On Dec 23, 2006, three Michigan soldiers died when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations in Salman Pak, Iraq.
Spc. Chad J. Vollmer, 24, of Grand Rapids; Pfc. Wilson A. Algrim, 21, of Howell; and Pvt. Bobby Mejia II, of Saginaw paid the ultimate price in the service of our country.
Chad was our daughter-in-law’s dearly loved brother. On this Memorial Day his family and friends will remember once again, as they do every day, their inexpressible loss.
The experience of honoring those who have died in behalf of their country rises above national boundaries. While many today will attend parades and memorial services in veteran’s parks, the picture above shows how citizens of Israel, stand silently in the streets of Tel Aviv, on their own Memorial Day, as a two minute siren calls the whole country to remember their fallen.
If you have a family member or friend who has died or been wounded in the service of our country, please use this opportunity to honor their sacrifice.
