then eat more green, leafy vegetables, and other raw, crunchy vegetables than you do meat and dairy. I’ve been a vegetarian/vegan for 5 years now, and I’ve never regretted my decision to become one.

    LOVE to all,
    Regina

  195. foreverblessed says:

Ohhh Bubbles, that is why you had such a trouble with fear!
I stand with Regina around you, and with all BTA, and pray for you.

My mother likes Psalm 116 very much, she does not understand why…
The psalmist had some trouble too, fighting anguish…

    Psalm 116:3-4
The chords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came upon met
I was overcome by trouble and sorrow

Then I called on the Name of the Lord
    “O Lord, save me!”

Bubbels, hold on to the Name of Jesus, we stand around you and we keep praying for you.

  196. jeff1 says:

Beautiful prayer Regina may Bubbles feel the warmth of your words and the power of God’s touch.

  197. poohpity says:

I also am standing in agreement with Regina’s prayer for you bubbles.

  198. poohpity says:

Our Daily Bread for today talks about singing praises to God when facing an enemy.

  199. joycemb says:

“The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life…” Proverbs 10

  200. Regina says:

    Good Morning, All

Thank you, forever, jeff1 and pooh (and all who will stand with us) for standing in agreement with me for bubbles… And I prayed from my heart, Jeff1.

bubbles, there’s an organization in the U.S. called the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and I want to give you their phone number: 888-571-2638. I remember you sharing, awhile back, that you live in another country (can’t remember where right now), but the people who work at CTCA should still be able to help you care for your body… by helping and teaching you how to do the things that you can do, and we’re trusting God to (do what you cannot do) provide your supernatural healing. Remember, to drink plenty of water… if you ask me water is *supernatural* because it helps so much to flush out the toxins in our body. Also, drink plenty of organic tea. Rooibos is a very good one. You could add a natural sweeter (honey), but it’s really good with just hot water and the tea bag. I’ll keep bringing your name before God in my prayers, friend!

    Love to all,
    Regina

  201. Regina says:

pooh, I also read the ODB devotional this morning, and it’s awesome! I recognized the exact point that you made about it, and I shared it with some friends…

  202. mtman says:

Bubbles I’ve been praying for you and will continue.

  203. phpatato says:

Bubbles, I too have been lifting you up in prayer. My husband is a cancer survivor. He was given a colon cancer diagnosis in 2000; underwent radiation, had surgery in Aug 2000 and was given a permanent stoma ostomy and then finish treatment with chemo.

Keep the faith! I will continue to remember you in my prayers as you begin your journey. He will be walking beside you every step of the way. I know this as a fact.

    xoxo

    Pat

  204. joycemb says:

    A promise from Jesus: John16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

  205. jeff1 says:

All of us live in different parts of the world in different cultures and in different religions or denominations.

Our common goal to see the peace of the world which Jesus died for.

Jesus suffered greatly to save us so that the truth of His gospel may be known to the world.

It saddens me to see that religions have taken the gospel to fit their religion rather than to reveal Christ.

My mother had a saying when she knew people where lying i.e. ‘the truth will always surface’. She would be speaking of families where two sisters were not really sisters but rather then face the shame of a critical culture they would claim to be and only local’s who knew their history were aware of the fact that they where mother and daughter.

As a young person I did not understand my mothers sayings but as the years advance I see that she was correct ‘the truth will surface’ and so it is with the gospel, in God’s time, the truth will surface and the world will be free as God intended it and I shall be free from the lies that others tell, from the lies I tell myself whether intended or in ignorance because I have a God that loves me/you/us more than I/you/we understand and Jesus is the evidence of His love which is why I seek refuge in Him when the world does not understand why I care that others should know the greatest truth ever told.

I may like so many take this truth to the grave not knowing whether other’s have come to know it but that will not stop God’s truth being revealed when it is God’s time to reveal it.

He’s got the whole world in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands.
He’s got the whole world in His hands.

He’s got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,
He’s got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,
He’s got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands.

He’s got the sun and the rain in His hands,
He’s got the moon and the stars in His hands,
He’s got the wind and the clouds in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands.

He’s got the rivers and the mountains in His hands,
He’s got the oceans and the seas in His hands,
He’s got you and He’s got me in His hands,
He’s got he whole world in His hands.

He’s got everybody here in His hands,
He’s got everybody there in His hands,
He’s got everybody everywhere in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands.

I must not forget that God is all powerful, all omniscient and all caring.

  206. poohpity says:

    Very insightful Viv!

It seems God never intended religions, those were man’s ideas for the feeling of superiority and oppression over others, but put much effort into developing relationships with us and then wanting us to have relationships with each other. It also seems that the very rules He gave were to enhance those relationships with God and others. For example if people lie then we really do not get to know the real person, it all comes down to a false front but it seems that all His laws also effect relationships in some form or another.

  207. remarutho says:

    Good Morning BTA Friends —

Have been away visiting my brother, who has little prospect of living through the year. We’ll see. Please pray for Jack. He has left faith in God far behind in his youth. Some might say that he is undeserving because of lack of faith. But, he’s my brother. Please pray for salvation and healing.

Prayers going up for you, Bubbles. May God the Holy Spirit be with you, giving you assurance and peace as you seek healing. I pray you will experience divine health in Jesus as you move into what is ahead.

    Blessings,
    Maru

9C/49F Cloudy — rain and thunderstorm forecast.

  208. SFDBWV says:

Maru We in my house will remember your brother Jack and you in Prayer.

I am one of those people who believe that just because of the disappointments life produces that when we blame God or seem to lose faith, God is big enough to understand and overlook a lot.

I trust Jack to God, because I trust God.

    Peace for you Maru.

    Steve

  209. poohpity says:

Maru, name one person who is deserving of anything we receive from God.

  210. bubbles says:

Thank all of you. I mentioned it only to ask for prayer.

  211. jeff1 says:

    remarutho post 8.37 am post

I left faith in God behind me in my life but He did not leave me because it is not God’s way.

You have faith for Jack and you can trust God to carry Him because He can and He will.

  212. joycemb says:

Faith is very important to God Viv Hebrews 11:4-6New International Version (NIV)

4 By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.

5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.”[a] For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

God does not force Himself on us, we must come to Him, although He is always available. Praying Jack’s eyes will be open to see his need of a savior.

  213. poohpity says:

Viv, I have also walked away from my faith but God never let me go either. So I understand. God’s love touches ALL people of the world, it does not depend on us.

  214. jeff1 says:

There is a mystery to God that I do not truly understand and I am not sure that it is God’s intention that I understand because He protects me from that which is beyond by understanding when it may be harmful to me.

God has always by best interest at heart regardless of my thoughts or beliefs I can trust Him with my soul.
